  2. Nice brown trout....Good going!
  3. I knew that Keith... was not directed at you at all I mistakenly quoted you instead of the intended one. Sorry about that bud.
  4. Spell check operating? Oh....goes along with the low voltage.....Tell that to the families of the nearly 50,000 dead US citizens.
  5. Very nicely put.
  6. I'm not sure but in the hatchery they may bathe the eggs in Thiamine which can help ward off the problem.
  7. I didn't know Joe but from the comments and stories here I have respect for him because the true measure of a man is the way in which he is regarded by family, friends, co-workers and colleagues. The personal esteem, affection, and respect that are embedded in the stories say volumes about him. It is surely the way that someone would wish to be remembered. May he RIP.
  8. Taking into account the things already mentioned it could be added that In addition to the line diameter, weight of spoon - the length of line out can also affect the spoon if out long distance as a belly in the line can be created that forces a light spoon upward and offsets the pull of the board. You can run even the lightest spoons by adding a large split shot (or more if out deep) about 3-4 ft above the spoon. It serves two purposes: a) it holds the spoon down a couple feet and b) it can accrue weeds or debris that keeps it off the spoon. It also can be beneficial with floating stickbaits to keep them down below surface.
  9. Good perspective on it.
  10. ry646 - Vlad gave you some good info for starting out and covered a lot of territory. There aren't too many wrong ways of doing things on here most amount to personal preferences ...just some that make more sense than others. This is a good starting point.
  11. Man this is comforting to know I'm not by myself. Once I launched at the State Park in Geneva before it was rehabed and it was in the Fall with the water low but very muddy. I backed the boat down the ramp further than usual due to the low water and all of a sudden I felt a hard thump from the trailer ...yup went to far and dropped off the concrete with the axle sitting off the concrete slab and the wheels suspended and the boat floating off the trailer.Got the boat off and tied up on other side of dock. My buddy and I tried to lift the trailer but the wheels and fenders of the trailer kept us from fully lifting it off the slab. Luckily there was a guy with a truck with hitch set up higher than mine so he was able to pull the trailer out. Another good one a few years ago. Fishing the Canandaigua Derby trailering from my home outside Canandaigua to Woodville to the launch early AM while half asleep and in a hurry. Left my 3 gal gas tank on the back of the boat unsecured but hooked up to the kicker. Got to the launch ramp about 12 miles away and got ready to launch the boat and getting the tie downs unfastened when I noticed my 3 gal. tank on the ground with a huge hole in it and gas coming from it. I had been dragging for who knows how long....and new kicker tank not easy to find (Tohatsu) with uncommon fittings....a few choice words muttered to myself and blew off that day while looking for new $100 tank. Oh and lest I forget. the two jacks that I have replaced from failing to remember they were down when I left home with it in the down position and snapped the holding pins
  12. The first time I launched my first Whaler back in 1979 my dad was on the dock holding the rope and I backed in and slid the boat off and I pulled up the ramp and looked the the rear view mirror and my dad was waving frantically and I couldn't understand what he was yelling and then I saw the boat filling with water yep....the usual forgot to put the plug in. Last year at the Canandaigua launch a guy launched before me and motored out the canal toward the lake and just as I got my boat in the water I saw him running back in full tilt with t he back of his boat sinking.....kinda like deja vu The best one was years ago at Sodus Point at the launch in back of the restaurant/tackle shop (Bob Chase's). I was waiting to come in and saw a good sized boat at the dock in front of me and a van backing slowly down the mossy ramp. He hooked the trailer up and started to pull out and his wheels started spinning and SLOWLY the van went backward into the water way past his axle. A guy nearby quickly jumped into his Jeep hooked up to the van and pulled the guy and boat out.....would have made a great ad for Jeep but not so much for the Chevy Astro van
  13. Thanks for the report Matt and for everything you guys are doing to improve our fishery
  14. You're already too deadly with that stuff Mike
  15. And damned good at explaining them too Rob
  16. Nice going Kev hopefully the rest of us will be able to get out soon. cabin fever setting in bigtime for everyone.
  17. Great system but a whole different price range too
  18. I hear ya Dennis. I think I still have one of those wooden things that we wrapped the copper on.....different type of copper fishing trolling these days but still a place for jerking wire at least on the Fingers. Still have an old victrola I hold onto for sentimental reasons as well
  19. Do you guys think I might have OCD?
  20. What a bunch of ball busters reside here
  21. Folks have been coming up with ideas for entertaining their kids but what about the rest of us? I thought it might be good to make a suggestion list that people can add their input to give others ideas Here are some of the things I have been doing to stave off boredom: Checked over line and drags on all reels, examined rod eyelets for wear and rough spots Attached new fluoro leaders to all my setups (Lost count at 44) Made new rig lines for Seth Green rigs, and checked over connections Weeded out unused lures from lure boxes Shined up spoons and replaced hooks where necessary (sharpened some as well) Sorted out spoons and sticks by size in their boxes Repainted shark weights and coated them with Plasti-dip Coated all my Seth Green sinkers with Plasti-dip (to avoid handling lead directly and avoid scratches to boat) Sorted out all the stuff and equipment down cellar I'm putting back in the boat Checked over the downriggers and especially the connection points in the wire. Double checked my trailer lights and oiled the winch Checked trailer tire pressure and added air Charged the batteries in the boat Wiped down the displays of all my electronics Checked over the condition of all life vests Checked the dates on my flares Checked over and wiped down my kicker which off the boat is and on a stand in the garage Checked over my nets (one of which had a tear that I hadn't noticed previously) and repaired it Most of this was done while listening to music on Youtube (some great stuff on there if you look around) I'll be tying trolling flies as soon as I receive the new materials ordered Am I ready yet to go fishing ? Still more stuff to do as I think of it
  22. I feel much the same way Keith. This is a real study in patience (at the very least) for all of us. Take out the feelings on those trees on your property and go get em tiger At least you can feel some control over the situation and some positive satisfaction about progress.

    Yellow Perch

They have been doing their thing on the Finger lakes as well and it does not bode well for a productive fishery when these scummy birds are around.
  24. They should always matter in a civil society Ben
