  1. Might want to have the belt itself checked out for adjustment or wear. Automotive places have some spray specifically for belts. May also be water pump bearing/fan starting to go??
  2. Nice going Jeremy....especially considering most folks have been striking out....
  3. It's all part of the wonderful age of electronics
  4. Woody.... you have a PM
  5. I can almost taste those fish from here....nothing like walleyes in the pan....nice going! Les P.S. I spent the weekend entertaining family ....no fishing.
  6. Pete like you say it's a big lake....unless you are anchored and jigging in the Sodus Point channel I don't think you'll be a major obstacle out there. About the only thing you can assume about the lakers is that they will be out there...and probably mostly bottom oriented....you'll still have to look for them....
  7. Vinny, The Bay Bridge is at the extreme south end of Sodus bay and is very shallow and weed infested for many hundreds of yards toward the lake which is quite a haul from there. You may want to consider trailering your boat to the public launch near Arney' s Marina and launching from there as it is closer to the lake. The Bay Bridge area is pretty much panfishing or fairly close by there -pike fishing. Most years in the past there was also the possibility of launching right near the chute (channel) near the Coast Guard station and pier where the lighthouse is. It used to open after LaborDay but I don't know if this is still the case. There is a parking area there near the beach. TiP: Leave the copper box at home. If you ever caught a king on copper by hand it could rip your fingers off. I'd also suggest you review over the extensive information on this site regarding dipsey diver and downrigger use prior to coming and try to obtain at least some basic equipment so you'll have fun and avoid frustration/disappointment. Make sure you have VERY sturdy rod holders as a first step, high capacity trolling reels and rods with 30 lb test Berkeley BigGame mono on it, salmon spoons, J-plugs, and flashers or Spin Doctors with flies. You can get all this terminal tackle right in Sodus Point in the tackle shops. They can also help you with "specifics". You can read about all this stuff in the previous postings on this site and there are some pics of the stuff as well. After doing so you will probably have plenty of specific questions that folks here can respond to. Good luck. Les P.S. Lake Ontario can be a very rough and brutal lake when the wind kicks up. You still may be able to fish in the bay this time of year. Get a map of it. The salmon do come in there in the Spring and Fall (maybe starting now or soon). People catch them off the pier when conditions are right. A friend of mine who lived near Bonnecastle point used to have kings come under her dock in the Fall and that is quite a ways inward in the bay. It also is less busy after Labor Day (usually) than just before.
  8. Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick Kev and sure better than staying inside today waiting for the relatives to arrive
  9. Nothin like "withdrawal symptoms" to get ya going on other stuff
  10. Best of luck Kev. I wanted to be out there someplace today but family stuff has intervened,,,,have to live my life through you guys today I guess.
  11. Geez you really know how to hurt a guy You can "rest your case" on that one!
  12. Next time that happens you might want to try trolling at about 2.1-2.5 and running your riggers very close to the ball (3-6 ft.) with a 7 or 8 ft.slider above the main lure whether using just spoons or flasher (locate the slider up higher if using it above flasher. Stagger them so that one rigger is say 3 ft. and the other is 6 ft. so it is a little behind the other. This will kill some of the potential slack in the line and give the spoons a little more vibration action. Sometimes heavier "floppy" or "wobbly"action spoons can help get them to really hammer it. Just a thought.
  13. Nice going Troutman.....hasn't been the easiest year out there either....I'm sure Quinten will remember that experience for a long time too.
  14. Sometimes about now in the season they respond well to larger "floppy" action spoons run real close to the ball 3-6 ft behind if they are down a ways in 100 or less water, and even the flashers the same way. I think they may see the whole thing as a "unit" (maybe of small fish or bait or a "competitor"?) when run that close and aren't as spooked by it. Just a FYI. Some of them may be entering the channel itself pretty soon since things seem to be a couple weeks ahead this year in terms of Fall approaching....when they get to that point they don't care about temps etc. and some of the fish pics on here were pretty colored up.
  15. Good luck out there. Looks as though I'm home bound this weekend with family stuff
  16. Thanks Lineman 49 and tinfin I'll pick some up....
  17. Check to make sure it isn't counterfeit Gator
  18. Geez Mike....here I am all excited about the fishing on Lake O and then you go and post those pics on Seneca.....hard to fish two places at once... Nice going!
  19. Good answers Nick I meant slit it BEFORE placing in the net and just use the net to hold the fish while bleeding out so no blood mess in boat or cooler Yeah that would be me too cutting a hole in my net (then it becomes my " auto catch and release" net). I hear you on the net handle issue....I had to make "adjustments" in my net handle too.
  20. Nice going John! Man those lampreys have been active too....I had pretty good mark on one of mine the other day too. Les
