  1. This was exactly my thought as well Cornelis
  2. If you fish solo keep the leader to the size of your rod (e.g. 8 foot for 8 1/2 rod)so you can net the fish without hand lining them)
  3. Nice laker and king John. I fully agree with you on the great sunsets too. I guess at this point in life the little things become more apparent and appreciated eh?
  4. Don't take the situation personally Nick and Theresa. You folks are top notch fisherpersons and recently this has been the toughest fishing out there that I've seen since the mid seventies when I started fishing for the salmon on Lake O. Thanks for the reports that have always spiced up things for us and most especially for your efforts regarding my fellow Vet brothers Have a safe uneventful trip back to Pa.
  5. One of the great things since I quit hunting years ago is the fact that I often have the lakes pretty much to myself as the Fall rolls on and other than an occasional duck hunter dropping some shot into the boat things are pretty quiet and peaceful out there.
  6. I think Paul was referring to the softer more fragile mouth of the steelhead or rainbows and as ADK mentioned. You can't (or shouldn't) "horse" them.
  7. Mustad 9510XXX (stainless steel) Siwash Salmon hooks #2/0's and 3/0's for most
  8. Yeah after 9 hours on the water today and still having to put the boat away I've had it....time to relax
  9. My son and I fished out of Hughes 6 AM - 3 PM 6 rods out all day. One early morning fish on homemade multi color fly and wire immediately tangled on another line and got off. Only hit we had all day. Worked 90-120 most of time then went out to 330 ft to see if anything happening (wind switched to north so went back south with it) didn't mark anything on the way out. Not much marked but what we did mark was either directly on bottom (lakers) in 130-150 ft or up high 20-40ft from surface. Kind of a frustrating day .....but then again eeven a bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work anyway
  10. Hope John gets into the money with the steelie . He is a dedicated fisherman
  11. Glad to hear you got out Kev and your dad is back into it too. Headed for Hughes in the AM with my son Mark (not in the derby) to see if we can figure out the salmon not real optimistic though at this point after folks results the past week or so.
  12. Just has to hook the right species now Nick I'll have to figure out a species specific homing device for the head next time
  13. How about a pic Ed?
  14. It might be crazy looking Nick but it has worked up there and on the Fingers Just wait until you see the eyeball sinkl in from the pressure down deep
  15. Just make sure you keep the LED's and black lights away from your eyes as they can cause irreversible damage if shined directly into the eyes (UV)
  16. Here is an article and although not real "scientific" it is an interesting piece that may answer some of your questions https://www.deneki.com/2014/01/monofilament-or-fluorocarbon/
  17. If you are considering running dipseys in those Fish On rod holders put safety lines on them. You'll see why quite soon. I'd look for some metal Down East holders instead. I would imagine someone one here has some they would consider parting with. They would be a much better inexpensive solution I think. The plastic ones bend and pop open and just don't have the necessary strength.
  18. x2 on Walter Hang I've talked at length with him at Ithaca College after one of his presentations and he is one of the most knowledgeable people I've met concerning these environmental issues.
  19. Looks as though your crew has the right idea. Have enough of those and you don't care whether you get into them or not
  20. Rick - Unfortunately the sticker is gone but it is a real big net (36 x37) and the handle extends out to about 10 ft.
  21. Geez Bob you're turning into a sensitive male of the new Millenium
