Chris, your uncle was brilliant. He produced documentation in several instances where he helped reinforce our( avid Lake O anglers) positions in critical debates. Our observations regarding predator/ prey densities and the redistribution of forage species in Lake Ontario were dismissed as "anecdotal." He was as exasperated as we were when "doom and gloom" was predicted in the early 90's. He knew the Chinook was the solution, not the problem, even if your agenda was native specie restoration. Alot of people don't know it, but the single biggest reason the perch population has rebounded in Lake O is Chinook predation on the nuisance alewife population. Your uncle Tom, because of his love of Chinook and dedication to the health of the Lake Ontario fishery, had his job as a NYS DEC fishery biologist running through his veins. I learned alot from that man, and somewhere I have some papers he created on a variety of subjects surrounding our fishery and lake. I will try to find them and copy for you.

Sounds scammy and agenda filled. The only way this "study" would have any credibility would be to have an equal number of "subjects" that lived in each of the locations a voluteer came from, who lived the same type of lifestyle and had the same occupation as the volunteer and was roughly the same age(that will never happen, are they going to knock on your non-fish eating neighbors doors?). These witch hunts were around 30 yrs ago, and will be around 30 yrs from now. Someone trying to make a name for themselves and advance an agenda. Send back your response and suggest they compare blood fat levels in Lake O fish eating people versus non fish eating people.

Thanks for stopping by the booth and introducing yourself. 2013 Lake O pre season buzz is officially ON! I saw sheer joy on peoples faces, even though their pockets were lighter! Whether it was new or used, the tackle was "gold" to the attendees. It was great seeing old friends, and meeting new ones. Hats off to LOTSA for being so organized. Brian, years ago they were frowned upon because you lost so much sensitivity shooting through what was hopefully a thick hull. Like so much equipment, perhaps they have improved enough to warrant another look. If you are afraid because of trailering to install a true thru hull, it could be placed in such a way that it won't be "under load."

Airmar makes most of the transducers, even under different names so if you do need an adaptor they would be the place to start. Whatever you do, do not skimp on marine caulk and make sure its for use below waterline.

Thru hulls almost always give better performance, but are not always feasible. If it were me, cheesyrider, I would "clean up" the hull bottom by utilizing the existing holes with appropriate transducers, unless they are in horrible locations. If thats the case, you do not have to leave a "dummy transducer" in the hull just to serve as a "plug". A better play would be to get it out, because if that aged plastic ducer or wood or plastic fairing block fails you will have a significant leak. You could fill that hole with a quality bronze seacock(for any number of uses) , or just a bronze plug and cap it off inside. If you choose to go with your existing thru hulls, there are any number of adapters available to allow their use with different units.

The tilted element flush mounts are a huge improvment for thru hulls. No more fairing blocks, no protruding equipment to hit a log, and less drag. Steve, your deadrise will be different near the stern than it will midship. Get the right one and install it properly front to back(they are marked with an arrow). Yes, it's always unnerving to drill the hole but installation is not difficult with a helper. Good luck.

Guys, Most Lake O Salmon anglers go with the M or ML actions when choosing rods for riggers or surface planer boards, not MH (Medium Heavy). Some MH are like broomsticks regardless of the length you prefer.

They can be found on sites: Fish 307, Marine General, Capt. Gary's and I think Cabela's. I would install a 36'' track if you have the room, it gives you some options.

This is commonly done in winter rigs. Get all the hose out, and if the thru hull is threaded plastic, caulk and cap it with appropriate size cap. Then, find inlet on outside of hull and fill with 3M 5200 permanant caulk so it cant store any water and is added protection.

All of the Okuma rods are a great value, but the Blue Diamond series has been improved for 2013 and watch for the new "Cold Water" series as well. Absolutely nothing to worry about if you go the "Classic Pro" route, they have held up well.

Order them from one of the Lake O area shops, or Great Lakes tackle supply.

I can't speak on all the various makes and models, but I will say the Cannon dual axis rodholders are the best I've ever used for dipseys.

Chas, Thanks for the "nudge". Some of the annual events are in the midst of reorganization, but I'm sure some of these sessions will be held. Of course whomever and wherever these are held will be posted here.

Chas, seems you have caught the tourny fever! If Sodus is done like other Observer tournaments on the Great Lakes, your observer representing your team will be placed on another teams vessel of similar size. Choose your observer carefully, as it is very important not only to look out for your interests, but the integrity of the event and the entire field of teams. Rather than begging an indifferent person, a relative or someone interested in learning about the fishery will serve you better. Some teams compensate their observers, or at least cover their expenses and let them prefish with the team. If it's a 2 day event, a great way to do it is have 2 different individuals take turn fishing and observing, thus they have a stake and are not likely to be disinterested. No matter how accomplished a troller you already are, tournament fishing will accelerate your learning curve immensely. Good luck.

WOW. Innovative. A few thoughts/concerns real quick, as I have to plow mountains of snow but we want you to succeed big time. In a couple of places you talk of the max Salmon catch being 9 pros, 6 ams. You also state that the maximum amount of fish creeled should be in accordance of DEC regs. You also state there are no restrictions to team members number(great idea so charterboats can participate). I feel, that unless it is hugely important to your local charterboat fleet, you should make max number of Salmon kept to be 9/6. If you allow any number above the allowed number to be weighed, trouble will occur. You wisely state that in the case of inclement weather boats can seek refuge, but must not dock. You should also add boats cannot "raft off". No boat to boat contact. You may want to rethink the 3pm quit time, as with a drop of dock and possible low water, I don't see even a small event getting it done by 330 safely. Great job! Team THRILLSEEKER will be fishing both events on your big weekend.
