Pap - Zack is right unless you are real partial to an extra long fluoro leader for some reason 8 or 10 ft is really sufficient for this purpose. I use a Spro #8 swivel connecting mainline to leader to prevent twisting.
If you go to mono you may be considering 200-500 pound test (depending on the boards might check with Amish Outfitters)). Mono stretches more than braid and you want something that is relatively abrasion resistant (mono with a hard coating rather than the soft stuff). Some boards have a tremendous pull to them so with waves etc you need something very strong. I think it may be more prone to weakening from UV exposure too. The problem of the releases not sliding easily may be due to other factors also such as the things you are using to hold them on the line, and possibly the boards themselves getting ahead of the boat speed and creating slack etc. Might want to check that out as well. I think this a may be one of those issues where stuff that is specifically designed for a particular purpose is the "best fit" (I.e. planer board line).
Check with Geordie Magee Canvas in Brewerton (near Oneida Lake) http://mageecanvas.com/
Just a suggestion if you have input into the construction of the top. See if you can have it made wider from front to back than the one in the pic and slanted down toward the back a little more than the pic you have. It will provide a little better shade in full sun and also shed the rain water better.
Good they are dredging it out before the derby that silt was piling up pretty good in there.....hope they get out from the end of the dock aways this time....
Yes it seems to be down a bit and that is a good thing right now. It will be interesting to see how bad this ice jams up in the outlet though. Hopefully things will work out OK and there won't be excessive damage but at this point who knows....
Good going Mike. Certainly not a project for the weak of heart The Admiral is right in the midst of doing his Penn Yan right now...and I know you guys have had your hands full....not everyone would tackle it but when you have a boat that you know so well etc. it pays to put the time and energy into it (let alone the price of these new boats). Congrats! My hat is off to you. Best of luck with it and with fishing this season. Les
Mike I actually went down to the north end to give you a better idea of "on the ground" data. Pictures speak volumes....it is anyone's guess right now and dependent on wind direction and speed and perhaps rain conditions. It is possible that some docks may be taken out by the ice when this stuff moves despite the "bubblers" etc.
Here is a visual "tour" of the north end from Wyffels Road (about 3 miles out on west side north end side to Kershaw Park at the extreme north end including the launch ramp and pier areas:
"The Canada goose is another species that has really become a problem". Yeah Justin it is pretty bad when you have to wear hip boots to the launch ramp; not to deal with the boat but the goose crap....let alone the guys on a golf course The crows are a problem in my area too. I haven't hunted ANYTHING in years (timing issue interferes with my fishing) but I've tried to nail a few of the crows at close range out in my back yard with a pellet gun with ballistic pellets....every time I so much as turn the knob on the door they take off like rockets.....frustrating... but I have to laugh...they seem to be kinda smiling too as they take off which pizzes me off even more
Welcome aboard Rick. It is a great forum with a lot of very knowledgeable people who are generous in sharing their information and opinions.....Very healthy for the sport! Les
Zack is right.... the last I heard they were having difficulty finding someone to silver plate them. Here is their number 585-374-2628
It would almost be worth the trip there just to experience the store....like walking back in time to the fifties and sixties
