  1. True Jeff. More important enjoying yourselves out there spending quality time with good people anyway.
  2. It doesn't look real bad but at high end speed you may pick up vibration because of the curvature in it. If you are depending on that motor it may be worth taking it to a prop dude to assess it rather than depend on us "armchair quarterbacks"
  3. Nice video Nick! Sure beats trying to describe things in written words...
  4. There are too many theories to even list here. Basically all based on superstition.
  5. Nice going Ed. That smallie looked like somebody hooked an air pump to his butt ...nice fish! They are often a pleasant surprise and although they aren't "kings" for their size they fight like h usually I've had 6-7 pounders on copper while after lakers in close in the Spring and they brought the cooper and spoon right out of the water....not much doubt what it is when they head for the surface
  6. Nothing like true love....for fishin that is
  7. I know this pic is not great (out of focus) but it gives you an idea of what one of the lampreys looked like just as it was disconnecting
  8. Yes Mike me too my son Mark has been bugging me to go already Good luck on lake O by the way. Les
  9. Same here Sean. Maybe we can do again in the Fall when things tend to settle down in terms of water quality. I guess this is why historically I have fished for perch in August..
  10. Guess , maybe I should have stayed in the pea soup....I knew it was where I needed to fish but it looked uninhabitable for beast or man As it was I had to stop at the car wash and wash down the boat on the way home (which I do anyway after each time out so I know for sure I'm not responsible for the invasive species) I think the lake has changed considerably since Sunday by the looks of it Kev. I guess you really had to keep your eyes peeled on the way home Nick with all that debris in the water (hard in the dark).
  11. Yes pulled the rigs deep out of desperation...I was wondering if that was you Nick but couldn't tell. Those weeds had to be bad there....
  12. Guppy 35 (Sean) and I went out from Sampson at 4:30 PM in my boat hoping to fish in a few of my favorite spots nearby. Unfortunately we were immediately met with two things that put a crimp in our plans: Weeds and debris and surface water that looked as though someone had spilled a green paint can all over it....algae bloom. Although I have seen this and worse on Honeoye I've never seen it this bad on Seneca. To sweeten the pot....the fleas were moderately bad as well. We could see the floating weeds to the south right from the marina. We tried to go north of Sampson and it appeared to be getting worse so we headed across the lake near Angus .It was somewhat better there and on the west side in general but close to shore looked pretty questionable so we set up in about 100 ft with two dipseys off outriggers, a wire rig at 200 with a spoon, a braid rig (yes I know they attract fleas but wanted to see how bad) at 175 with a spoon (trying out new spoons), two downriggers one with sliders one set at 55 the other at 60 based on earlier temp readings for the first 80 ft. We trolled from Angus to just north of Dresden varying things but couldn't coax a hit. Tried a leadcore - nothing there either. marked only lakers down deep or on the bottom. Pulled up everything scooted to about a mile or so south of Long Point and went deep and set up three Seth Greens with variety of lures and set them up higher than usual to cover the band of water from 40 ft - 90ft. with one jug rig. In short - one laker about 7 lbs on the 4th leader down on a side rig (Sean) released without bringing into boat. He had two14 to 16 inch lampreys attached one behind the gill and the other mid body- both escaped before I could "multiply" them. So one laker for three and a half hours of trolling. Not great results but it was a gorgeous evening , the lake was flat, with a slight breeze, and a great sunset. We had fun chatting, comparing notes on fishing stuff, and had supper on the lake...hard to beat that. Sean was great company, and on his game with setting up and dismantling things, and we hit it off great as it was the first time we had met in person. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time . Les
  13. Nice going Adk! welcome to salmonland
  14.
  15. Nice fish...that brown must have been in almost 70 degree water Ed Good going! Les
  16. "Blacks for me too, just starting to have twisting problem right at release. I use the best swivels on the market, wondering if fleas may be problem, or possible double loop i like to use just before clipping line to release. Anybody ever see this?" I've always done about 7 to 10 twists before doing the loop on the arm and it is never a problem.
  17. Black's with the possibility of Chamberlain's for stackers (saw them used this weekend but still prefer the Blacks for simplicity/speed of use for main release). The Chamberlain's would probably be superior for something like Walleyes though (soft or short hitting). I even used the Blacks way back when they looked like this:
  18. It is a bit of a challenge but can be done. I've often run two of them as well as two side rigs and two dipseys or toplines on my outriggers back when they allowed 15 single points (single hooks replaced trebles) per rod until they changed the regulation (for a total of 62 lures coming through the water). A downside to it aside from tangling is getting hung up on something like the anchor wires on the barge and losing 30 Sutton"s and bead chains etc. in one incident A number of guys used to run the three or more jug rigs out deep by the Navy barge back then. The trick is staggering them right and then when you get a fish carefully "sliding" them by the other rigs. Obviously you don't make radical turns. They may appear as a straight line from the side or a distance but they are slightly staggered to the side of each other in the usual presentation. They could have been running the downrigger deep and close to the ball. A couple of the guys used to use duck decoys for the "jugs" painted fluorescent orange
  19. Did the third big one hit the green fly?
  20. I think the best advice would be to talk with the Airmar tech dude...rather than taking your chances ordering one only to find that it won't do the job. They are good folks there who know their stuff with a quality product to boot.
  21. Better get your sleeping bag out for tonight Guff Good luck! Les
  22. I'll bet you'd have plenty of company regarding that statement: "I know who I would be booking with if I didnt already my own boat". Nice going Rick!
  23. Nice going! Good healthy looking fish.....kinda hard to get back to smaller lake fish after that stuff eh?
  24. Good going Matt on both the fishing and getting your wife interested....like LundSS said "boring" my wife used to even ice fish with me when we were dating but after we married it became the last thing on her "bucket list" Sound familiar fellas?
