  1. Rollie you have a PM
  2. Hey Alec - One other thing I thought of is that if the fuel mixture is too rich (e.g. put too much oil in with the gas0 it can eject residue too (I've had it when I have "guesstimated" the oil and put too much in with the gas) guess it pays to follow directions....but I'm a guy what so I know about directions?
  3. I've had it with mine too even lately and it seems to be unspent fuel
  4. Just a small suggestion about handling fish that you will be releasing- avoid handling them near the gill area or inserting fingers etc. and it will increase their chances of survival long term.
  5. Dennis you are very welcome You bring up excellent points. I spent over 30 years with the state in a different agency and Albany (especially Emperor Cuomo listens to nobody) The only thing they respond to and fear is something getting ahead of them in the newspaper) and then they merely dump it in the lap of the regional agency and blame them for the problem despite its actual origin. No matter what the agency the regional offices and staff have little say in anything (especially budgetary) and even when asked for "input" because of public outcry any info submitted by a regional agency is totally ignored. I do think doing whatever we an to advocate at the personal and group level can have impact in Albany if it is publicly brought to light (eg. Representative or Senator on the news or on TV etc. or news station doing a special report)
  6. Nice going fellas some sweet looking fish
  7. WTG Joe . One hell of a brown too.
  8. Where are the rod holders for the swim ladder Nick? cmon....I know you have them
  9. Real nice job Mike ...looks very professional . Good luck if you go tomorrow.I just got my boat out of storage tonight at &PM (called the guy Wednesday AM and he just got to it) and I have to install some electronics and load all my junk in yet....if I finish in time I may be out there myself for a trial run
  10. I'll try to help fishy out a little here. These examples are the smallest sized Honeybees (about 2 inches or so) but they come in larger sizes as well. The small ones work on brown trout in particular. The Great Lakes 44's also work great on them as well and on the rainbows and landlocks.
  11. Hey Jason you might want to contact Hank (L&M) on here. Sorry to hear about it bud.
  12. Perhaps some of the Liquid Steel stuff in a tube that hardens like metal and use a putty knife to smooth and then fine sand and use touch up paint in close color
  13. Geez Keith.....I'm kinda fond of having a spinney wind around copper leadcore and 7 strand myself////cutting is the best part or better yet a couple wire rigs getting together.....nothing like it for fun
  14. Sounds good. Best of luck to you this season
  15. Well put Sea IV
  16. It can be but usually a Seth Green rig uses multiple lures and leaders. What I'm saying is why potentially jeopardize major expensive equipment when it can be done much easier with greater control over the bottom with a wire rig than with a downrigger. I have done and still do use my downriggers NEAR bottom but not bouncing it. ON Lake O it may be easier to use the downriggers that way than on other bodies of water because of the relatively low structure and the gradual nature of the bottom. I guarantee that if you were to use that method often on the Fingers you would be losing a lot of expensive equipment because of the extreme changes in bottom topography.
  17. I think John was referring to "in general" because in the absence of major egg predation factors perch and bluegills and sunfish do have high rates of successful reproduction because they lay a lot of eggs but they have to because many other things eat them (alewives, other fish like the sunfish etc.). The thing I was getting at earlier was that since the influx of the Zebras and perhaps the Quaggas (deeper water) the bottom is literally covered with them probably interfering with reproduction and the alewives when in shallow devour they eggs in the reduced number places the perch spawn
  18. I think you'll find that happening quite a bit with the very cold water temps They are not into expending any more energy than they have to at this point so they may be just swiping at it and saying the heck with chasing
  19. Yes last couple years I've been getting the Empire Pass so I don't have to worry about having the money with me etc. I think I pretty much get my money's worth considering all the launches I go to etc.
  20. I think I may have the record so far I was fishing on the east side of Seneca in 60 ft of water for perch and I was using two rods and placed one ia rod holder while bringing in a fish and I accidentally knocked the other rod (favorite ultralite setup) out of the holder and into the water sank to the bottom and I said a few choice words and the fish stopped hitting so I left. about three months later I was pulling copper with a Pfleugar spoon for trout in that same place and I hooked into something that felt like a branch or something when I got it up I immediately recognized my rod and reel (reel had my name engraved on it) I was totally dumbstruck.....what do you think the chances are connected with that happening? I took the reel apart and dried it out and oiled it up put it back together good as new rod wasn't affected in any way either.
  21. Rather than chancing hanging up on bottom and losing your weight and whatever is attached why not just set up a bottom oriented wire rig with a 32-40 oz sinker on a mono drop line and cowbells behind it and drag bottom with that. All you risk is the sinker and you can control it on bottom much better.
  22. Ed I think the parks (Sampson and Seneca lake at least) haven't historically started charging until some time in May near Memorial Day but given the condition of the roads in those parks and the docks at Sampson they may have to re-evaluate that process but on the other hand the distribution of funds received by the state seldom follows logical distribution . I noticed the other day that they were repairing some of the docks in the marina at Seneca. The fishing has been permitted in both parks until some time in April when the boats start mooring there and I've been told by a number of the workers in those parks over the years that the NO Fishing signs are intended to help the moored boat owners keep their privacy and security rather than being aimed at the prop/line issue.
  23. LakerTaker that is exactly the mentality I was talking about.... pretty short sighted....
  24. I think they selected 70 khz frequency on the Fishhawk to avoid this on both Humminbird and Lowrance transducers. It is highly probable that the problem lies in the position of your HDI transducer and it may need to be positioned exactly according to the installation instructions. My hunch is that it is up too high from the bottom of the boat. It should be approximately 1/16 below the boat bottom parallel to the ground NOT the boat bottom, and you may need to tilt the angle of it until you lose the interference. Turbulence can appear very much like electrical interference on the screen and losing bottom is often having the wrong angle position of the transducer.
