You might want to call John and ask if it is possible to ship the canvas you have to him if it fits correctly "as is" and have a new one made from it. I know the preferred way is to actually fit it to the boat but see what he thinks....He is top notch in his work.
I just checked out the west side from Wyffels Road north and I couldn't see any places for access right now because the areas near shore are pretty much broken up ice and open water ( a lot from bubblers) so you can't get to good ice from there (e.g. Butler Road ). I could see where someone had been out from Butler fairly recently but now the near shore ice is broken up there. This south wind is breaking up the southern edge of the ice shelf and who knows what things will look like after days of this. There were three huts out from the Yacht Club but I couldn't see where they launched from and there was open water along the shore there. There were also three ice boats cruising the north end in front of Kershaw out quite a ways. On the east side at the pull-off area a few miles up the lake the ice was pretty "sketchy" and the end of the southern edge of the shelf was right out in front in about 15 or20 ft of water with open water there. I could see water moving within a crack in the ice near shore so it doesn't look "ready" yet anyway
Thanks FLX. I heard there were about 100 huts out there today when my buddy drove by there. Just wonder what this prolonged south wind will do despite the thickness of it (i.e.undercutting)
3feathers - I did not use the word communism ...the word "Nazi" did come to mind but didn't use it either. I served 4 years in the military during the Vietnam era....how about you? I get kinda tired of hearing all the stuff from the liberal "freeloaders" and from my vantage point it does look like we are going down the hatch as a society because of the types of views folks like you seem to hold "sheeple" does seem to capture the essence of it.
One of the primary things that made this country great is the capacity for independent thinking and coupled with the concept of free speech it is what has separated us from the "baboons" of the world and the "lemmings" that blindly follow off the edge of the cliff (e.g. the Germans in WWII). Now we have a large segment of our society in march step with Emperor Cuomo here in NYS and at the federal level with the the "Great Pretender to the Throne"
He (Cuomo) doesn't care about moderate vs. extreme...only opinions that differ from his own or those other loser legislators downstate. He is on a total power trip....I don't agree with everything so-called "extremists" say or believe but last time I checked this was America and they had the right to their own beliefs and the right to speak about them. Emperor Cuomo doesn't think the Constitution (state or federal) applies to anything other than his own belief system. His statement was irresponsible and inappropriate for a sitting Governor to make.
My break-offs were with the commercially tied flies that had used fluoro (not going to mention brands but two of them)....I've never had one of the 40 lb Big Game mono ties break that I did myself. I am a firm believer in using whatever works for you regardless of the current popular trend...I use fluoro for some things and mono for others depending on what I find actually works best for my application of the material or tactic etc. Sometimes it pays to swim against the current
I've used it off and on for many years. Usually the spray on shad scent just because I can buy it easily but I think herring scent is better if you can find it. I spray it on both the flasher/spinneys and spoons and fly heads. I also spray the stuff on the inside lids of my lure boxes periodically so that it masks other scents.
Geez.....kinda surprising that they weren't out in the 20 plus range (the bigger ones) over there east. They can be perplexing but then again there is a lot of water...those little @#$%@#'s can be anywhere I've been fishing Honeoye waiting for it to freeze up here so hopefully they will turn on here and it will be a good year.....getting kinda low on perch in the freezer.
I wonder what is happening at the south end? Those guys are pretty quiet down there in terms of info. How far did you go out at the north end (i.e. how many ft. of water?) I'm hoping that guys bubbler screws up this year at Butler Road so we can have some decent ice to get out in that area.
Good one about the kings Kev.....Can you imagine getting one on ice fishing stuff? I'm up for getting together....hope Laurie's health picks up soon bud. Les
Well despite the12 degree temp when l left home at 2PM and a brisk wind I met my son out from Dana Shores on the east side south end of Honeoye and headed out to 17 ft to start.....only "lookers" and dink perch went out to 21 ft. same thing came back in to 12 and only "lookers" and the marks were small even went into 9 ft. and dink perch there too. Mark caught one nice sized perch at 20 ft but that was it. We fished until 6:30 PM and everything was shut off totally so we packed it in. It was 5 degrees on the way home....thought it felt a bit chilly.... Oh well there is always next time.
My buddy in San Diego told me about a guy that put a mannequin in the passenger side of his car so he could drive in the commuter lane (express) because the requirement is that more than one person has to be in the car (or you get a $300 fine)....a cop on a motor cycle pulled up next to him when he was stopped so that ended that solution
Hey bondouley your boat gets the job done that is for sure....each boat has its advantages and disadvantages....I know a number of guys who have gone back to smaller boats that are easier to trailer and less expensive to run....bigger isn't always better....but in rough water on Lake O I lose my argument
