The very first versions of this came from the Oak in the 80's. I believe that original pattern was first tried on the Pirate spoons by the late Joe Reifer. Today, the pattern is readily available on all the Dreamweaver spoons including the DW, SS, and Mag.

Quality Mono Line Suggestions
Capt Vince Pierleoni replied to crw4374's topic in Tackle and Techniques
The drag is the best I've ever used on a spinning reel. It does have however, have very fine adjustment. We are landing very large trout(up to 17lbs) on 8lb line routinely. Also, when they "store spool" them the whole thing could be wound on twisted if they didn't do it right. On a right handed reel, the proper way with a spinning reel is to lay the spool on it's side on the floor or a table and have the line come off the opposite rotation as the reel. Your reel should turn clockwise, thus the line should come off the plastic spool counter-clockwise to avoid twist. -
Thanks guys for the kind words. See everyone thurs night at the "State of the Lake".

spring browns
Capt Vince Pierleoni replied to bob 13's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
Yes Tony. Typically it gets started a bit earlier from Sodus to the Oak. We can be delayed because of the ice out situation from Lake Erie/Niagara river. Going good by mid April in Niagara county, a couple weeks sooner to the east. -
Hope it was a good one!

Quality Mono Line Suggestions
Capt Vince Pierleoni replied to crw4374's topic in Tackle and Techniques
His info is all good. Just to add, when winter fishing specifically, I keep the spinning outfits slightly less capacity as all quality line will tend to "jump off" the spool in very cold temps. Configuration of the spool lip and bail can make a difference too. The Okuma trios have been the best for us in the winter. -
Thank you for the kind words Trannyman, glad it was worth the drive for you. The whole weekend was a blur and intense, but what a great mix of people both days. Definitely a great way to bring people together around the fishery from both sides of the pond. Kudos to LOTSA for all their dedicated hard work both days. Once again, thank you to Dreamweaver, ATOMIK, Cajun line, Cannon, and Mustad for coming through with some goodies for Saturdays door bags.

Pro-Am dates
Capt Vince Pierleoni replied to lundrs's topic in Tournament Talk, Shows, Events & Seminars
These are the Pro--Am dates for 2011: NIAGARA June 3-5, ORLEANS June 10-12, OSWEGO July 8--10, WAYNE(Grand Finally) July 15--17. See you all there if not before. -
It sure is a Steelie, Paul. You won't see a Summer Coho that lean on Ontario! Beautiful fish above guys. Big, fat smelt already in the Niagara so look for more of the same this season. Wanna get cranked up for the upcoming season? Come to the LOTSA event in Lockport Sunday Feb 27th. Tons of new and used tackle on sale, and Paul will probably have some of his wicked beautiful skin mounts on display!

Cograts Kevin! From the first time I heard the format, I was very confident you would get a full field. Now, the next step is securing the dredging equipment from your contacts there in Wilson. After this comes off this season you will need to dredge a larger harbor for all the boats that will want in next year! What ya think, 100 boats? Looking forward to bigger and better things from all the events on the Greatest of Lakes. The players will do their part, and SHOW UP!

Just got home from the Niagara County fishery advisory board mtg. 2 DEC reps who hold high positions were the guests. When expressing their frustration with the budgetary constraints of NYS, they emphatically expressed how important a great turnout at the "state of the lake" meetings are. They stressed that poorly attended meetings of this type send a message to State government that this fishery is "no big deal." Please try to make these meetings, and get others to do so.

Rapala F9 vs Thunderstick Jr
Capt Vince Pierleoni replied to RodBuster's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Go with what you have confidence in, but I don't know any early spring troller that doesn't have plenty of both. -
Sealine X50 vs. Saltist 50 looking for opinions.
Capt Vince Pierleoni replied to chowder's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Chowder, check out the Okuma CLARIONS. The 55 size is 6.2/ 1 ! They completely sold out of them last season(Michigan horded them up), but they are telling me they have a bigger supply this year. They are great for all core applications and coppers up to 400'. -
Sorry for this loss. You are so right, the list keeps growing.

Passing of Tom Jolliff, NYSDEC Fishery Biologist
Capt Vince Pierleoni replied to Jolly 1's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I had the pleasure of getting to know Tom back in the early 90's when a few of us fought tooth and nail to prevent even deeper Chinook stocking cuts than what finally occured. His knowledge and dedication lead to an extensive document which he prepared for us to assist us in our fight. He provided the science behind our on the water observations, both of which dispelled everything we were being told. I developed the deepest respect for him, as he had to speak out against former colleagues knowing in his heart that Pacific Salmon in great numbers were the solution and not the problem. Jolly I and Jolly II, I am very sorry for your loss. He was a great man. -
Thanks for posting Tom. These are very important to attend. In this era, all State expenditures are extremely scrutinized. It sends a clear message as to the importance of these meetings, and the fishery overall, if they are well attended. Try to attend at least the closest one to you. Indifference will kill this fishery faster than Asian carp.

Most of the guys I know that have done that sort of thing, have used Atlantic towers. Pictures and measurements is all they need, as they are familiar with most models. They all have been pleased.

Stan, you definitely live in the most beautiful part of California, and there are Kings there to boot!
