Fluoro Leader with flea flicker line?
dbutts replied to Nathan40's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I make the leader the length that I want the lure behind the ball. That way you got the flea flicker all the way down to the release. I use 12-15 lb. Floro on the finger lakes. [ Post made via Android ] -

Fished with my son and daughter, 6 and 4. We launched in the canal and cruised north a few miles. I don't know the land marks on Seneca so I'm not sure where we were exactly. We had rods in the water on the east side at 6:45. Wasn't long and my boy is screaming FISH ON! I give him the rod and he gets to work... After a nice little fight, some nice jumps behind the boat, we land about a 4lb. L.L. Restet the rods and zing, the Dipsey rod starts going. I fight and land a nice laker. No sooner get the rod back in the holder and start letting it back out, and zip, the other Dipsey takes off... I fight and land another laker I can't wait till the kids big enough to handle the wire rod, my arms were ready to fall off... The rest of the morning was a steady bite. The area I fished was full of weeds, and fleas. Between keeping lines clear, catching fish, and daddy daycare goes fishing, I stayed reel busy.... We ended up catching 10-11 lakers, 2 salmon, and a fat rainbow.. Most fish were deep... 80-110ft. down. Surface temp was 75, down temp was 47deg. down 110ft. The kiddos had a great time, and got to reel in some fish. I prolly won't b able to get back out till the Seneca shoot out...

Check to make sure your weights r straight. I have some where the tails are slightly bent. This causes them to swim left or right. I have mine set up to swim away from the boat. I mixed them up once, and the cables crossed under the boat. [ Post made via Android ]

Ended the day with a 4 lb. Brown on 8 color core. It had the biggest lamprey I've ever seen. The eel was as big as the fish. Over all a pretty slow day, but we marked lots if bait fish, and suspended fish. It was good to b back on cayuga again. Oh, and the fleas are starting.... [ Post made via Android ]

Great report. I have not made it out on Cayuga yet this year, which is highly unusual for me. I'm shooting for Thursday, out of Meyers. Good luck and safe hunting.

This is service... I signed up for the lake trout derby at hills, vallys and streams this year. I usually do it in Watkins , but seems as a was already there taking advantage of the great prices and selection of fishing gear, I entered my son and I for the derby. Fast forward to Friday before the derby. I got out of work at 4:00, raced home to get the boat and get to the lake ASAP. Apparently there was an issue with my sons derby card that was issued. After realizing this Dan corrected the issue, and then drove the card all the way to Horseheads to my house and dropped it off. He handled all of this while I was at work day dreaming about fish. When I got home, the new card was there waiting for me. We grabbed our gear and raced toward Sampson, and the rest is history.... Thanks hills, vallys, and streams

I think Mr. Pokepole just likes to type sarcastic stuff to get people fired up, then sits back and giggles. I've read many posts from this guy that are just b.s. , but never any good info. He's ok with asking questions, and getting advice from the "pros" , and now wants to slam them. It's amazing how a 5th place fish can so quickly inflate an already oversized ego. Imagine the level of self-congrats this guy would b demonstrating had he placed a real lunker. [ Post made via Android ]

Well a quick, late, report from our adventures at the lake trout derby. We fished out of Sampson all weekend. Saturday we attacked the shallows with flat line and had no luck what so ever. So we moved out to deeper water and started getting fish. We boated browns , a rainbow, and lakers. We did around 20 fish for the day, our biggest being a 8.5 lb. laker. Sunday we checked out some different water and only found lakers. We did around 20 on Sunday with our biggest being 9.14 lbs. I think we made the board for a few minutes... Lol. Monday we went back to where we found fish and worked them till 8:30, when it was time to go. We did around 10 fish monday morning, biggest only around 7 lbs. I wish we could have stayed longer on Monday as we were getting dialed in. White and green pro troll with a frosted Luke big weenie fly on the dipsey out 250 did most of the damage.
