Wanted WTB Daiwa 47LC Power Handles
Sk8man replied to tj13825's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
A few years ago when I upgraded the drags in mine to carbon fiber and i was thinking about the power handles as well despite the fact that the reels have a relatively higher gear ratio already and was told that there weren't any for that particular model and that the ones for the newer models wouldn't fit either. I have the power handles on my newer reels even with the higher gear ratios like the 57 (used for coppers) and maybe you could adapt one with modifications but you would also have devise a new fastening nut as well as reshape the handle shaft hole. -
idn713 you have a PM

April is always a questionmark....way back when my buddy outdoor writer Scott Sampson took my pic while I was stream fishing first day of trout season on an unnamed stream near Seneca Lake and I was up to the top of my hip boots in snow at the edge of the stream. A few days later I was in a tee shirt in 60 plus degrees

Just an FYI - We discuss in pretty good detail about trout and salmon fishing here because they are a roaming fish and aren't particularly vulnerable like schooloing fish like walleyes, perch, crappies etc.. Tributary fishing the issue is similar and the often mentioned term is "spot burning" and it can be a legitimate concern. Usually the personal messaging (PM) componnent here is used to relay any desired information to fishing friends on here that you don't wish to go public where there is a high risk of unwanted attention to your post information.

That object brings up a question in my mind that has been there for awhile. I am wondering if many people these days actually know and recognize the SOS signal when it is displayed. Here is a pretty good example to look at: http://www.askaprepper.com/10-ways-signal-sos/

At Runnings an hour ago the 4 cartriges for the gun were over $30. while as you say Wallmart $20. You need to look closely at the Expiration date too as some of them are 2020 so only 2 years left. The dates are on the flares themselves (not the package) and need to be positioned just right n the package to see properly.

Wanted Emergency handle for old Cannon Mag 10A
Sk8man replied to Sk8man's topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Mike Sylvan - These older ones don't have a nut on the shaft where the drag knob is for the socket to go over. I think the open part slips over the shaft and then the knob is tightened down on it maybe? have to think about it a bit....maybe a nut would fit on the shaft and the other more modern one might work....Guess after seeing a couple of these probes go to the bottom on other guys boats I'm a little paranoid -

It makes a difference the length and quality of the inserts (i.e. what they are made of mine are stainless steel and factory made for my boat) and where they are placed on the gunwales. I use the 4 ft booms on my riggers with 10 lb weights without thenm flexing or wobbling etc. They need to fit deep and tight on the horizontal pins at the bottom oof the holders. My Whaler is a glass boat so that may be a difference as well.

Reviving Fish in Open Water
Sk8man replied to Char_Master's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
A few things to preliminarily consider in my view: Deep dwelling fish like lakers may require a little different treatment strategy (e.g. burping their air bladder) much of the time than steelies, browns or salmon. Something important to the process is the amount of time it takes to get a particular fish to the boat, and how far the lines are out or down (e.g.10 color cores and long coppers especially). The water temperature they come out of is also crucial especially in real hot weather when the temperature profile of the water column is extreme in variation. How or if the fish is netted comes into play as well, and in the hot summer months when the floor of the boat is like a frying pan whether or not the fish makes contact with it. These things may drastically affect the the probabilities of successfully releasing the fish regardless of the method used and needs to be considered before catching them if catch and release is intended. It is essential to minimally handle the fish and if so, do not place hands or fingers in the gill areas or hold the fish vertically. Sometimes the process takes considerably more time than the fisherman is prepared to spend in the recovery process and they either release them too soon or decide "screw it" so it is essential to make sure that adequate water gets flowing through the gills and if the boga type grip is used hold it on the lower lip so it opens the mouth and sometimes they require being held backwards going very slowly. -
Cool Don. I just opened up mine and everything was there and ready to install as soon as I get my boat out of storage. This gives me added incentive ...as if I need it Don - I'll email my comments regarding the camera but I don't use one myself. Email sent

The above info sounds best if launching from there..If launching from Sodus Point the bay is very handy as you can fish out on the lake in either a west or east direction for browns and if gets real rough you can go in the bay and fish the browns in there and it is relatively close by and sheltered for safety. Sodus Point/bbay is really too far from Oswego if it gets rough and in a small boat so your launch site is critical.

Ive used my Cannon gimbals (3 downriggers) on my Whaler for going on 16 years without any problems also with 10 lb weights. Very convenient as I take them on and off routinely for storage. They have swivel base mounts and stay attached to the riggers and I just put them back in the recessed holders and plug them into the electric sockets.

Some of this may be "luck of the draw" as well as the type of usage. I use a normal starting battery for my main motor starting. I've had my other combination deep cycly/starting battery since 2010 that I purchased from Autozone . I run 3 downriggers, A lowrance, a 9.9 Tohatsu and a 55 lb Minnkota off it. The 9.9 charges it when trolling at speed, and I charge it maybe once during the season and then fully charge it when I put it away. I have gotten 8 years out of it and it appears to be ready for this season

I have a X4D on its way right now $699 from northwoods tackle

Just a couple of considerations before the expected responses: Do you intend to trailer the boat? Will you be chartering on Lake O or just the Fingers? Sounds as though you are preliminarily shaping your possible decision (maybe unconssciously) about the Prolines. You have an opportunity for a "blank canvas" here and the advice you receive may be largely related to "personal preference" Maybe list the pros and cons of the different selections or recommendations on paper for later review and let the data speak to you having an open mind. Since it will be a charter vessel try to put youself in the customers position (comforts, ease of enjoying themselves) This may be a different concern from that of how to set up and fish from the boat. Look at whatever boat you consider in terms of whether you'll have to get NEW equipment vs. being able to rig your current stuff on it (or some of it). Having to equip a new charter boat with new stuff could nearly double your initial expenses and severely cut into your budget for the boat itself Thoroughly check out reviews on forums for your top choices e.g. hulltruth etc.

IF the dipsy rod holder and the riggers are positioned right it shouldn't be a frequent problem; especially if you set the diver to the closest rigger at 2 and keep the depth of that rigger and the diver separated. (and not running a J-plug on both)

Looks as though I have to call to get my boat out of storage Sweet!
