If it were me I'd be talking with the tech guys at Furuno to see the best match up for my situation because with a through hull once installed you probably aren't going to want to rip it out if it doesn't do what you want it to do.

They have somewhat different plugs and they are heavier duty all the way around....very good quality....Legacy is right bite the bullet and I'm pretty sure you will be thankful afterward. My 10A's are nearly 30 years old and still great....I replaced the older cords twice before going to these because of the same cracking problem with exposed wire and I'm convinced this will be the last time

I thinkFish307 was where I actually bought mine....the link was just a pic of what I was talking about....

Sounds like deja vu on the fish passivity Keith It is those times when a camera truly pays off....when they "mouth" the bait without moving or tightening the line and sometimes somehow suck the bait right off the hook as well We had a bunch of big gills that we had started up but lost because of being lip hooked....you could feel it give... Those pike that apparently someone introduced a while back are pretty big now and they sure don't have much trouble snapping 2-4 lb test line. I'll bet there are a bunch of them swimming around with jigs dangling from their mouth. Hope to see you out there soon. Les

Here is the cable I got for my two 10A's and they are sweet.....I know they are "pricey" but it should be a one time replacement http://www.anglingoutpost.com/cannon-retro-power-cable-kit-3883220/

I hate to say it but the new ones are well worth the money in terms of preventing aggravation. I finally got them a couple years ago and they are far superior (much sturdier) to the old type and "safer" and will hold up for many years.

It probably doesn't really make a big difference where it is zeroed from as long as you do the same thing each time. Secondly, if you catch a fish and then want to return to the same place it is a relative number anyway and you just return to it (assuming your boat speed etc.is the same).

Super_Hawk 2012 Sorry if I came on a bit strong....and I guess we did get off topic as well....and I can understand your concerns regarding a depth finder for multi-species....the topic heading threw me a bit I guess.( Lake Trout Trolling) Good luck. Les

You might want to start by stepping back away from things and reanalyze your objective (s). For example do you want to actually catch trout or just be "one of the guys" with the latest electronic "gizmos". On the one hand you are saying that your wife runs the show and that you are concerned she may balk at the cost of things and then you mention buying expensive electronics before getting on board with actual fish catching equipment. Getting and learning to deploy basic equipment should be your first concern. That would be the first step int he process not putting the cart before the horse. The suggestions regarding inexpensive but highly productive dipseys are good logical input.....thinking about a Fishhawk without getting or employing essentials first makes no sense.

Yes I gave the pickerel to the folks next to us and they ended up later catching two more close in size.

Fished from about 9:30 AM until 5 PM today at the south end west side in 8-12 ft. It was very slow today...many "lookers" but despite changing jigs/baits every few minutes and jigging our butts off we managed 1 4-5 lb pickerel (jigging) and about 20 or so very nice gills...no bass or walleye action or any releases on the 5 tip-ups with emeralds. We threw back a big bunch of "dinks" that were located in the less than10 ft area. The ice is excellent...about 6-7 inches of hard ice with no snow on it.

I think I would be putting a hard rubber insert of some kind ahead of the release on the wire or on the end of the boom to prevent excessive wear on the connection there when it abruptly stops. pretty neat gizmo though

I think Mark may be right....I don't think they are legal in the Fingers or Ontario.

Thanks John. Now that is what I call a great explanation. I'm not about to throw out my roller rods yet (as I love them) but you made many great points for folks that are about to take the "plunge" can benefit from. I sure second the suggestion of actually trying out the equipment if possible beforehand....there is no right "one size (or type) fits all" to this issue.

There are many somewhat complicated issues connected with it The chemical lampricide can only be administered by certified people, and the weather and water flow conditions have to be exact for it to work right and without danger to other species. There are not only economic factors (i.e cost of applications) but social ones as well... for example all the "goody goodies" protesting and lobbying the use of the chemicals in the watershed etc.

Pap - the major difference in the fluoro leader material vs. the fluoro fishing line is increased stiffness and abrasion resistance. The fluoro fishing line is designed to be casted so it is a bit "softer" but it is not as durable. The fluro leader material is more expensive but it is also a higher quality line for some of the types of fishing we do (especially salmon on Lake O) but for lighter fishing situations in the Finger Lakes I often use the other variety because I want a little stretch and more flex in the line.

Hey Justin - I was thinking more about your suggestion about online recording of the info and it occurred to me that it could really get more folks interested and at a deeper level say if everyone could view ongoing tallies but could only record their own....could bring out the competitive spirit and increase diary cooperator numbers. My only misgiving with that approach is that inflation of data might occur more readily

We were there yesterday afternoon until just after 6 PM at the south end and there is an inch or so of water on much of the ice with some cracking. The near shore ice in front of the ramp is compromised. We went off to the north a bit and it was OK. The temp was still over 50 degrees last night when we left so I'm not sure what today will bring.....with the creeks running and potential gas pockets (esp at north end) possibly undercutting the ice especially near shore.

Pap - I haven't seen them in a while but they used to be small yellow cover booklets where you record basic info such as where fished, date, species of fish, length, and weight etc. then at end of year you submitted the book to your regional DEC and they totalled up all the diaries for your region broken down by lake and you received a "summary" report later on.
