  1. Ah OK thanks. If I decide to do it I'm going to rig some of the heavy duty ones on gimbal mounts but I still haven't made up my mind to spring for them.....
  2. pa223 are yours like the first pic?
  3. The 25 inch shaft IS the extra long shaft. The issue would mainly depend on the range of adjustment in the bracket and how it is positioned on the transom. A plus about a longer shaft is that it often will give better steering and not let the prop come out of the water with large waves like short shaft motors often do. On the downside they need to come out of the water when you choose to use the main motor at speed or they drag in the water with a rooster tail and perhaps the prop spinning aand none of that is good for the lower unit etc.
  4. Aside from possible issues relating to salt water use, age of motor and the care given the motor,. you may wish to check the length of the shaft as many of the sailboat motors are extra long shaft and depending on your boat and kicker setup (bracket or transom installation) the motor may reside too low and be actually riding in the water and "dragging" when you have it in the maximum upward position during non-trolling times.
  5. I believe these particular models are designed for dipsy use and appear to be sturdier than the other models commonly used and which are less expensive.
  6. Might want to specify that you are talking about Finger Lakes jigging
  7. There are a few models of triple Big Jons with different pricing. I'm looking at the heavy duty diver models and I suspect that one model is perhaps older (and maybe problems with it?) as it is over $100 cheaper than the other and the other has what looks like a more solid base to each individual rod holder. Anyone with direct experience with each? The first pic is of the more expensive and perhaps more sturdy? set.
  8. Thanks Lucky... you are always an interesting read
  9. I hear you my boat is 18 ft also and I should also mention that I fish the larger Finger Lakes and they as well as Onieda in particular can be just as dangerous as Lake O under the "wrong" conditions. The space issue is a valid consideration though. I luckily have an area on my transom that a 3 gal tank fits perfectly within so it is located at the outside of the boat interior.... I also keep a 1 gal. container of gas in the boat and a small container of 2 stroke oil in the event that someone else runs out of gas or I need the gas itself myself I can hear my buddies and family members laughing right now but a number of them did also about my tire inflator kept in my vehicle until I bailed their butts out repeatedly
  10. i know this doesn't address the issue itself but I had initially considered hooking up my 4 stroke kicker to my main 60 gal. gas tank but the more I thought about it I decided to just go with a separate straight hookup in case for some reason the gas in the main tank became compromised in some way or the main tank itself or hose etc.malfunctioned in some way for safety reasons rather than pure convenience. That way if one or the other became a problem I could still get back home....call me a little paranoid but it seems that in the past anytime I have had some sort of problem out there the weather was turning bad etc. and that is when mechanical things tend to go bad....
  11. There may be a downside later on to the eating of the gobies though as they are bottom dwellers/feeders and that is where many of the environmental contaminants exist so the eventual assimilation of them maybe end up in the fish eating them. I believe they also can harbor botulism from what I have read.....always something...
  12. One of the factors that may affect things is when someone has a CHIRP depth finder because the frequency range coverage of it could include the 70 khz frequency and this could occur regardless of the transducer placement; especially on smaller boat hulls (than say an ocean liner).
  13. I don't doubt it.....I saw 37 something too but I was trying to be optimistic when I said 38
  14. WTG Rick Nice looking fish and obviously happy customers
  15. Congratulations Mark. I've fished from 21's and 24's and Prolines are good boats. The important thing is getting something you are happy with and have faith in out there The Etec motors purr like a kitten and are really good on gas compared with a lot of other motors.
  16. Water temp was 38 degrees a couple days ago Canandaigua Lake 40 degrees outside right now
  17. Good one Andy....you have a lot of company too
  18. Yep I just found out about it just as you posted. Thanks. I'll delete it.
  19. As mentioned above Hank at L and M in Port Bay would be very high on the list as well so you have some very capable options without needing to go way out of your way.
  20. By the way folks if any of you need prop work done the folks at the Prop Works here in Canandaigua are the best around and are great people to do business with.... http://thepropellerworks.com/
  21. Good luck with it either way Steve.
  22. Too bad this thread can't be sent to a responsible legislator. Obviously there is a real problem there that needs to be corrected. It is unfortunate that it seems to take threatened or activated lawsuits after injuries to get attention and correction to things like this now days.
  23. I remember getting aboard one just like that back in 87-88 (yr corrected due to typo) at Nausett Marine on Cape Cod as I looked at the all the Whaler models every year there. I think they probably had to clean up the drool after I left
