    Fall Rigs?

The 10's should be OK I use 8's a lot. The lighter line really helps feel the light biters but I'd just use a longer leader maybe (as far as visibility). The thing about the hooks is that the small fish are easier to get off and release with the shallow barb of the Aberdeen and the thin wire on the hooks helps with them not detecting it when biting. The #10's should work fine ....just may have some swallow the hook. P.S. In a pinch I have used #6 or 8 salmon egg hooks tied directly to the line (used to use dropper loops but felt that I couldn't feel them as well) If use shorter shank hooks bring needle nose pliers.

    Fall Rigs?

4 lb test either mono or firewire with 2-3 ft. fuoro (4 lb) leader with 2 gold hooks (Aberdeen Mustads - fine wire small barbs) tied directly to the leader no loops about 8 inches off bottom and18-20 inches up for the second and a small sinker (1/4 to 5/8 th oz at bottom) Drift with it until you find them then repeat or anchor a distance away from them and cast back into them. They are on their way in (next couple weeks?) so I'd start at 20-25 ft or so and work back in at the outer edge of the weedlines drifting
  3. Yeah you guys have been watching too much TV where they bite the heads off of the bait for good luck I prefer a bacon egg and cheese biscuit
  4. Did mine online...all you need is the number that is on the letter they sent out or you can look it up on site and they then sent a confirmation email. Here is the address: http://www.tax.ny.gov/pit/property/star13/default.htm or here's the phone number for getting the number : 518-457-2036
  5. Oh OK Ed. When I was having that same problem with my 9.9 (carburated 1987) I put a half a can of carb cleaner in with the gas (3 gal tank) and that seemed to correct it too.
  6. Ah OK . I think the Stabil/Sea Foam still might be worth a try though.
  7. Ed - Do think there is a possibility of problems with the gas itself (e.g. water or condensation in the tank or lines ) ? It can act like that....good to go one minute then coughing sputtering or running rough the next. I wouldn't think it would hurt to put a bunch of the triple strength Marine Stabil in the tank and maybe some Sea Foam (both at Wally). I use that Stabil throughout the year in my tank (60 gal.) and add it every time I get gas ( 91 octane non ethanol). Also if you have another gas can (e.g. 6 gal tank) and fuel line I'd try fresh gas in that first and by-pass your other tank and line.....(if it is oil injected disregard).
  8. Nice work Ed! Wish I could figure out the brown situation here....starting to get a bit worried as nobody I know has caught one recently on Canandaigua. I'm not giving up though. Hope you get to the bottom of the big motor situation....might want to have Fran Barrett take a peek at it. Good luck. Les

    NEW BOAT

Sweet ride! They are a high quality rig....best of luck with it and the fishing.
  10. Thanks Steve. I remember the boat and will keep an eye out for you when out there from now on. Best of luck on Saturday. Les
  11. Hi Steve, Unfortunately I have a previous commitment out of town. possibly Sunday though and /or maybe even tomorrow....that's life in retirement Les
  12. Ah thanks Mike.....some action here too in real close too (spoke with a couple guys I know real well early this morning at launch). I hope to get down to Seneca soon. Thank God I don't hunt anymore it's bad enough being torn between the trout and the perch
  13. Nice fish! They sure are a beautiful fish.....I wonder if they wear "braces" when younger
  14. Sweet! Those Tigers sure can really be elusive but so can the pike when they aren't in "the mood" Nice pics too....that one with the steam coming off the water almost looks like he is standing in front of a painting (ie. the beautiful backdrop).
  15. Thanks Joe. Best of luck to you....although from the way you've been going in the tourneys thus far...I guess I should just say "keep doing what you're doing" Wish I wasn't tangled up this weekend...sounds like fun.
  16. To my knowledge there aren't any gobies in Canandaigua Lake. The browns can be bottom-oriented and that's why I ran my weight about1ft. off it when I marked some fish down there but they looked pretty much like lakers and weren't interested in any case.
  17. Thanks. I've been trying to avoid "lakerland" lately but yesterday as soon as I went 60 or below they were "on it" I wish there were landlocks in here but I pretty much target the bows as they are the most fun. I try to release 90 percent or more of them. I have been trying for browns as well but have not been successful for whatever reason. There used to be some real hogs in here but lately I haven't heard of anyone getting them.....not sure what is going on there....wondering if low water levels in the Fall have been messing up their spawn cycle or something. A few years ago I saw a 16 pound brown that had been caught here. I ran one line way back today with 8 lb test fluoro and spoons and sticks that have been successful in the past and fished the dropoffs in shallower early this AM and nothing....
  18. Thanks guys. Hope you make out OK with the big motor Ed. It can be a pain...and painfully expensive sometimes. I've been running some of that Sea Foam in mine lately and it seems to idle fine..... Les
  19. Had to give it another shot this morning after yesterday. Trolled the same area on the west side (against the south wind with the big motor). marked a lot of fish out from pump house in 60 ft water circled around several times even running the ball 1ft of bottom... several lure changes ...no takers. Trolled to Danny's place without a hit. Turned and went east to 100 ft and trolled north on the east side from the point south of the Christian camp and went deep and first rainbow hit on downrigger set at 50 ft. and 40 ft back over 197 ft with orange and silver Pirate spoon (looks like NK28). Didn't touch slider (25 incher) about 5 1/2lbs released unharmed despite having to net him because so crazy . Trolled on ...another one on 50 ft. downrigger with small black Evil Eye slider with green tape.....jumped several times and then spit the hook about 20ft from boat looked about 3-4 lbs and released unharmed. Trolled into 234 ft. and had heck of hit on 58 ft downrigger and "game on" knew it was a decent rainbow as he kept taking line then he jumped a bunch of times in a row and put up great fight....but because of it he was shot by the time I got him in so I had to box him (6 pounder). By then it was noon and time to go home. I ended up filleting him and giving him to an elderly lady I know down the road as my wife is complaining about the lack of freezer space . I remembered my camera today so here are some pics.
  20. Thanks Mike and good luck with the surf fishing....stripers?
  21. Thanks Mike. I wish I could join you guys this weekend but I have previous commitments (that unfortunately don't involve fishing) Maybe next time.
  22. I went solo this morning and launched at the north end and trolled the west side all the way to Cooks Point at the south from 60 ft of water to 240 ft. and then back north over the same water to German Brothers. The morning was incredible....I could barely keep a line in the water without it being nailed. Nearly all fish came from 50-58ft down over whatever. The afternoon was slower but still "active". All together boated 9 rainbows 8 of which were in the 4-6 pound range and very fat and healthy. One rainbow in the afternoon was about 12 inches . All rainbows came from downriggers except one and interestingly none came on the sliders. I ran things 30-40 ft back. I ran a 6 color leadcore for awhile but no action so switched to wire. They came on a mixture off medium sized spoons and 4inch Rebels (that I had doctored up) I also caught 5 lakers from 2-5 pounds two on downriggers and 3 on the wire rig with a monkey puke Spinney and green tinsel fly set at 180-200ft. out.. I also lost 2 nice bows about half way to the boat but got a real good look when they jumped and had another good sized laker got off the wire right behind the boat while trying to steer too. All fish released unharmed. Unfortunately I left my camera in my vehicle and didn't realize it until the first fish.....but what a day despite fighting the NW to NE wind during the afternoon (which was responsible for most of the lost fish. Also had some hits with nobody home. The most active day I've had out there in a while. I can't even imagine what it would have been like having more than 3 rods in the water today P.S. Forgot to mention - Trolling speed -2.43-2.96 mph (GPS and fishfinder within .2)
