  1. I just posted on Tournament talk the 2 added classes on Sunday Feb 26 at the LOTSA expo. 12 Noon, Pro-Am format changes info session and 3pm Observer training class. Thank you LOTSA!
  2. Long overdue, there will be a Tournament Observer training class at 3pm Sunday Feb 26th at the LOTSA Expo in Lockport NY. Capt Paul Czarnecki, a long time tourny angler has dedicated his time to this cause before, and has accepted the lead position. We hope to have a few more concerned competitors as well. It has been been brought up recently on this board, and at many events in the past, that something like this should be offered. Here it is! If you observe, would like to observe to learn, or if your main interest is in upholding the integrity of the great Lake O tournys, please plan on making this session. Team Captains and leaders, make an effort to get your potential observers to this class. It benefits all. Thank you LOTSA, and thank you Paul for accepting this role.
  3. There will be a presentation and Q n A session on the proposed Pro-Am format changes on Sunday Feb 26th, 12 noon, at the LOTSA expo in Lockport NY.
  4. There will be presentation and Q and A regarding the proposed Pro-Am format changes at 12 noon on Sunday Feb 26th, at the LOTSA expo in Lockport NY.
  5. The Fish Hawk table will just serve as a place to learn about their products. There should be Fish Hawk dealers there and they will set their own prices. See you there!
  6. Nice job Tom! Web site is top notch like everything you do. I am SO looking forward to the Lake O season and all the great Tournaments!
  7. Thanks Brian. It is very important to attend as many of these as you can, and at least your nearest one. I have heard from several DEC people that the interest level of the public can be a big factor in ongoing management.
  8. Spring Cohos are considered a delicacy all over the Great Lakes. If you are introducing a relatively new Lake Ontario fish eater to some fresh fillets, make sure it's a Spring Coho. That being said, it's all about the healthy fish fat. The larger Kings have more of it, and at times can have a "richer" taste. It can take more skilled preparation but King Salmon are rated one of the top food fish in the world when taste and nutritional benefits are considered.
  9. The whole thing is a FRAUD. Lets win some voters out west, lets create yet another false economic boom through subsidies, and lastly while trying to give the the appearance that it is an environmental move, it is in fact a way to raise more revenue through gas taxes. Knowing that the industry is creating cars and trucks with better mpg, what a creative way to still recoup those taxes than to DILUTE the gas so we have to buy more gallons ANYWAY!!!
  10. Well put, Skipper. A good start would be someone who isn't apologetic for America's past global strength. That pipeline needs to happen.
  11. A start will be voting in November. That ethanol deal is just a flat out FRAUD.
  12. The fact is, cold water fish like Salmonoids are one of the few foods that can actually REVERSE heart disease. Moderation is always the key, but it's pretty well known that the risks are no more than eating ocean fish, and definitely safer than farm raised fish.
  13. Thanks Tim! I've seen every Giants game since the Norm Snead days, and this years team just flat out stressed me out the way they play close to the vest. Glad it was entertaining for most NFL fans.
  14. A duel in every way. The coaching chess match was incredible. Very happy for Coughlin, a Waterloo native, and Eli who despite being very humble can put to rest the "elite" nonsense. His laser strikes and audibles were spot on. Class move by NE owner Robert Kraft to seek out Giants ownership after game. Way to go GIANTS!!! And yes Pete, NOW is the appropriate time for a post! TC would approve, LOL!
  15. Hey Shade, only 70 boats ??? You are forgetting thats LOC weekend as well! It will be what it will be. On a positive, perhaps we can wear shorts at the WHI seafood shindig, instead of winter parkas!!!
  16. OK, not sure about the "old timer" thing, but I can accept "long timer." We have seen winters like this before. If this follows past history, It may spread the Salmon out more, and disperse them throughout the lake earlier. Keep in mind that no matter what, spawning Alewives and Smelt concentrate in Western Lake Ontario. A positive to this mild winter is the Salmon populations winter growth should be increased with the above normal water temps. Keep in mind any Salmon that aren't hammered in the Spring frenzy will be around in the Summer and Fall, and that much larger.
