  1. Hope all works out well for you Andy. I know how much you like getting after those perch and trout
  2. Thanks Dennis we were able to locate the parts this morning and I should be back in business soon Once again, this website has some wonderful people on it and I truly appreciate the offers . Best of luck to all of your folks this season and with the derby in particular. a special thanks to my buddy Admiral Byrd who always can be counted on to come through in a pinch
  3. Brett first of all thanks for doing the BFF and I appreciate the invitation. I have a couple of personal issues: one my boat trailer is currently in the process of being fixed (brake master cylinders and seals, new tires) and I hope by Saturday for sure. The second thing relates to my main reason for not pre- fishing at all for more than the last ten or more years is because I have caught bigger fish than won the derby both before and after the derby in the past and I am quite superstitious so I now always go in cold the first day and try to figure out things from there. I do miss the social aspects of getting together with a great bunch of folks though and wish everyone good luck out there.
  4. Geez I thought that is all there is was or can be
  5. It was like this in the mid seventies to early eighties too and once they got the lampreys under better control the fishery bounced back. There is still hope My diary reports for some years back then indicated about 4 hrs to catch a trout and it is similar right now. Challenging yes and it required "thinking out of the box" and experimentation and.....patience and no matter how good you are at it some "luck" as far as winning the derby.
  6. All you need now is a pirate flag Dennis
  7. Lookin good Matt
  8. It is always a good idea to support our own LOU folks wherever possible, to buy American where possible, and to support local businesses. It is especially great when a business has a great product that really works well, that you can highly recommend to others and the Gambler rigs are a terrific example. Over the years servicing in some businesses has taken a backseat to concern for profit and volume, and quality has also often suffered, Brian takes a lot of pride in his product and business and places a lot of emphasis on customer servicing and this is what separates his business from others. Am I a believer.....you bet
  9. WTG Brian Good practice for the derby
  10. I think this year the virus is a main culprit in reducing involvement so hopefully once this stuff gets under better control things may improve in terms of public participation. Probably a variety of factors have been involved in the decline since the 80's. Hopefully the lake will rebound to its previous status as well with time.
  11. Maybe you should start your own cooking show Kev
  12. I have done it for years using weakened rubber bands (out in the sun awhile) or the small hair rubber bands (even from outriggers)
  13. In reviewing the comments on this thread a number of emotions are evoked regarding the willingness of fellow fishermen to share their own personal struggles and the importance of learning more constructive ways of adaptation and dealing with stress through sports such as fishing and hunting. The current Corona Virus situation although very tragic in so many ways has also offered some positives that might not be readily apparent from first glance, but may be a window into our culture and the importance of re-evaluating our own life situations. Many people have had an unusual amount of time away from the immediate stressors and pressures of their jobs, and the freight train pace of everyday life which can afford the opportunity to reflect on what is truly important in life. It also has allowed the opportunity to assess what may have been taken for granted along the way in our everyday life in this current culture of ours including the value of spending concentrated time with of family members, especially children, the importance of maintaining relationships with those folks we care about, the fact that there is a lot of good going on in the world from good people despite the depressing news accounts, and the fact that money doesn't buy everything including "happiness". I know I have gained an increased appreciation of the many liberties and personal freedoms curtailed by the current virus situation and just things such as shooting the bull with other fishermen at the launch ramps, shopping at stores without masks, and so many other facets of life that have been done without conscious thought for a lifetime. Lets hope that we can make the most of this unfortunate situation by being increasingly sensitive to and appreciative of those things that are important to us such as mutual respect for others and their opinions, presenting ourselves as good role models for the next generation, and taking full advantage of the good things life has to offer without taking them for granted. Life is short.
