  1. Happy Birthday! Hope it was a good one.
  2. WOW, nice spin Rick. That could be the best piece of "salesmanship" seen on these pages. I remember when Kev introduced this, it really only came down to being able to dock all the vessels in Wilson as late as possible. Extra tickets for the dinner are available, so perhaps some Moms would enjoy attending that.
  3. I know alot of people looking forward to what you are going to roll out. Perhaps at least the general days of competition could come soon so planning, vacation days, lodging, ect could be rolled out first. Thanks again for picking this up.
  4. This country is so split 50/50 on so many issues, I'm afraid we are heading for another civil war. It's like the other 50% is a different species. Perhaps the administration knows this and is preparing. The rush-job move by NYS governor was definitely a posture play for a Presidential run. Sadly, there are too many people who fall for this manipulation. All this will do is create a bigger underground criminal element selling guns to other criminals. Eventually, people trying to abide by the law will rush into other legal(but not well thought out) means of self defense, and Chaos will ensue. Imagine all the unqualified dog trainers/dealers who will pop up. I remember when I saw the movie "Hunger games", thinking "man, this could happen."
  5. This is an opinion article. Actually, the list is upside down. The most fertile, fish growing lakes are in the writers opinion, the least desireable. I'm sure the "charter fishers" are looked at as a stressor because they encounter their favored native species and show case their unfavored "non native" species. This promotes a fishery they don't support, and they wish would go away. The runoff actually helps with the fertility of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, and if they had it their way our mature Chinooks would weigh 8lbs. These articles never, ever give credit where it belongs--with the brave managers who introduced the Pacific Salmon, thus controlling the invasive Alewife. This gives their beloved native species a chance. The articles also never mention how much the Pacific Salmon fishery has done for the quality of life or the southshore economies. Many people in the Great Lakes region are well aware that there are others out there that want to "wean" anglers off of their favored Pacific Salmon.
  6. Thanks for sharing your opinion. Over the last couple years while on the lake when no derby or tournament was going on, I have muttered to myself, "it's become a competition fishery." Nary a soul to be seen some days when no event is going on. Sure it's nice to have the room and solitude, but I'm all too aware without "angler hours/angler days", this is no justification for the fishery. The competitions are hugely important to the economies on both the South and North shores. BTW, for the record, the original "year 2000 plan" document included in plain english that bolstering the south shore economy was one of the missions of the Salmonoid stocking program. All exciting, viable fisheries have competitions. The Great Lakes have just followed suit behind Saltwater, and Bass fishing. Sure there can be an ugly side ANYWHERE humans are involved. One things for sure, this fishery and even some of the exciting competitive events have been introduced to young people who may have gone astray without this pursuit and all the quality individuals associated with them.
  7. Justified action, and in that state will be seen as such. Unfortunately, in some states these days, the perp would be the "victim". One thing that I am certain of, if they take guns from law abiding citizens, our elderly will no longer be able to live on their own. It is my opinion that the ONLY thing that keeps scum from jumping through their doors and windows is the chance they will get filled with holes. In the case of drug addicts, that isn't even enough.
  8. Congrats and best wishes to you and your family.
  9. Dodger, we are all in the same boat, trying to figure out the schedule and such. I was unable to obtain any other details other than to confirm the dates and that they are a "go". The vibe I got was both areas were pleased with their respective events so I wouldn't expect any changes there. Rod, we are bracing ourselves for the status quo down west here, and looking forward to change in Sodus and Oswego. Thats all I know.
  10. Thanks for posting. I feel for the Captains who were told the cuts would occur where the natural reproduction was the greatest, but then that was not done. I do like the cut and dried formula that if the 3 yr mature Salmon size returns it immediately gets increased 30percent. At least some plan is in place.
  11. Both Dishwasher and Stove are again available.
  12. As for the WEST end Pro-Ams, they are ON. It's business as usual. The Niagara will be held June 1st and 2nd, Orleans County June 8th and 9th. I contacted county employees from both Niagara and Orleans and they confirmed this. If you enjoyed the way those two were formatted, it sounded like it will be the same for you this season, but no other details were available.
  13. Dishwasher is sold, Stove still available.
  14. Happy Birthday, Larry!
  15. The stove is in good condition, the dishwasher is in VG condition. Black faces.
  16. Yvan, just to save you the trouble later, is the only determining factor to be an "AM" the vessel size? Are you going to let U.S. Capts fish that(Is there an official Canadian Capts license as well?) ? There are many "Pro" tourny fishermen who don't charter fish on both sides of the fence, are they good to go too? Don't dismiss this, as it will certainly come up if you don't clarify now. Otherwise, good thinking. Anything new with KOTL series? Will the scoring for overall remain the same? Are you letting teams "throw out" one of the "one dayers"?
  17. Wishing everyone a happy new year and safe travels if you venture out tonight. Lets pray for an end to senseless violence and safety for all our first responders who don't need more to worry about.
  18. Hi Eddie, it looks like the Sodus Pt area is committed to continuing the tradition on the same weekend this year. They are conducting a poll and seem to have a group in that area working on it. I have heard some whispers out of O town but nothing concrete yet. Tournaments are very popular amongst my clients as well, and I understand your frustration in trying to plan. See you in the Spring.
  19. Great topic, Chad. I was told years ago by a dedicated biologist with a passion for Chinook, that each skein of eggs had certain percentages of eggs "predetermined" at different year intervals for return. The theory is, mother nature wants to spread out the return of spawning Salmon to different years, allowing that gene pool to endure natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, droughts ect. It is also believed that the percentages are not rigid. If a particular bunch of fry get a slow start and have to "scrounge"(natural repro?), they are more likely to mature in their 4th or even in rare cases, 5th yr. With abundant food and a great start(holding pens?) you will see a greater percentage maturing in their 3rd year, which is always the greatest percentage returning in a healthy population already. Good representation of mature returning "jacks", or 1st year Chinooks(which are always males) is a good indicator of that year class and it's health. I am fairly confident that 2013 will give us a good number of monster Chinooks, just based on the ample forage base.
  20. If you need a gas/propane stove or Dishwasher to get by at this time of year, I have a Whirlpool stove for $25 and a KitchenAid "whisper quiet" dishwasher for $75. Buyer to pick up in Newfane/Lockport area.
  21. Thank you for the first statement in the above post. You have now cleared the biggest hurdle in bldg a successful event. If "I'm pickin' up what you're layin' down", you could run the "main event" Fri/Sat with 2 divisions and mixed species with an appropriate awards ceremony Sat nite. Then, as a bonus, a more casual 1 day single or mixed species shootout w/ one division and a 5/6 fish box could be run on Sunday. Quite an undertaking but it could be done. It would be important to not require the Fri/Sat guys or the Sunday teams to fish the other event, but of course they could. Wow, a Lake Ontario festival held over one long weekend!
  22. We are looking forward to what your committee comes up with. With all the sharp business people at the "point", should be able to put your heads together for a great event.
  23. Do yourself a favor and also check out the Convector series from Okuma. They will be right in your price range. They use the same drag washers(which I feel are the best in the industry) in the convectors as they do in the higher end models. I have used Convectors and Catalinas for many years and they are very reliable. A 30 size will be just fine for up to 5 colors, a 45 perfect for up to 10 colors. Best of luck with your choice.