  17. Figures, Paul. My findings have been just the opposite. I do have multiple pics of wary "shed" bucks with flash. I never got a 2nd pic with the IR cams. They looked alarmed, and I never saw them a 2nd time. I can vouch for Chromeslayers pics with flash. Multiple pics of same nocturnal bucks. It could be that not all IRs are created equal. Mine are Primos Truth cams. I see where they now have "Black out" and completely silent features on their newest models, so I would imagine its been an issue for others with their products. I recently had conversation with Phil at Indian Mtn, who owns a parcel in the southern tier. He felt you could condition the deer, even the mature deer to the cams by having many of them out year around. Thats just not an option for most of us do to theft issues.
  18. The last 3 seasons or so, the end of June early July timeframe has been as consistent as any time for Olcott Salmon. As a fulltime Charterboat operator, I live and run out of this harbor because of the consistency of the fishing here.
  19. OK, it's approx 8 weeks til people start splashing, there is little safe ice, and many of the tribs are a muddy mess. Lets talk deer cams! I never played with Deer cams until late last Summer. It didn't take me long to realize there is a science to it. I started with IR cameras, because I thought they were the latest and the greatest. I soon learned that the deer aren't crazy about them. Not sure if it was the red lights or some sound they are detecting. I saw the beautiful pics Rebel and Chromeslayer were getting with flash cams despite the bright flash. I started experimenting with a Cuddeback this post season. Not only does it take pics that are fantastic, the deer show little concern despite the repeated flashing. What have you guys that have used these for years seen? I think they could be great tools for pre-season scouting, but I'd think twice before using the IR's around mature bucks. What observations have you guys made?
  20. Stan, That Niners team is one intense squad. I have seen every game Eli has played, and he has NEVER gotten beat up and hammered like that! At times, it seemed like they had 14 guys on the field on defense! A team to be proud of for sure. I'm a big Coughlin backer, so I will point out two veteran moves-- rather than play a speedy gamebreaker taking punt returns, he chose to put his starting CB (Ross) back there. As powerful as big 6'4" Jacobs CAN be running the ball, when he "tip toed" on that super critical 4th and 1 in the first half, Coughlin rarely sent him back on the field. Smaller Bradshaw was running harder. You are right Stan, that Niners team will only improve.
  21. Frustrating as it is, its impossible for the discussed changes to be rolled out prematurely. In an effort to quell the negativity(which unfortunately I was a part of last season) changes are being discussed thoroughly. I'm sure that people can understand how complicated it is dealing with 4 different events, in 4 different counties. I have delved into it, and offered input. I have been told that it will be finalized this week. Knowing in advance that you can't please everyone, all the parties involved are trying to reach a consensus on some important points. One of the comments I heard was, "the Tournament marketplace has changed, we are trying to address that." To me, that is an encouraging statement.
  22. No "smack talk" from Giants fans here, tons of respect for the Niners and their fundamentals. I think you can see it Coughlins face, that he appreciates how they win football games. You gotta beat the Niners, because they're not gonna beat themselves. Disciplined squads in all 3 phases. Should be a great game. Blue Ghost, I think how it will go depends very much on the Giants being able to do SOME running. Noone has been able to blast the Niners running, but we have to keep that very fast defense playing honest. That will open up the Giants passing game which has been their strength all year. Eli has proven to be a fine QB in inclement weather. Being nervous is just part of being in the Championship game and being a fan, comes with the territory. I will put my faith in the coaching staff and this team and whatever happens happens. I think that AFC game could be closer than people think, too.
  23. If guys are going to play roulette with the ice this winter, it would probably be money well spent to invest in a survival suit. Most Captains on the Niagara wear them. They have flotation in them, and are insulated to buy time against hypothermia should you find yourself in the water. It can happen in the blink of an eye. In the late 70's I watched a guy chase his dog across safe ice on Braddocks out on to dangerous ice--thankfully it was shallow-and both were saved.
  24. Hey Stan, So the niners are your team? Whats the feeling of the niners about a sloppy field, help or hurt your team? Also, what was the deal between Harbaugh and Schwartz? At the end of the niners/Lions game, Harbaugh dissed the lions coach. Was this something from the past or something that went on in the game? I know years ago Harbaugh and Kelly would get into it.
