  1. Cool fish grizzlybarry Fishstix....I hear ya on the prop wash for the steelies. I run an 8 ft slider off the downrigger in there often 2 of them and Pirates, Evil Eyes, or NK28's. That is how many of the steelies come....Mike- You've got to get loose from that job once in awhile somehow.. We retired guys are taking all your fish
  2. Good going . We spoke at the dock (3 guys in the 24 ft Penn Yan went out just ahead of you). That is one really interesting seaworthy boat....never have seen another like it.
  3. Looks more like a Splake (cross between brookie and laker)
  4. Good answer
  5. That particular spot was once one of the best Fall perch spots on Seneca Lake (before the Ramada was built) They mention $750,000. I think a 100 slip marina will cost a lot more than that. I also wonder who will run it etc. The city right now has some real close minded individuals calling the shots at the lakefront...witness the current proposal to charge launch fees at the Chamber launch and I hope it won't be the same architect that didn't have a clue regarding the design of the chamber launch (eg the curbing jutting out so it impedes launching and can ruin trailer tires etc. And then there is the elegant bathroom facilities that are basically off limits to fishermen most times and cater only to the tourists.... I think I'll hold my enthusiasm until I see details and have it come into fruition with open access to all.
  6. Nice going on the fish. I hear ya on the humidity and haze but at least the NE wind stayed down and the lake was real nice.
  7. What will you do for rod holders?
  8. Hughes 7-12-17 Signalman and my son whose birthday it was today and I launched out of Hughes at 6AM. Started fishing at about 140 ft and went NW. Fished from 6AM until 12 PM. Caught 2 steelies, a brown and a 5 lb king. Nothing touched the 300 copper and only 1 hit on Spinney fly from downrigger (snap off), nothing on 2 wire Spinney fly setups or meat rig with sawbelly. Fish came 80-100 ft over 160 on riggers spoon bite various colors medium spoons trolled 2.5-2.7 GPS. Largest steelie came on slider black and silver Evil Eye. One steelie and king released unharmed. Larger steelie and brown didn't make it and were kept. Fleas were moderate andeasy to get off. Flies were biting when we quit. Fun day and a big thanks to Signalman for taking us out. Mark caught his brthday steelie about 9 lbs.while Mike scored the brown Beautiful morning
  9. Cool looks like you lucked out but your perserverance paid off too
  10. Kinger must be smiling again Ed WTG
  11. Nice going Nick. There may be some hope for the rest off us
  12. Manufacturer name?
  13. Thanks Jim. Dean's shouldn't be too bad in the middle of the week ...weekends it may be another story. I think signalman and I may headed for Lake O on wednesday to chase down some kings and steelies. Jim the nice thiing about Dean's is the proximity to deep water so if the weather blows up and you're in a smaller boat you can readily get back in quickly. We marked a bunch of fish and right out in front of there in 60 ft of water so you may not even have to go far...
  14. Question: Are you using braid for backing and tied it directly to the spool ?
  15. It is a wonderful time of life when they are young and still open to new experriences.....and it disappears all too quickly....so it is something to be savored by all concerned and it gives meaning to being a good dad
  16. Only the ones with enhanced licenses are supposed to cross to Canada
  17. Thanks Brian. The current (and cross currents) was wicked and I think accounted for a bunch of folks having tangles yesterday. Mike - I saw where you folks grand slammed as well congrats! Congrats as well to John for his "ultimate" fish identification
  18. Might be worth sending the reel to Andy Coperhaver at Tuna's Reel Troubles. He is very good and fast turn around on the reels etc.
  19. Mike -You guys had a heck of a team there and that red cooker on the back really completed things Nice work on the fishing. I hope to get into the derby next time was too late pulling the trigger this time and thought I'd be on Lake O that day but opted to fish cayuga anyway because of the wind prediction. Thecurrents were all overthe place and the fleas were a pain but great day anyway.
  20. Nice going on the fish Nick but too bad about the eels
  21. Good chatting with you this morning Mike. Yeah that launch today was the busiest I've seen it. We also saw some nice smallies trying hard to recover from the tournament when we quit today.
  22. Thanks Brad... will do... please give my best regards to your folks too. Bob it sure wasn't the easiest day out there bud fighting that wind and fleas but at least there was action to be had (unlike some other spots we like to fish) Good that you got Liney out there today. Billy I saw your name up on the derby board yesterday in a couple places....at least you had some excitement. Cinnamon fish you had some really nice fish during that derby and the fact that you were able to connect with all those species (nearly twice) is a testament to your fishing skills. Ed as usual you summed it up perfectly bud.
  23. Nice work Cinnamon Fish You've been hammering some beauties....
  24. Grand Slam on Cayuga today My son Mark and I decided to fish Cayuga today despite not entering the derby. We arrived at Dean's Cove abut 6:15 Am and were marking bait and fish right out front of the launch so we fished it and also went north for a bit. We stayed on the west side the entire day because of the wind and went as far south as Sheldrake and then turned back around north again. Most of the time we fished 45 to 75 ft of water with 2 downriggers with sliders and two inline boards and a 300 copper down the chute. We ended the day with 4 lakers, 3 rainbows 1 brown and 1 Landlock all caught between 35 to 50 ft down over 45 to 8o ft of water. Bait all over the place suspended mostly from 30 -50 ft but some on bottom as well. Fish usually around the bait either above or below it. Interestingly, we came up unexpectedly with the downriggers in 46 ft of water with the deepest one set at 45 ft and noticed at the same time a lot of bait with fish underneath and thinking they were lakers because they appeared right on bottom I then saw a fish go after the 45 ft downrigger and whamo he hit it and I was still thinking laker when my son grabbed the rod and the fish went for the bottom. It fought real good and once we got a look discovered it was a brown instead. So much for assumptions about fish marks and their positioning. All fish were caught in the morning nothing in the afternoon until we pulled the final downrigger line to discover a 14 or 15 inch landlock on it to complete the Grand Slam.l. Only took a couple pics one of the brown and one of one of the first rainbows. All in all a fun day despite the moderate level of fleas on the lines (other than on the copper) and the variable wind affecting our trolling speed.
