Yes Al is right and it also is a good idea to bleed them out before putting them in the cooler with the ice for maximum freshness.

Thun - thanks for that chart...I hadn't seen that one before- very useful! Tioga - iIt can be useful to do that if you get a kink aways up the one end of the wire and rather than trashing the wire reverse it and place a very small 50 lb test SPRO (#8 swivel where the kink was so it becomes the "short section" underneath the longer section of wire. I know a lot of guys would say just get a new spool but sometmes you don't feel like waiting for the FedEx truck as while in a derby As far as transferring wire by reversing it on another reel it can be done but CAREFULLY and it should be a two person job to maintain tension on the wire at all times. You also want to start the wire straight in line with the level wind guide when you start it to prevent it going sideways on the spool.

Great to hear guys...hopefully i will get out during the week when not so "busy" (although it didn't look too bad today for a Sunday from the looks of the trailers at the launch) I have a bunch of home made flies I'm anxious to try out on the bows. Maybe fishing in the evening may be more productive.

Not sure about what the above mentioned situation was but we were with friends on a pontoon boat yesterday cruising around and drinking wine (as a passenger) for a few hours etc. and I saw a few boats trolling the Branchport arm and they were hitting the lakers I saw a couple taken within view about 3-4 pounds anyway. They were right out from the state park and pulling rigs in about 150-170 ft near the "hole" late afternoon before the rain.

Craig- A few things come to mind - I think the fish "die-offs" have hurt the fishing here and some folks have been fishing Lake O for kings too. Seneca has been really good this year and when Lake O is too rough to get out on it is often an alternative for a lot of folks around here. Perhaps biggest factor may be the fact that Canandaigua during the height of the summer becomes almost totally a recreational boating lake taken over by the people who come here to party at the north end and who may use their boats three times per year at most and the lunatics that run their jet skiis over your lines etc. ...and then there is the very crowded channel and launch ramp at the north end which on one pariticular Sunday afternoon took us 1 1/2 hrs of circling around waiting to get into the launch because of idiots putting down their tops and buttoning up their boats right in the middle of the launch ramp. Seneca offers a much bigger "sandbox" to play in Just my take on it...can't wait for Fall when all the yahoos are gone

Maybe folks should take it easy on bandrus....his comment merely illustrated a point I made earlier. Anytime you base a conclusion on limited information at a single "way point" in time (or limited range in time) the room for error increases dramatically. Those of us that have been around longer have had the advantage of having a few more data points (experiences observations etc.) to be able to "connect the dots" in a different manner.

I feel for you Steelman....it is a nasty feeling of being violated. A coupleyears ago I had a $300 camera taken from my boat docked at the launch just during the time while I was getting my tow vehicle and discovered it when I got home....really sucks....unfortunately there is always someone waiting "around the corner" to take advantage of people when they are "vulnerable" these days .... much different than when I was a kid and very much different than when my folks grew up where if someone found a wallet on the street it was customary to take it to the police station so the rightful owner could get it back....the attitude today held by many would be "What are you nuts? take the money out and throw it in a trash can someplace" or something like that.....very sad commentary. I have noted however on this website a few times folks have found things like nets along the road etc.and have tried to find the rightful owner and that kind of thing shows there may be hope for our culture after all. A lot of the home invasions and burglary type crimes are related to the drug trafficking though and the insatiable need for $$ by addicts and this problem isn't going away anytime soon. Best of luck replacing your stuff (or at least getting reimbursed)!

Too bad things have devolved into this. Especially given the intentions of Vince initially and then others to present ideas for folks to think about, discuss and offer OPINIONS as this is a very complex and evidently emotional issue that bears some discussion. DNRoch:scientists base their opinions, and conclusions primarily on data but basic data especially at limited points along the way suffer from having insufficient information and sometimes scientists conclusions formed by limited data yield limited results and sometimes they are actually imprecise and inaccurate. The State of the Lake Meeting contains information that should always be considered as "best guesstimates" based on limited raw data and not necessarily the word of God. Sometimes major findings in science come from areas overlooked by the data collection efforts and sometimes they come from observation and common sense used by non-scientists. Estimating the baitfish population in Lake Ontario may one such very questionable area as well as anyone really having a highly accurate handle on all the variables going on in the lake right now.....including the Fisheries scientists despite their valiant efforts.
