  1. Geez we must be in New York State or something.....no place else is this "messed" (I substituted a word here) up
  2. Make sure it is a north enders boat Wayne if you want a winning experience
  3. I remember one derby way back when someone did win the thing fishing off a dock and another where a young kid caught a huge winning laker off a dock out near Dresden (probably with a reel like Sean uses...a Zebco ) but he wasn't entered in the derby and a much smaller fish won it. Oh well you guys can always sit around down there on your boats and admire Nick's styrofoam fish that he uses for his pics
  4. Nice try but no cigar this time Nick....we north enders figured you guys would be quivering so bad down there you'd try anything to avoid humiliation this year
  5. Yep real neat guy and hell of a bass fisherman. That kind of family trauma and shock is something that families seldom truly get over....another reason for folks to be and stay safe out there....think about the effect on your family left behind if things happen to go bad.
  6. Yes Mike....your brother Bobby and I were on PT's boat during the search too. Don was a real good guy and it was a shame....and that tragedy is why I always carry a "pee can" in my boat and why I wear my life jacket when fishing solo. Just about every time I look at the sea wall I can see his boat on the rocks....even after all these years...and just hours before that we were joking and sharing fishing information...it happens just that fast folks.....
  7. Sean - It doesn't seem as though they would just impose the limit on just a section of the lake (s) so I am wondering if this is a general thing going across county jurisdictions. Yates is only relevant for the very south end not even reaching the Woodville ramp on the west side of Canandaigua either. The road sign for leaving Yates and entering Ontario is just south of the end of the lake if my memory serves me correctly but I think the east side south end is within it again suggestjng that this may be a multi county ruling or agreement of some kind.
  8. Thanks Justin. I'm kinda rooting for Kinger myself....he is really the guy behind catching the fish...Ed is just along for the ride in the new boat
  9. Crap .... can't even test out my big motor tomorrow if that is the case....and man....can that ever change peoples plans for fishing the derby on Seneca.... Thanks for the heads up Paul.
  10. Ouch....I'm hoping to launch at the north end tomorrow morning to test out my stuff for the Seneca derby and will let folks know what that launch looks like.
  11. Geez Sean....you must be getting desperate.... calling in devine intervention from above...I can't top that.. . Great pic by the way and incredible boat....my knees aren't knocking yet though
  12. Check out the Lowrance Mark 5X Pro http://www.cabelas.com/product/Lowrance-Mark-5X-Pro-Sonar/1157726.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3DLowrance%2BMark%2B5%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=Lowrance+Mark+5&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products No it isn't color but it has good definition is dual beam and has speed and surface temp . It is a real good unit for the price if on a budget
  13. Good luck with them.....the smaller ones will work on walleyes too.
  14. I hope you are going to be using a deep v, deep gunwale and wide bottom 14 footer (before considering rigging it)
  15. It does happen. I lost a good buddy that way on Seneca Lake back in the late 80's and he was a Charter Captain too. Apparently hit his head on the way and must have been unconscious. I was apparently the last person to see him alive and speak with him at the launch ramp....and part of the search party....very haunting feeling to this day.
  16. Good one Mike!
  17. Thanks guys. We are very proud parents indeed. I don't know if it is because it is going to be the 50th derby (I think I have fished about 40 of them at least) but I am as psyched up as I have ever been for this one (could also be because of all the trash talking too ) Now that we've stirred up the south end guys they will be a force to be reckoned with too but I'm just hoping they get "disoriented" or even lost at the north part of the lake on the first day which will give us enough time to smoke em As long as everybody stays safe and has fun I'll be satisfied regardless of results. Hey Kev I know the father and son thing is as important to you as it is to me (although from different angles) and just being able to be out there doing what we love doing with them is what is most important and really what it is all about. Hey Mike with those lines re-rigged you'll be doubly "dangerous" now.... and John I look forward to chatting in person again this year....hope to see you at the ramp etc. again.
  18. Yeah....get in all the "practice" you can south enders.....if conditions are right you'll need it
  19. Pap a lot of the debris on Seneca ends up on the shoreline beaches depending on wind direction but also much goes out the canal system by way of the Seneca Canal at the north east end of the lake. It flows into the Cayuga Lake system (north end and out the Seneca River to parts east....) I believe something could hypothetically reach the ocean by this route (e.g. St Lawrence to Hudson River). As young kids we used to put notes in bottles and send them by the Seneca Canal
  20. Pap. You made one of the top deals of your life on those spoons The guy who made them was named Bernie Klimzak and was one hell of a fisherman back in the 70's and 80's and those spoons rank up there with the Suttons. WTG
  21. You sure put a hurtin on those fish out there WTG!
  22. Sometimes it can be a bad fuel line connector at either end (and especially where it goes on the motor) or the bulb is sucking air
  23. Sounds more like a bad board (or short) in the downrigger to me....
  24. Thanks Mike....that is better news than I expected (the fish... not the break off) I'm getting pumped up for the derby.I just returned from my daughter's graduation from Ithaca College and Cayuga was total mud at the south end and was happy to see that the north end of Seneca looked a lot better than I expected. A little murkiness might help us out too as long as it isn't real muddy...I'm hoping to test out my motors and equipment early this week here on Canandaigua. I'm always reluctant to fish before the derby on Seneca because several times in the past I've caught bigger fish than those that won the derby before and after it (but not during) and that is pretty depressing
  25. Yeah I seldom turn mine on at all during the derby I learned back when we were still using CB radios Thank heaven for cell phones....
