Or 2 heavy duty screw eyelets (Tractor Supply or Runnings etc.)screwed into the swim platform and use the heavy duty rubber bungi snugly on it (front to back) on the plattform and side to side if needed
No matter what recipe you decide to use or the specific fish used the initial care and preparation of the fish may be the most important factor. If you intend to eat it bleed the fish immediately after caught and put it right on ice in a plastic bag. When you filllet it avoid the thick back area and the belly meat.. Cut out the dark lateral line material. Take the skin off the fish. Doing these things will minimize the strong fishy taste of the fish. For some of the strong tasting saltwater varieties the fillets can be soaked for a few hours in salt water with concentrated lemon juice added to it (e.g. for bluefish etc. It will suck the fat and oil right out of the fish.
Salmon, lakers, or rainbows cooked over the grill in an aluminum pan or foil in Wishbone Italian dressing and a little lemon juice and a little garlic powder, and Old Bay seasoning can be great and very simple and quick to do.If the skin is left on the fillet cook it with the skin side down and it will pull off when removing the fillet. Carve out any dark lateral line material before serving.
jk1 the fleas can be horrible on Keuka when trolling and in fact a couple years ago I was fishing with JB there and we couldn't even retrieve the downrigger weights because of a 6 to 8 ft 3/4 inch diameter buildup without cleaning them off on the way up.
Ed I have used the the Mustad 3x SS Siwash Salmon hooks #9550?) formore than 30 years and I have them on well over 1000 or more spoons and have never had a failure with them. I seldom lose fish with them either and if so it has not been the hook at fault. The hook has a very sharp elongated point which penetrates deep even on light hookups. The only lures I haven't changed to them are sticks and Revolution spoons because of the balance factor. I use 2/0 for smaller spoons and 3/0 for medium/ large spoons.
Good luck with the power boat racing stuff going on. Back when they used to hold the hydro races I was fishing on the west aside across from Sampson and the fish were literally jumping out of the water allover the place when the boats were really winding to avoid the noise
The older black rubber straps with steel hooks are stronger than the bungi's I have used them for years on my 3 gal. tank. Good idea to always check to see that you have them connected up though Dragged a tank earlier this season because I was half asleep when I left in the AM and didn't hitch up the strap...one of those hundred buck lessons Always make sure to leave enough room when you fill the tank (not past the max level) so the gas has room to expand.
Cool fish grizzlybarry Fishstix....I hear ya on the prop wash for the steelies. I run an 8 ft slider off the downrigger in there often 2 of them and Pirates, Evil Eyes, or NK28's. That is how many of the steelies come....Mike- You've got to get loose from that job once in awhile somehow.. We retired guys are taking all your fish
Good going . We spoke at the dock (3 guys in the 24 ft Penn Yan went out just ahead of you). That is one really interesting seaworthy boat....never have seen another like it.
That particular spot was once one of the best Fall perch spots on Seneca Lake (before the Ramada was built) They mention $750,000. I think a 100 slip marina will cost a lot more than that. I also wonder who will run it etc. The city right now has some real close minded individuals calling the shots at the lakefront...witness the current proposal to charge launch fees at the Chamber launch and I hope it won't be the same architect that didn't have a clue regarding the design of the chamber launch (eg the curbing jutting out so it impedes launching and can ruin trailer tires etc. And then there is the elegant bathroom facilities that are basically off limits to fishermen most times and cater only to the tourists.... I think I'll hold my enthusiasm until I see details and have it come into fruition with open access to all.
Hughes 7-12-17
Signalman and my son whose birthday it was today and I launched out of Hughes at 6AM. Started fishing at about 140 ft and went NW. Fished from 6AM until 12 PM. Caught 2 steelies, a brown and a 5 lb king. Nothing touched the 300 copper and only 1 hit on Spinney fly from downrigger (snap off), nothing on 2 wire Spinney fly setups or meat rig with sawbelly. Fish came 80-100 ft over 160 on riggers spoon bite various colors medium spoons trolled 2.5-2.7 GPS. Largest steelie came on slider black and silver Evil Eye. One steelie and king released unharmed. Larger steelie and brown didn't make it and were kept. Fleas were moderate andeasy to get off. Flies were biting when we quit. Fun day and a big thanks to Signalman for taking us out. Mark caught his brthday steelie about 9 lbs.while Mike scored the brown Beautiful morning
