  1. I want to thank everyone for the kind words and the congrats. Running these events can be thankless, and tough decisions have to be made. The early morning buzz on the red dock was the problems that some teams would face if the event had to be moved to Sunday. I know one thing for sure, Tom cares deeply for each competitor, and made the call based on his info and observations. Our team noticed all the attention to detail in every aspect of this event--kudos to Tom, Steph, and his volunteers, great job! We also saw many smiling faces with the bonus prizes awarded below the top 10-courtesy of the generous sponsorships. Lastly, I heard more than one of the experienced competitors say how the 'Dipsey Ranger' team reminded them of themselves years ago. I think we will hear more from these gamers! How fitting, an 18' PENN YAN! Thanks again Tom, for all the work in putting this on.
  2. I got to know Chuck many years back, a good man. RIP Chuck. God bless you guys for helping the family out with this. Bargain on a proven hull.
  3. I have mounted several of these, on various boats. When mounting the readout, consider the ability to see it from cockpit as well as the helm. As for transducer, twin inboards usually call for dead center at the bottom of the "V", while Outboards and I/O's can be better served with an outward mounting, towards one of the chines. Just like a FF, make sure there is nothing ahead of it that will cause disturbance in flow of water past it.
  4. We would like to thank all the volunteers on the Sodus Pro-Am committee for their hard work and dedication in putting together such a great event. The weather was tough enough, but we did not know about all the other unforseen challenges you had to overcome--great job! As for the trophies, Fishtails Rod knocked it out of the park with his artwork. Thank you very much! So glad you all stepped up and ran the event, for us it just wouldn't be Summer without visiting Sodus Pt.
  5. Most Kings are still on their Summer feed-- there will be more!
  6. Congrats again to Brian and Marlene! Thanks to the excellent crew that put the O town event back on its feet. It will be even bigger and better than ever next year.
  7. It's another great year on Lake Ontario, particularly for size, but it is certainly presenting some curveballs. It is the opinion of many veterans that last year we finally had a good ratio of predators to preyfish--and the catch rates exploded for Kings. That year class has some 4 yr olds left--and they are big but the alewife numbers are astounding all over the lake. This will create feeding periods on their terms, as we are back to having excess baitfish in relation to predator numbers.
  8. Chad, so sorry to hear of your families loss. I will spread the word.
  9. Great people. Yes, I think thats where it all started. The original tinsel flies where made to be inserts for the squids.
  10. Now THATS a "sea trial" ! Good luck with the sale, Rod.
  11. Pacific Salmon are considered one of the top food fish in the world, when taking into account the rich flavor, nutritional value, and the omega 3's. Some people don't care for the oily fish compared to Walleye and perch, but it's usually in the way they are prepared. Unfortunately, there are still too many people who have only had Salmon that were dark and from a warm tributary.
  12. I think the recent good Salmon years has kept the pressure off them, but I think the goby numbers are down a little putting the feeding lakers in the Alewife "wheelhouse". This makes them an incidental catch while targeting Salmon a much more common occurence.
  13. Perhaps since this overall is based on 2 prestigious, "no comm" events, the original Challenge Cup can be recovered from wherever it is stashed and utilized for it's worthy purpose.
  14. Good stuff, Matt. Tim, if they allow that it will have to be the Oswego Captains mtg--before any scoring takes place.
  15. My entry may have gone to the store instead of the PO Box, will confirmation letters be sent? Thanks for all the work!
  16. We are looking forward to the return of the prestigious, 2 day, No communication event. Will confirmation letters be sent? See you at the Point!
  17. Chris, the Sport pilot model is for cable steered boats.
  18. The Yankee team had a very impressive 2 days. Today, in tough conditions they put another good day of Kings together and all the Coho in the world would not have caught them. Congrats to the Yankee troller team, and to Landing Zone on their 2nd place finish.
  19. Bazooka, it could be your transducer frequency as to your seeing the cannon balls. If you have other surface temp units, entertain the X-4D. If not, then go with the X-4 as the surface temp info is critical.
