  1. I hear ya. I like to have someone that knows enough about what they're doing to help out. My first year ever I had an older guy at work who claimed he knew everything. Anyway, caught 3 fish that weekend and spent most of the time untangling his seth green rigs. needless to say I'm all about the riggers! He spent more time complaining about how the boat was too loud and everything else. His last time on the boat. My buddy scott started at the same time with me so we are around the same point in the learning curve. Plus we both have the outlook - "If it works use it!". Besides lakebound, I want to be able to pass you on the lake while holding up a lunker! Dave, we'll have to get together sometime for a beer and see if we all can get along!
  2. I'm ok with giving money to NY to be able to fish. Ok with maybe having to buy a trout stamp in the future. And I think it'd be awesome to be able to purchase a 3rd rod license thingy. I have a 22' boat and it can get kind of stuffy on there with 4 people on board all day just to run 8 rods (and that's just the downriggers. no planers). I'm all for giving to the Conservation Fund. What I have a problem with is the state taking money out of the conservation fund for non-conservation projects or to fatten the wallet of some already over-paid politician. They need to do a huge audit of the conservation fund and make sure the money is going to the right places. Such as improving fishing areas. They make this stink about spreading mussels and diseases from bait fish when it was the industrial ships that brought them over from China or who knows where in the first place! Put more money into trout stocking! I know I for one would love to see more areas I can fly fish for brookies. Another thing that would be awesome is to see more smelt stocked. I net for smelt in the spring on the fingerlakes and you have to hit it on the right day to get more than a handful. Plus more smelt = bigger and more fish! I would love to help start out a smelt stocking in the fingerlakes. They are native right?
  3. I know it's early yet but I live for this tournament! Here's the deal. I'm running a "new to me" boat this year. On the old boat I only ran two riggers so there was no problem. This year I've got 4. So I'd like to run 8 rods. However, I only have one definite guy and one possible going. That leaves an empty spot on the boat to be able to run 8 rods. Anybody interested in running along? We usually head out of sampson. Already got one of the best campsites and will get the usual slip. I really enjoy introducing people to this so if you know of anyone who is new to this let me know. We split any winnings among everyone on the boat and everyone gets a chance at the lines. We don't usually drink on the boat (too much drinking done at campsite). If you want to drink on the boat I'm ok with that. Just an fyi the tournament is a week later than usual due to the month ending on monday. Starts on May 29.
  4. Chowder, Like your set up. Pretty much what I use on the fingerlakes. That wouldn't be too light on Ontario for those big browns I hear about? One thing I use on my planers that I don't hear a lot of people using are jet divers. Think they're a lot better than weights. Can be quite the drag though when trying to haul in a fish. Oh and I like the daiwa wilderness rods. Cheap and yet I've had good experiences.
  5. They the plastic folding ones? I have a pair of cedar wooden ones. They track awesome. I've heard the plastic ones don't track as well. I have a 6hp evinrude short shaft Billy said he'd be interested in as a trade in. See how much he'll give me for it. I need my taxes back!
  6. Yeah that would be awesome! I've been watching ebay a lot but most everything on there is some store selling it at retail. I've got to get up to Billy Bob's to check out a 15hp outboard he's got there. Maybe he'll have something too.
  7. True. But now that I'm trying to add a kicker to it I wished I had an outboard instead of an i/o. The brackets are expensive! I'm contemplating welding up my own bracket. Probably be stronger and a lot cheaper. For throttle and steering I'm going to yank the controls of from a scrap boat I have. If I have to I'll just mount a 2nd steering wheel to the right side of the cockpit for the kicker. The only thing I've found is the EZ-Steer and I'm not too impressed with the reviews and free beats $250! Have to look into it some more too see how much work I'm looking at.
  8. It'd look nicer if it had a 200hp outboard instead of an i/o, a hard top, kicker, oh and I got all that for the 3k I paid for this one!
  9. Maybe one day I'll get a boat where the main is an outboard and we'll see. Too much trouble to winterize my i/o numerous times. Test - see if my avatar is showing up. Supposed to be my boat but I doubt it's going to show much. Might have to edit it.
  10. It is entirely too cold out! I lied in the beginning. I don't do all fishing. I have a severe aversion to cold and haven't been too turned on to the idea of ice fishing!
  11. The first time I took the boat out the small drive shaft in the upper outdrive spun smooth. I had a friend come up with his little 10 ft johnny with a 9hp suzuki and pull me in. Made quite the sight!
  12. I'ev always wanted to kayak seneca for the fun of it. My dad once waterskied the entire length of seneca back in the 50s. I'd like to kayak the entire length of it. Have to run with the wind!
  13. I have a 80s-ish 6hp evinrude short shaft. Looking for a 15hp long shaft.....
  14. Name: Bob Location: Horseheads, NY Home Port: Fingerlakes Boat Name/Type: '82 22ft Cruisers Inc. Sea Devil I fish for: Trolling on fingerlakes, Spin fishing Chemung River Bass & Walleye, Fly fishing Cohocton River Browns ================== Hello. Getting heavy into trolling so I'd figure I'd get on here. Been watching these forums for a while and have found some help in them. Just about you name it and I fish it. My big thing is the National Trout Derby on Seneca Lake. Last year I was on the board for most of it but got bumped off on the last day. Going to make it this year! Running an old 1982 22ft Cruisers Inc Sea Devil. Yes it has a stringer outdrive. I have torn that outdrive almost completely apart and put it together. Have a bunch of spare parts. Anyone out there dealing with stringers and wants some info let me know. I run 4 mag10a downriggers and planer boards. This will be my fourth year in the tournament. Have a lot to do though. Just picker this boat up this past summer and need to finish outfitting it. Big item this year is a kicker. For trolling and just in case that stringer outdrive wants to act up on me again I can still make it in to port!
