  1. Congratulations! all that's missing in the pic is the little Zebco rod and reel combo
  2. I've had my Vexilar Fl-20 Ultra pack flasher for a few years now and one of the things that has always been lacking in my view is a digital readout for depth rather than trying to remember which range setting I am on when I want a quick look at it. They now offer an "add on" for any of the Vexilar flashers called the DD-100 FL which installs in place of the older battery status indicator. I just ordered one from Cabalas ($49.95 plus shipping ='s about $59). The Vexilar website has a "how to" installation video for the Ultrapack. I installed it and tried it off a dock and it works great.
  3. Like everything else in Albany (government)....it's all about the money....no common sense or logic involved in any of their decisions
  4. I agree but you know that used to be said about the Seth Green rigs we used to run too when people unfamiliar with them would see them inaction (especially back in the old days when you could run 15 leaders per rod and would have 4 rods out with jugs) along with other stuff like boards or outriggers That young guy had his system down pretty good though...
  5. Not sure what type of oil you were looking at but not all "oil is oil" I have to use the synthetic type in my Optimax and it runs about that price. I suspect that what you were looking at was something like that rather than just the regular oil.
  6. Any NYS certified inspection station can do it. Many auto repair stations are certified and have their sign out in front stating it.
  7. First of all I'd get a bunch of quotes from canvas guys pricing-wise. There are however huge differences in the quality of the plastic in terms of "aging" characteristics (mainly UV effects),durability and thickness etc. so it might pay to really ask questions along those lines too. I had a dodger made for the front of my previous boat by John Mann of Sodus Bay Canvas and it lasted 22 years and was still on the boat when I sold it and was just starting to "yellow in" so the good stuff can last too.
  8. True. Because of the amount of tackle they use they try to get by with the minimum that actually works at the least complicated and most cost effective methods....we might have something to take away from this
  9. Cool! Interestingly they use all SINGLE stainess siwash salmon hooks on all their stuff (even J-plugs (which I changed over to from trebles more than 30 years ago) more proof that they hold better and are easier to take fish off if these dudes are using them. It looked like they were using leaders from their flashers at about 3-4 ft to the lures and I think the case for hand lining in kings can be made too Thanks for sharing.
  10. One of the things missing here is what are you fishing for and where? It is critical to your decision. If it is Lake Ontario that is one thing, and fishing the Finger Lakes is too but if it is a lake without fleas that is another matter.

pro-fish-nc - I stand corrected....on closer inspection in my image viewer I notice the difference in the heads etc. they are gizzards for sure .... you are right ..thanks! Les
  12. Good point Brent. I think you may be amazed at what you'll find from the recent results you guys had trolling. There must be some real monsters in there. Sometimes ithelps to experiment once you find them with various jig sizes but the jigging Rapala in the perch color small/medium has always been good. They also seem to like things horizontal rather than vertical and the hook tip have to be covered for sure. I've watched them (in clear water through the hole) "test" the bait by gently mouthing and you couldn't even see or feel the line move And don't be too surprised if you find them in much shallower than you might think....especially early and late in the season.

Nice work on the eyes guys. Pro-Fish-nc I believe those baitfish are immature alewives rather than shad.
  14. Justin ...could be even worse....what if your fly was down while lying there looking down the hole for them
  15. Nice pics.....sure makes me want to be down there next Spring and Fall....looks like the Sagamore in background....we usually go the Borne on way in and Sagamore on way home right along the canal...very scenic.....sometimes I feel like pulling in to one of those pull-offs and getting out the rod but the girls are usually anxious to get home at that point
  16. Yes Pap... it can make a difference I've been using my own combination of crawfish and shad scent on my jigs for years....it can make a difference when they are reluctant biters.
  17. Hey Tim - I don't know whether you have/use a camera for ice fishing but I know on Honeoye I was making the assumption that there weren't any Walleyes around while jigging etc. because of lack of results but guys nearby had a camera and were seeing them come right up to their jigs and look at the bait and jig then swim away. I was seeing stuff on my Vexilar zoom and thinking they were bass because of the size of the mark and catching largemouths once in awhile....made me rethink things... maybe different jigs, baits etc. to try an entice them...They seem very lethargic in the winter.. Moral of the story: "Don't think that they aren't there just because of lack of hits" Les
  18. Very nice John. The mount above it is really cool too....Les
  19. Hey Justin your comment about the seals at Nauset was real accurate but the last couple years the Great Whites (big ones) have been cruising there and at Chatham chowing down on the seals so there is some hope When I first started fishing for stripers back in the late 80's the MINIMUM size was 40 inches....then when they started making a "comeback" it was lowered to 36 then on down. Pretty hard to get the 40 inch plus fish then just to be able to keep them....it really sucked throwing back ones that were over 3 ft long after all the hard work....They have made one heck of a comeback now though...great fish and wonderful fighters especially on light tackle (kinda like a "salt water" chinook in that regard). Les
  20. Yeah it would be nice to knock a few of the jet skiers on their butts with a flying fish !
  21. Yankee's idea is a real good option as well. I bought my first whaler from Paul Krenzer (it was his own "Florida boat"). He has a real nice operation there and had a private launch across the street (bay side) as well. He and his brother Ed were good folks to do business with.
  22. If it was my decision....I'd go with Arney's. They have a history of treating folks right. I trailer my boat but i have dealt with them in the past and they were good.
  23. Good report Kev....nice talking to you and your dad (and seeing that sweet boat of yours) Les
