  1. Nice going C.
  2. There are good fish of various species in both of those lakes but neither lake is easy to catch them consistently (trout or warm water species) They don't readily give up their fish and the learning curve is pretty gradual for even the very experienced folks.
  3. Thanks Bill. I'll be taking you up on it at some point for sure I haven't had my own boat out for weeks.
  4. Man you guys would be a dangerous combo o
  5. The south end of Canandaigua has plenty of them and some real big ones if you can find some live shiners
  6. That was the one I was referring to Mudflat Thanks.
  7. You are exactly right about the clutch setting. A long time ago I actually saw that happen to a guy On Seneca during a derby. He had it set too tight and got hung up bad. It ripped a section out of his gunwale and the downrigger went in the drink in I think 70 ft of water. Luckily he had a diver camped in the site next to him who retrieved it for him but the biggest problem was the hole in the boat.
  8. Here is another option https://www.amazon.com/American-Fishing-Wire-Surfstrand-Downrigger/dp/B003OB5XLI/ref=sr_1_7?dchild=1&hvadid=78477693926459&hvbmt=bp&hvdev=c&hvqmt=p&keywords=downrigger%2Bwire&qid=1597437086&sr=8-7&tag=mh0b-20&th=1&psc=1
  9. I think I remember some time back seeing a 30 lb test wire strength test chart and Mason didn't fare very well compared to some of the others don't remember where I saw it though.
  10. I think I recognize that lure think I had one myself once
  11. WTG Johnny. Hope it inspires others to do the same and I think it will
  12. This is really another one of those personal preference issues and the bottom line is that you need to have confidence in whatever you decide to use.
  13. ANY kink can lead to a possible wire failure wherever located on the wire. Sometimes there can even be single strand separations that are hard to detect but can lead to failure. The solution is to cut out section if not too much wire affected or put on new wire if long section. Although shortening the wire may affect your line counter the fact that you have 1,00 ft on there to deal with reduces the significance of small amounts of loss.
  14. Thanks guys. Yeah Clark it was gorgeous but about 11 Am it got hot as H and we found ourselves praying for a breeze
  15. Maybe try either Bloodrun 7 strand or Accustrand (Cablestrand Corp). Seems to be problem free after many years of use. I do however cut off curly cues each season and if any observable kinks occur I cut them out (if long section I would put new wire on). I examine the connection frequently. I use a crimp connection and then surround it with hot glue to prevent the wire from moving back in forth in the crimp ends and use the clear type of hot glue so I can see inside it. Never have had a wire failure after many years of use.
  16. Hey Brian I think you exposed your secret weapon scents
  17. Not exactly a repeat of last Saturday but we stubbornly clung to the idea that the fish would still be deep in the 700's and some were but it was a long "hit and miss" day. We spent most of the morning in the 700's going out past 780 and back with a steelie (released) to show for it and a hit and run or two. About 11 Am we trolled south toward the 600's and the white homemade fly behind a UV flasher out 300 on #1 (124 mm Deep Diver) took a good hit and it turned into a low twenties king. We had a number of releases from the riggers with magnum spoons parked 90-135 and a couple of smaller kings (released) at those depths. We didn't mark much bait at all but intermittently marked fish both down very deep (200-350 ft down) and scattered at the 70-130 range but they wouldn't touch anything we offered. When we trolled into about the 400's there was a pronounced scum line present with a few sticks, weeds, and little pods of pond algae suggesting onshore water had been pushed out but we didn't have any temp device. We took a few real nice hits on the wires during the time out but they didn't seem to connect well enough and some releases on the riggers with nobody home. Spenta lot of time trying to get fish to hit without results but beautiful day and Bob did everything he could to get into fish including his damned fish call several times, and rocking the boat etc.. Fun day on the pond but the fish were not as cooperative as last time out. A few spiny fleas but not bad. Current was very strong and allover the place. Kept the two salmon that didn't make it.
  18. Exactly why I have stuck with the Mag 10 A's all these years. I know they have some real limitations but after using other folks high speeds I don't care for that feature. I know.....I'm a dinosaur
  19. Great post (as usual) Mark. Did ya check the vitals on the guy on the floor at the bow?
  20. Great tip to check with Fishy he always knows what is going on there and he has all the right tackle in his shop to get the job done.
  21. Sorry to hear it Hachimo. Sounds as though he is lucky to have you in his corner at a time like this. Certainly the right decision.
  22. It will be interesting to see how you guys make out. Good luck and stay safe.
