  1. You probably can't lose depending on price for the bunch regardless as lead is getting scarce and there are guys on here that make downrigger weights that probably would be interested as the balls can be melted down.
  2. Nice going and that is a real beauty for the Finger Lakes especially.
  3. I fully agree with Nick. Chad does a wonderful of making this site run well and accessible to all. It is a lot of work designing and maintaining a functional heavily trafficked website and a lot of behind the scenes stuff needs to be done that folks are not always aware of. I used to design and maintain personal and commercial sites as part of my small business so I know it from experience and appreciate the consistent way this site runs with the amount of traffic it gets daily. I view the $20 per year as an inexpensive way to show that appreciation as well as allowing easy contact with folk having the same interests in fishing. The title "Professional" as a heading has little or no meaning or "ego value" for me as I don't fish for my living but as a lifestyle and I don't think it was intended to be used in that way. I view it as a way of distinguishing folks that fully support the website. I would encourage folks who are on the "fence" about contributing to do it without reservation. I know that not everyone looks at it in this way or shares this view so each to his/her own.
  4. I found the video interesting but I think it may have been done in California rather than Florida I know the study was well intentioned but one of the things that strikes me is the absence of visual information about how well the fish actually survived. Some were still upside down when they became free so I wonder. Also holding the fish vertically doesn't do them a lot of good survival wise either
  5. One of the things that strikes me here is that this forum can be viewed worldwide by all sorts of folks some seeking specific fishing information and others just curious about the region or the Great lakes specifically. The postings here should be done with this in mind as these "local issues" can become quite emotional and the topic can get far afield from ether the original intent of the poster or the resulting informational value to site viewers. In any case it doesn't represent our region, our fishing sport, or the interests of the various people frequenting LOU to get into these local "squabbles" which detract from the information sharing process and purpose of LOU as an open forum for the exchange of information of value to all of us. Lets focus our energies on helping each other out regardless of body of water chosen to fish etc. We all have an investment in making our sport better and the best that it can become. Maybe a little more forethought to the possible results of our posts may benefit all of us.
  6. Tape off small section and spray paint with fluorescent paint at the intervals you wish. Permanent marker can be used but not as easy to see. In the past I used red yarn tied tightly and then super glued and it worked OK for quite awhile but I use roller tip rods so more tolerance than some other rods too. I've run copper without it being fully extended but I don't think it runs as deep as expected because it doesn't lay totally horizontal in the water (at an angle from increased water resistance) as when fully extended and some of the backing is used.
  7. If they were running OK previously (e.g. together) and the sensitivity has been adjusted properly and they each are on different frequencies my hunch would be that the transducers are either worn out or have been damaged( doesn't take much of a shock to them for example bumping hard while coming on a trailer, stones from the road etc.).
  8. Nice going! I'm sure you made an even greater impact on them that you may think and a memory to last a long time
  9. fisherdude you did real well for this lake the way things have been recently especially. As far as the tickets go I think most folks at this general end of the lake may register at the Chamber of Commerce on Main Street instead of the local outlets here in town. I've always bought a couple tickets in advance over the years whether I decided to fish it or not as it goes to a real a good charity. Good luck in the derby and with the boat traffic (especially the recreational boaters) after 10 Am or so I'll be out there too.
  10. You may wish to call him to make sure and ask as some of this stuff seems to rot the thread used in some canvas when exposed to UV sunlight for long periods. Some things will also stain the material.
  11. yep....that one sure looks it and is a real nice bow. They are fighters for sure and one of my favorites
  12. Yes you can rig them many different ways in setups e.g behind downriggers or dipseys by themselves etc. but if you wish to get real deadly with lakers run them behind cowbells. If you haven't done so check out the Gambler rigs on here. He has it down to a "science" and the results speak for themselves
  13. Nice work Dennis and son Just think about all the week days you'll have in retirement someday that is what kept me going
  14. Just an FYI but a 22 inch rainbow would unless VERY abnormal would weigh about 3 3/4 to 4 lbs.

Nice wally. man....we caught a 21 incher yesterday on Honeoye but that pic sure makes it look dwarfed
  16. Looks like somebody hooked up an air hose to his belly John....he sure wasn't starving to death Nice work!
  17. I had a hen a couple weeks ago right out back in a small depression on the hill under a bush for days and I though she was going to nest there but she disappeared. Hope it wasn't a fox or coyote at fault and she just changed her mind about the site (like many ladies do:>)
  18. Hey Kevin are you sure that didn't come from the ocean? What a beauty!
  19. Nice work Al. I think you guys had the right idea during the derby too as it definitely wasn't a "trollers" derby
  20. Yes tell her you have a lot of plans to travel.....just don't mention it is to the launch
  21. I have had my 2 stroke 135 Opti on my 18 ft Whaler since both were brand new in 2002 and it has performed flawlessly with the exception of the impeller screwing up in 2013.....my fault as they were supposed to be replaced every couple years and I still had the original in it The engine is incredible for a 2 stroke on gas and oil consumption but I run non-ethanol91 octane and always have used the specific Opti oil in it and marine Stabil year round. Mine has probably 500 hrs on it as I have until a couple weeks ago used my 9.9 2 stroke trolling motor for trolling. I now have a new 4 stroke 9.8 Tohatsu for that. The motor will troll down to 1.7-1.9 (stainless steel prop) when necessary although I have primarily used it for trolling only in real windy conditions going against the wind over the years. It always starts up immediately but I keep my battery fully charged and run all my secondary stuff off another battery as I was informed when I bought the boat that it has to have over a half charge to start the motor as it a a high amperage draw during startup. I took it in last year for my first set of spark plugs since the originals and when it was tested for compression I was told the compression was just the same as one that he would test from the showroom and that these motors are considered the best that Merc has ever made. In short I love it and feel that it is very reliable. Most of the time I run it to and from places at 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and I kid you not it uses less gas than my old 2 stroke Johnson 35 horse motor on my 13 ft Whaler.
  22. Ah... probably the only way would be to see if one or the other unit can use a transducer of different frequency (e.g. 50khz instead of 200 or 83 etc.) if neither is dual frequency.
  23. Should be OK if the transducers are different frequencies.

  25. Fishy is a real good dude He also goes out of his way to help folks get what they need and he either has on hand or has access to all sorts of fishing stuff at his shop. As a LOU guy and as a Veteran as well he deserves our support. If any of you are out that way fishing Keuka especially stop by and have a look for yourselves. He always takes the time to chat and is very knowledgeable about fishing in general and Keuka fishing in particular
