  1. Interesting situation - I overheard a guy today who has a 9 mm Sig 228 discussing the new law and his pistol came with (2) 13 round magazines. He said that when he tried to order new 10 round magazines over the Internet that they won't ship them to New York State. The 10 round magazine is the smallest that is made for the gun and the gun s no longer manufactured as it was replaced by the P229 so basically his $800 plus gun is useless. Unreal!
  2. Way to go Steve. It's anyones guess what will happen to the ice with the rain today and then 50 plus degrees tomorrow....I'm hoping to get back into some of the huge pumpkin seeds like I got the other day there (glove is extra large size).
  3. Good going Pops! Real nice fish....reminds me of the old days on Seneca when 15-20 pound notherns were the rule of the day....
  4. I don't know a whole lot about autopilots but wouldn't the boat steer better (perhaps with fewer position corrections) with the out drive in the down position (as a rudder)?
  5. You folks need to hear this lady speak from a unique perspective....VERY powerful!
  6. Sorry Andre.....I just couldn't help messin with you If I get down that way I'll check it out... Les
  7. I'm pretty sure that the place is frozen up right now
  8. Steve - We fished out from Trident Marine mainly east side about 11 - 15 ft of water. They hit waxies wouldn't touch spikes worms or rubber. All fish came from jigging...nothing on the tip ups with shiners., There were guys fishing at extreme north end out from beach but they picked up and went in early didn't look like they did much. We didn't check the south end. Adm Byrd - If my son had learned to ice fish from you all his tip ups would have been tangled together
  9. There was about 4 inches of hard solid ice. It was slow going though and aside from losing a good one at the hole (I think Walleye but didn't see it) we had a keeper pickerel, bass, and a couple dinner plate gills (my son got them :>) It was a bit chilly though (5 degrees this AM and only moved to 10 all day and windy) It looked as though the folks fishing out deep (middle) didn't do well at all from the looks of it as they didn't hang around long....of course another factor may have been the weather. My wife said I should be "committed" ...my response was " I couldn't be any more committed than being out there today in that weather Les
  10. My dad got me into my first fish when I was 4 years old. Despite 60 plus years of fishing and thousands of fish caught afterward I still remember that first fish (12 inch smallmouth caught on a crab) :>) I got my son into ice fishing for the first time at 2 1/2 years (for a brief time of it) Then at 3 yrs he caught his first rainbow and this is a pic at 8 yrs. with his first 30 pound chinook. He is still my fishing partner after more than 30 years. Bobber just said it all!
  11. As far as the first day of the walleye season in May....be real careful on the ice
  12. John is on target with his info and don't rule out fishing for them right after dark or just before. Walleyes are usually very "skiddish" and "fussy" you really have to mess with them most of the time when you spot them on the Vexilar . Guys with cameras have repeatedly noted that they often come right up to a lure or bait or jig and just look it over and then turn away and move out and you'd never know they were there. You don't want any "swiveling" around and around of your lure either. They often prefer horizontal jigs (such as the miniature Rapalas etc.) rather than vertical ones. Like most of the perch and pike family they often seem to display a preference for the chartreuse range (yellow through green) lures but obviously hit other stuff as well. Their eyes are VERY light sensitive so if the ice is very clear (e.g. when it first forms and or is thin) look for any spots that have snow cover and fish from it at the edges. Good luck. P.S.Pap seems to be right about most of the eye fishermen and secrecy
  13. I'd suggest anyone thinking about going out take along a couple extra sets of underwear (and not for just the cold weather)
  14. A couple things.... after over thirty years of dealing with behavioral issues, and human relationships etc. I am reminded of the old adage "Don't make important financial or personal decisions in the heat of emotion" . I once had a friend who got tired of the BS at work and sold his home and moved his family (2 kids and wife) to Florida WITHOUT EVER HAVING BEEN THERE. He returned after 7 or 8 months and had to rent a place and was pretty embarrassed as well, and ended up in a divorce over it, and the friend later committed suicide but the point is that he should have cooled off in the first place and looked at all the pros and cons (perhaps on a SPECIFIC LIST) and weighed the options and then done his homework as far as physically exploring the potential environment before "leaping". When this new gun law came out I had that same impulse as you (only thinking of Montana perhaps :>) but when I seriously thought things over carefully it doesn't make sense (at least right now) as I have a kid in college, elderly mother etc. It might be wise to wait a bit to see how all this regulatory bs pans out at the Fed level as well as here before doing anything you may regret later> I know this sounds a bit "preachy" but I assure you it is well intentioned anyway.
  15. They were getting them off the aluminum docks (out at the very end) at Sutters just before the last ice and a few off the end of the pier (south east end) last week but I haven't checked since then. They were using minnows on typical bobber rig for the most part. Most of the perch were in the 8-9 inch range and I had seen schools of them that size in the area of the channel the weeks before that.
  16. Maybe we should trade in for sailboats..... with heaters
  17. NOTE: When I downloaded the above GUN FACTS PDF there was a trojan horse attached to or embedded within the file (PSW.Generic10.BHJA) and my anti-virus dealt with it. It could be a false read by the program but I just wanted all to know it is a possibility given the nature/popularity of the topic.
  18. On his TV speech about the gun law Cuomo stated that "New York is now the safest state in the country as a result of this legislation".....what a sorry joke! It really shows how out of touch and naive these people are that are supposedly making decisions "in our best interest" and on "our behalf". The actual problems of illegal gun possession, criminal acts relating to use of guns, and mental problems and domestic situations leading to violence and the use of guns are so far beyond the scope of capabilities of the inept state government that their only resort is to attack the constitutional rights of law abiding citizens because we are "reachable" and the general public is so naive, ill-informed, and uninformed that they accept this charade as "legitimate constructive action" toward solving these problems.
  19. One of my friends asked me where I thought his old Mossberg 22 LR tube fed semi auto rifle would be classified. I didn't have an answer because everything I have read says detachable magazine....and even the old lingo refers to preban MAGAZINES as far as the 15 shot capacity goes....anyone have a for sure answer?
  20. Last night I wrote a lengthy letter to the N.Y.S. Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb He is actively involved in this issue and voted against it so folks may wish to send him your comments for starters. Here is his email address: [email protected] P.S. Even the anti-gun people should be upset about this as it is is an infringement on everyone's rights when the government makes its own decisions affecting the citizenry and the opportunity for input, commentary, or due process is aborted. This was decided behind closed doors and then rammed down the legislatures throat by the governor essentially thwarting any input that would be truly representative of the people of the state (either way)....that is exactly what totalitarian states do to their citizenry.
  21. Looks like the legal challenge is already underway http://www.wktv.com/news/local/Attorney ... 51321.html
  22. I imagine that the next nail in the coffin will now come from ODRAMA in an executive order at the Federal level Hooray for democracy!
  23. Isn't it interesting that these are the same jamokes that can't pass a budget on time or enact meaningful legislation other than "State Pickle Day" and yet in a couple days vote, pass and have signed legislation this important and all without the ability of the public to comment on it or be a part of it....great day for democracy... so glad I served in the military representing New York State. The Founding Fathers would be beside themselves if they were witnessing what is happening to our country.
  24. Here's State Assembly Minority leader Brian Kolb's take on it....
  25. I didn't see anything about having a round in the chamber in addition to the magazine limit either
