  1. Congrats Aaron....plenty of room now for a bigger cooler for the monsters
  2. I never let my boards release but I have the TX 44's and the Walleye boards.. My releases are tightened as far as I can tension wise (without unduly stressing the plastic so they break) and I insert the braid as far back in the grip as I can and sometimes I even wrap the braid a couple times around the release if run in rough water. When bringing in the fish I try to keep the pressure constant on the fish and take the board off the line when it reaches the boat. If the board dives I point the rod directly at it downward without giving slack and reel and it comes in.
  3. You're welcome
  4. Any better?
  5. Wow! Your report is identical to our experience on Sunday including the lamprey stuck to the downrigger weight. One of the LOU members and I started from the same spot at the north end and trolled to Kashong up the west side with 2 riggers with sliders, a 300 copper a 250 copper, and two dipseys ....nothing.Marked very little other than a few small bait pods up high and a very few fish at about 40-60 ft. over whatever. Trolled across to Sampson....nothing... then trolled back to the high banks and one huge hit on one of the three Seth Greens we had out just as we were quitting and as soon as the rod was picked up...gone. Weeds everywhere and very frustrating. The sewage mess you noted was probably the 5,000 gallons of sewage that ended up in the lake at the north end from the treatment plant there. That dark sludge is also out in the area near Willard-Lodi by the way and evidently a result of the 35,000 gallon sewage spill down the Keuka Outlet that was recently reported. It was the worst shape I've seen the lake in my lifetime and very discouraging. The lamprey by the way was about 1 1/2 to 2 ft long and he escaped my fillet knife by a millisecond or otherwise he would have been two hallves of one.

Just an unsolicited comment but I know Paul and I know this boat and he takes immaculate care of his possessions and I have bought items from him and know him to be fair and honest. This boat is a truely superb fishing machine. I have personally seen it in action andd whoever buys it will be a VERY "happy camper"
  7. Yeah you've got that right....I looked around to make sure he didn't have any cement blocks handy and I hid his ropes just in case. Sure was a lesson all the way around. My cable on mine is secured by being wrapped around the spool acouple times BEFORE crimping....not sure how this was fastened to the spool or if it truly was I do feel bad about it though.... I was just a poor sap trying to catch a fish when the unthinkable happened.... Oh.... and did I mention that 13 is my unlucky number?
  8. Mike contact signalman for the story ...unreal.
  9. Danny you have a PM
  10. I think Pap was right on target. the matures at least have hardened mouths and theirfeeding response may be changing now from feeding actively to taking a swipe at the flies or spoons mainly out of aggression and I suspect sometime they may either grab the lure by a surface other than than the hook such as the leader or even the attractor itself. Years ago after being frustrated by "hit and runs" out of Oak Orchard I placed a 4 /0 single hook on a dodger squid combo and ended up catching a major king on the dodger so I'm sure it does indeed happen despite sharp hooks etc.
  11. Ol Blue - It would appear by your post that you may have assumed that someone here on LOU may have been running boards out there. How do you know this would be the first question and secondly if you knew the name pof the boat or who may have been doing something you found offensive why not approach them personally or by PM on here if it was in fact a LOU member. To cast possible blame among a whole group of fishermen who may or may not even know of the bars existance by an inflamatory post such as above deserves to be called out by LOU members so it might behoove you to think a little more about your approach before posting next time (if there is one).
  12. Might get in the way of his Presidentail bid
  13. The Federal protection of them is ridiculous...saw some on Seneca Sunday as well.
  14. Real good example Mike. Maybe I'll put that waypoint in my machine
  15. My hunch is that it might be an arch like that if the bait being marked was at the outer edge of the cone of the transducer so it was marking only the amount that came into the cone and not the whole bait pod.
  16. 17. When running sliders the slider may trigger the release of the main line if the fish is big enough but sometimes you see your rod tip bobbing with smaller ones or the initial strike of a fish and you then release it manually and the slider slides down the main line to the main lure and extends in back of it.Once in awhile especially with high speed trolling the slider leader may wrap around the main line. I carry several slide leaders made up on a pieces of styrofoam and just cut the screwed up one off and replace it rather than waste time untangling ....no big deal.
  18. Don't get too discouraged Bob. One of the things to think about around now is when you are dealing with stagng mature kings (sometimes piled up like cord wood) you forget about water temps and fish to irritate them into hitting. You spot them and keep dragging bright colored, highly active (like J plugs etc.) right through them time and time again until you get them to budge, .When they are staging their feeding response is greatly reduced and sometimes shut off.The ones being caught may have been taken by this strategy. One of the things I find interesting in many of the pics being posted is that the fish still look very silver without much black coloration.....seems odd at this point in the season not to see more coloration...wondering if major runs may run late this year....
  19. At least you beat the skunk Brian had some action. Seems to be the nature out there you're either a hero or zero much of the time....we've all been there
  20. That is a real shame Ed. I hope they fire the a hole that left the valve open.
  21. You know yuou have to wonder what was going through that little brown's mind....that spoon was as big as him......kind of like a python going after an elephant
  22. sheared a pin on the prop?
  23. I didn't want it to be loose and possibly get my line wrapped around it and if stiff makes for a better (more consistent) release
