  1. There are times when the fleas are so thick that they even gather on the 200 lb downrigger wires and anything vertical already happened this year on Keuka.
  2. Nick yesterday they were even all over the 30 lb flea flicker Mike was using and my 30 lb wire (all along it at intervals). It may pay to check lines frequently to minimize buildup at least.
  3. At least you're seeing stuff Kev. You fishing west of Sodus?
  4. We only saw about a half a dozen boats out there yesterday Nick and we didn't have hardly any marks and the bait was up high about 50-60 over 170 or so. I don't think we marked over 5 fish while out there. You seeing any better screens?
  5. I run mine on 50 lb Power Pro Spectrum and tighten the release down so it doesn't release and then clear the board on the way in. You do have to be careful though not to slow down too much on the retrieve when the board is near the boat because they have a tendency to dive at that point and are then hard to retrieve but I don't usually run the 44's all that far away from the boat either. If I run chute rigs back I usually run them as balloon rigs to get them away from my other stuff.
  6. Nice laker! Every once in awhile Skinny gives up one of those hogs....I think I remember years ago a 30 lb laker came out of there....they must be really old because the feed there sure isn't rich (e.g. no sawbellies etc.) or plentiful for them.
  7. Signalman and I gave it a shot this morning on his 23.5 ft Penn Yan (great boat to fish out of) and trolled from Afro to chimney then back to the channel only seeing a little bait up towards the top (about 50-60 ft) and very few fish anywhere. The temp was 42 degrees down about 105 ft and we had one apparent king on briefly off a magnum spoon on the downrigger set at 105 over 180 ft. He was on and screaming out the drag for a few times then off. We had 2-3 footers the whole time with what appeared to be a 10-12 mph west wind (projected by the weather folks to be 6 mph) We had 4 downriggers out and two wire dipseys with flies (ran them 150 - 420 while out there) and nothing else was touched but that one hit on the rigger. The fleas were pretty bad on the wires and even the flea flicker on the two downriggers that weren't checked as frequently as usual (because of the rather rough water). We saw a few folks out deep but they worked their way back in after awhile and didn't appear to be doing much. We stayed mostly in the 130-200 ft range. I'm now wondering if the bite is late afternoon or real early AM. We quit about 1 PM. Despite the conditions and results we had a real good time chatting....always just a matter of being out there enjoying things anyway....
  8. X 2 on the "hang in there" Jason it usually gets worse before it gets better so hopefully you'll be headed for better In the meantime enjoy whatever part of the vacation you can.....you'll get there bud.
  9. Yeah I think Hop used to fish with Fred Flintstone at one time
  10. BPSwing I think Fishy Business on Keuka Lake had some Flea Flicker line the last time I was there but I'm not sure what lb test it was.....He is located at 3737 Pepper Road Bluff Point NY (607) 368-2306 or (315) 719-3673 (closed Tuesdays). Could give him a call.
  11. Doesn't get much more hardcore than that Joe
  12. Yes the old motors were made to last not all the plastic and cheapo parts like in today's and simpler was better. I used to service my old 1979 35 Johnson myself but when I take the cover off this Optimax it looks like I'm on another planet. I had the1972 Whaler for 22 years and sold it for $300 more than I had paid for it
  13. Nice going Joe and Nick! Best wishes on the wedding Nick....we'll be thinking of you while we're out fishing this weekend Joe will probably have his boat right outside the reception waiting to take off
  14. Most of the same tactics and equipment you use on Lake O will work on Seneca. I'd downsize the spoons to medium and small though but flashers and spinneys with fly work well (especially white and green combinations). You should be able to get lakers galore out in front of Sampson State park about 70-130 ft on or near bottom. The first point north (Pontius) and a little north of there often has rainbows suspended out deep. Run a little south of there and you should find browns and landlocks and over on the west side around Long Point and south of it browns lakers and landlocks.
  15. I think I heard somewhere awhile back that Blood Run was experimenting with 20 lb test Sea Flee
  16. Nice going Dave Always great to have "options" and ole Mr. Laker provides a good one when action on kings is slow.
  17. Can you imagine the ladies naming them?....something like Recipe Delight, or Fantasy Shopping Trip
  18. Yeah Justin I think he is referring to the probe for the X4 or 4D
  19. My hunch is that the problem may lie in the 4 oz. weight you put in it too much for it turning it on a severe angle

  21. I had a couple savage hits on flasher fly combos last time out running about 175 out and they didn't take either....when that happens I always wonder if they hit the flasher instead of the fly or something. I know I've had the chinooks do it on Lake O many times....even left teeth marks on the tape on the flashers
  22. It sure looks like the ball is the problem Dre and Tom's diagram together with your pic of the ball pretty much cinches it - the ball is off balance because of the eye that the wire is attached to being angled too far forward instead of being perpendicular or vertical.....and the suggestion of a (heavier) torpedo weight is a good one too.
  23. I think together all of us put together a "plan" for him Good info from all. You're under pressure to perform now jjfishes
  24. Certainly not a "master" of the Fingers (I don't believe there is one we all have our days but that is about it ) I think you will be OK without the riggers right now as there are probably fish suspended in the 50 ft range over whatever (10 color lead core) and wire divers with Flashers or Spinneys and flies generally work well especially with white and or green flies. Of concern is the level of fleas and possible weed pods depending on where you go. I've had better luck with medium and small spoons rather than the magnum sizes but some folks claim they do Ok with them. If it is calm and you can locate the fish jigging is productive....white jigs and white super flukes or white tubes usually work well on the Fingers.
