  1. Guess you'll have to show some restraint and self discipline Kev (for once)
  2. The thing I was surprised about is that the mercury isn't stored in the fat but in the muscle areas..... http://www.mpnnow.com/news/20180307/are-finger-lakes-fish-safe-eating
  3. Regardless of the weight considered go with either the shark shaped or the torpedo shape - all the difference inthe world. Troutman87 on LOU has the torpedo style and bikinibottom on here has the shark style both great weights.
  4. Nice display Brian.....looking forward to getting together there.
  5. Thanks Rob Always great to see good info shared on here by folks who know what they are doing
  6. Good one Brian
  7. Good to know....maybe I can use it as an excuse for when I tangle it up with leadcore and end up with short one
  8. Aaron - Here is a pic of the Wegman's stuff. Price is: $3.99 It is in the bulk candy/nut section.
  9. Good points Rob and I fully agree. I've never run coppers shorter than 200 ft.long
  10. I guess I look at the long leads a different way. If you already have hudreds of feet out away from the boat turbulence etc. a fish isn't going to be "spooked" by it and the "stealth" factor may not be the critical one at that point and may be more important with surface related things like planerboards run shallow, shallow run downriggers and toplines. I've always thought that both the coppers and leadcores may actually "attract" fish to it because of the vibrating action (different for each) in the water and a 20 ft leader following it wouldn't spook them unless they were maybe wearing virtual reality glasses or something
  11. It still could be a lamprey Mike. The very precise outer edge of the red area suggests it. They suck the heck out of them.
  12. There are no holes to patch as far as the transducers in the other one in the mounting plate you can relocate multiple transducers for optimal positioning and the holes in the plate itself are irrelevant as the screws don't penetrate into the transom itself. My boat is a multipurpose one and if I were to sell it someday (unlikely) everything on it comes off without it looking like a fishing boat thus appealing to a wider market potentially.
  13. Yes the wave (Rollers) characteristics seem to have something to do with it Bob knows what I'm talking about sometimes he resembles an electric trolling motor hanging over the front on his own boat and we've had to get him back to port .....I shouldn't laugh as it really isn't funny if you're the one it happens to. The tea cup ride at Roseland in the old days used to give me a feel for it
  14. Not much stretch in fluoro. I run a 20 ft fluoro leader on most of my coppers and leadcores. 12 lb test for the Finger Lakes and 20 lb for Lake O and seems to work out pretty good.
  15. Been on for 15 years since I bought the boat new and no problems detected But the plate is also screwed in with the 2 screws which are also sealed
  16. Geez Paul you'll be all out of equipment for the derby
  17. The advantage to the one from Cabelas is that if you decide to sell your boat etc. you can take the plate off with your (multiple) transducers attached and seal the two little holes in the transom and touchup with a little matching gel coat and then transfer the plate with everything already mounted to the new boat. I believe the epoxy method is permanent.
  18. https://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Transducer-Mounting-Plates/701430.uts?slotId=0 Two screws one at each end sealed and seal the plate with 3m 4200 seals but not permanent in case you want to remove
  19. From what I understand there are multiple origins of sea sickness or ways in which it can develop including everything from the little stones in the inner ear being misaligned or "jiggled", loss of the view of the horizon, the up and down or back and forth movement of the boat in waves, an empty stomach or eating a large meal right before venturing out on the water. It suggests that the stomach, inner ear and brain may be involved in an interrelated way so different things may work depending on the person and specific conditions. I have never been actually sick although when younger I once felt "queasy" after a bet where I had to chug a beer on an empty stomach before7 Am after catching the first fish of the day while in the channel at Sodus.....don't think it had anything to do with my inner ear though....sure had something to do with my brain
  20. I think in Wegmans it is in the bulk or bulk candy section maybe and various forms of it can be found in most natural food places. The capsules can be found in most vitamin sections in stores. The stuff you chew is like candy and has sugar added and once chewed it is strongly spicey (kinda hot) but it settles your stomach. I think the capsules work too but not as immediately.
  21. Aaron - Taking multiple doses of Dramamine can mess you up and can be dangerous. The reason I suggested ginger or ginger root is that it is a natural substance and usually works well for most folks. I have seen it work out on the ocean in 6-8 footers on charters and on Lake O as well and for kids and elderly on whale watches for example. Maybe the combination of the wrist band approach and the ginger is something to try. At least to my knowledge they don't have the potential side effects the other stuff may have.
  22. Both Bonine and Dramamine can cause drowsiness and you do have to consider their interaction with other medications you may be taking and it is possible to overdose on them if taken in other than the prescribed dosages according to the literature on them.
  23. Get some ginger. Take it a half hour before going on the water. The stuff you chew that is mixed with sugar works better than the capsules. Ginger tea also works for some folks.
  24. Andy if it were me I'd go with wallyandre's advice as he knows more about these units thann many of the techs at Lowrance.
