  1. Looks like you have the salmon figured out pretty good Nick. Good going!
  2. Same here. They are first class! Trevor even took the time to send me a real nice personal email in response to mine. Folks like that are the ones you want to do business with....
  3. We got the electric sky show on Honeoye tonight just as things were starting to look good for a walleye dinner too just got home....and it is blowing like crazy now.
  4. Hey Tim do you know if Oravec is still around? I used to fish right near him a lot (night fishing ) at the south end of Canandaigua Lake...back in the 70's and early 80's... haven't heard his name in years and years. Les
  5. Thanks Ed
  6. Good cautionary point....I had assumed he would read the reviews if interested in it and would have seen the info in the reviews as you apparently did.
  7. Really makes you wonder just what is going on with these lakes.....
  8. Heres something to think about if you'll be using the trailer long term http://www.cabelas.com/product/TACO8482-Sport-Fishing-Solid-All-Purpose-Glyde-Sliks/737583.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch.cmd%3Fform_state%3DsearchForm%26N%3D0%26fsch%3Dtrue%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dreplacement%2Bbunks%2Bfor%2Btrailers%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26WTz_l%3DHeader%253BSearch-All%2BProducts&Ntt=replacement+bunks+for+trailers&WTz_l=Header%3BSearch-All+Products
  9. This always seems to be a tough time of the year here on Canandaigua until the water stratifies. Sometimes it looks as though there is nothing out there at all....they must burrow into the sand Another couple weeks or so with warm weather and the rainbows will be all over the lures.....
  10. Oh no! Let's hope Nicks gets up late or something.....
  11. Same spoon I lost a real big one on in the derby awhile back...
  12. After looking at other posts about that unit. It looks as though the 2 ft. depth thing is a firmware/software issue or (hopefully not ) possibly a design flaw in the chip or circuit board. Several people have mentioned the same problem.....I'd contact the Humminbird tech folks to see if they have a "fix" for it. YT's comment is well taken though...might want to switch to an Airmar transducer if they don't solve the problem as a last resort to try (better transducer anyway from the comments I've seen)
  13. Yeah Nick is just trying to keep the "northenders" from coming down there to grab his fish
  14. Kinda tough on those lakers Nick....the salmon are spoiling you.
  15. I use the battery powered LED lights that stick on so I can place them wherever I wish along the sides and they don't have any impact on my boat batteries. I have the regular wired courtesy lights under the gunnels that came with my Whaler too but I seldom use them. I haven't night fished for quite a while so for the limited use I give them now e.g. early AM's they work fine and are less than $10 each in RV sections of stores. LED's are easy on batteries too.
  16. Erabbit good luck during the derby ...hope to meet up with ya in person maybe or see ya out there... tight lines!
  17. What a day out there...that water looks like a swimming pool in someone's backyard...good going.. you keep this up and they may have to increase the stocking figures for salmon
  18. Looks like Nick might get a chance at a rod this time
  19. It seems as though it is a glitch in the firmware Andy. Might want to see if they have a current "fix" on their website. The techs there must have an idea from the sound of it...seems like a generic problem.....hopefully it isn't a hard wired design flaw in the main chip or board...
  20. Are you talking about the normal stainless steel stranded wire downrigger cable or something with a probe attached and coated cable etc.? To my knowledge you shouldn't be experiencing any problem either way if everything is shielded properly (e.g. no cracks or breaks in the shielding materials) and you have located your depth finder power cord and transducer wires as far away from other electrical sources as possible (i.e. not taped and run together for example). If you are referring to stuff that looks like interference on the depth finder towards the top or surface it could be normal "clutter" or possibly you have the gain (sensitivity) set too high or the position of your transducer may need to be changed (e.g. picking up prop turbulance).
  21. Hey Nick ....you have got to be faster...she's hammering ya Probably that combination of female intuition and lots of coffee again Nice fish ...great reports. I sure would rather be out there than moving all my daughters (and her roommates) stuff out of her third floor dorm to an upstairs apartment across town in Ithaca
  22. Something to try....get a can of Endust duster (aerosol spray for electronics) and spray it on the base of the housing where it screws on until the can gets very cold to the touch and then try unscrewing it or try placing one of those instant cold packs on it and then try unscrewing it. Sometimes the contraction of the cold metal will allow things to be separated.

Things seem to have shut off here....just as well I guess I'm preoccupied with the upcoming National Lake Trout derby coming up next week anyway Go get em Kevin....
  24. They are identical to the ones I had back in 1976 on Seneca Lake....brings back some memories....
