Just to put some of the potential attendees'(who have sent PM's) minds at ease, of course we will remember that not everyone is advanced. We won't leave you behind. Yes, as our fishery is now "mature", and there has been a couple years of these all-day seminars, most of the attendees are advanced. That being said, it will be an "explosion" of knowledge in that room. You will be able to learn from the person to the right or left of you, as well as the presenters. Like all pursuits and some professions, ongoing education is a must to raise your game. Anglers of the Great Lakes can "sharpen up" by attending these clinics and expos, as well as participating in the tournaments around the Lake. Everyone in that room will make you feel welcome if you are a "newbie".

The man asked for some input. If Lowrance learned from their mistakes, thats good news. The original company was innovative, very instrumental in establishing todays freshwater Salmon Tournaments, and had customer service second to none. When it was bought out, that all changed and I'm sure many on here experienced frustration. Great to hear they are back on track.

Don't give up on Raymarine, great stuff in all price ranges. Hearing lots of good stuff about the new generation Hummingbird units but I don't have any personal experience. Sadly, the Lowrance company is no longer what it was.

Once you install a wash down pump, you will never be without one. Most used on Lake Ontario are raw water, meaning they draw the water through a thru-hull valve. Use a quality one with a petcock that can be closed. As for pumps, install a switch in the 12 volt power lead, and go quality and one with a higher gph(gallon per hour). Some names are Flo-jet and Jabsco. Find some guys on here that are near you so you can look at theirs before you do an install, or have it done by a reputable guy. This is a common area for accidental sinkings. Go top shelf on your caulk with that thru-hull. 3m 5200 is a popular choice.

I have been contacted by the organizers of the clinic and asked to throw this out there. Although we have a general guideline that we will follow, we want to hear some requests from attendees as to desired topics. What are some specifics from registered and soon- to-be registered attendees that you would like to see covered? This will be different, allowing the attendees some input ahead of time. One request we have heard more than once from LOTSA members is "Rough water adjustments". This will be covered and there will be plenty of opportunity for questions. Lets hear some other requests.

Thanks guys. Lets not forget about this. The proponents are going about their business like the big "pay day" is coming. Then, when they are rusted and broken down, they will be on to the next subsidized disaster to fill their pockets. Imagine wanting to swing back through the active fish, but having to make a THREE MILE swing around the monstrosities in order to comply with the "safety zone"?!!! A very real possibility.

Gambler is right on. We catch them throughout the winter on the Niagara in 33 degree water. They are a completely different fish, they take line and just do not want to quit. Congrats on your ice fishing surprise!

From everything I have been able to find out, they are staying with the annual weekends. That would mean, June 4&5 for Niagara, June 11&12 for Orleans, July 9&10 for Oswego, July 16&17 Sodus.

Tuning trolling spoons is "old school". Most of todays popular and effective spoons like Dreamweaver and NK come already finely tuned. They work well with a variety of approaches and trolling speeds. They can however, get out of tune by being bent by fish or cockpit chaos. Most of the time you can reshape them by placing your thumb inside the "cup", and bending it with the other hand. Although it may never be the same as "factory", there are countless stories out there about the randomly bent spoon that produces the best. Tuning become popular in the 70's and 80's on the Great Lakes(and many years prior on the finger lakes) with spoons like Suttons, Millers, Northport Nailers, and Southport Slammers. These spoons are easily cupped for slower trolling, and flattened for faster trolling. Lots of trial and error, which enhanced the "game".

50/200 is a very common transducer, and as stated earlier, the Fish Hawk is a different frequency and won't interfere.

Thanks Has Been. Happy New Year to all. Yeah, sure is amazing how those skippers are so efficient at getting a big lure deep! They don't want to be skippers long! Then they move into that "sniper" 2 yr old mode, when it seems some days that they are using pliers to release the riggers and rip the divers! I often share with the clients that Steelheads and mid-size Kings will attack us in two different modes, either actively feeding or the second mode of just blasting things to stay sharp and drive us nuts!!!
