Braid for downrigger
antney1 replied to Pj Weber's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
I switched over one rod as a test but did that late in the season and didn't get a chance to use it. Reason being I lost too much equipment from wire breaking due to kinks. I had one charter captain friend of mine tell me that the wire puts out a vibration in the water that attracts fish. He said I'd catch fish on braid but just not as many as wire. As far as the fleas are concerned, a couple slaps on the water and they come off so I don't know how concerned I am about that...... next year we shall see -
2004 Trophy Pro w/4.3 merc....where's the oil filter ?
antney1 replied to antney1's topic in This Old Boat
Yepper, found it !! I had to lay across the engine in order to reach it, apparently arms are to short to reach it from the front. Anyway, purchased a cup wrench and that made easy work of it.... thanks to all who replied -
2004 Trophy Pro w/4.3 merc....where's the oil filter ?
antney1 replied to antney1's topic in This Old Boat
If I'm standing looking at the engine, it's on the right side.... how far back ?? Is it right in the middle or way back by the transom ?? How do you get it out ?? Like I said I almost got my meat hooks stuck looking for it -
I have searched high and low for the oil filter. Took off the dog house, layed on my stomach, almost got my arm stuck. Tried using a mirror and still couldn't find. Can someone please tell me where the flock the oil filter is and how the flock do you get it out !!?? Thanks

Correction..... the drill that I was using was a 1/2" not a 3/8"

Just wanted to report that I did purchase these handles and used them yesterday. They worked great !! The drill that I used was a craftsman 19.2v 3/8 drill. Unfortunately I didn't fire a rod so I brought up both riggers with no problems only once. Not sure how many times you can bring up the riggers before the battery dies. Also I'm using 13lb rigger weights

Ordered today..... will post as soon as I can

Put a phone call in to Screwy Louies, they want 300-350/rigger !! That's seems like alot of dough. Put a call into the guy from the youtube video, he claims his ball in the video is 10lb and alot for his friends use his device on 12-15 lb balls.... for $50 might be worth a try.... still wondering if anyone out there has used these

I believe you can keep more than one steelhead as long as it's over 21", other members correct me if I'm, wrong. The syllabus says "3 in any combination not to include more than 1 rainbow trout (or steelhead) in the tributaries" 1 fish if you're fishing in a tributary, up to 3 fish if you're fishing on the lake ??
-
Gil what did they charge you per rigger ?? thanks

Has anyone seen or used these ?? Any other thoughts to powering up manuals besides buying electric rigger ?? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrXoa8fFzpM

For Sale : USA Chamberlain Releases
antney1 posted a topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Two (2) releases, used only one season. $30 for the pair. Available for pickup in the Mexico area or the Utica/Rome area False releases and small fish that are not detected are the two major problems with downrigger fishing. The Chamberlain release from Northern Strike is designed to eliminate both of these problems with its patented two adjustment design. First, the vertical (rod side) adjustment is unique in that it allows the fisherman to put extra downward pressure on the rod which allows you to load it against the release. This is critical because the instant a fish trips the release , the slack between the rod and the fish is removed much more quickly resulting in much better hook-sets. This gives the fisherman an almost instant hook up. Second, the horizontal (fish side) adjustment is very sensitive and needs only a small adjustment to achieve the precise setting. The Chamberlain release is so sensitive that when properly adjusted it can take only ounces of extra drag (caused by small fish, debris or a strike) to release the line. Features: Verticle & Horizontal Adjustments Exact Setting Every Time Adjustable from 0 ~ 4.5 lbs. Ends False Releases Detects Every Stike Minimizes False releases Small Fish Friendly -

Was on the lake today from 6:30 to 11:30. Ran a 6 rod spread with F/F on the riggers... dispeys and spoons on the wire and a cheater on each rigger. Started in 90 fow trolled out to 180 fow and then back to 150. was marking bait most of the morning, as well as marking fish up and down the column. Only had one rod fire and boated a shaker king. I found a marine surveyor that charged me $200 and that was an inspection of a few boats. The question you have to ask yourself is $200 worth the piece of mind you get. The boat I purchased cost 15k and IMO it was worth every cent to know what I was purchasing was in excellent condition. The big issue is water in the hull, transom ect.. where you have to worry about rot

I have an '04 4.3L mercruiser engine that does the same thing, after you come out of idle you bump bump bump the throttle and nothing. bump bump bump then it takes off there's no in between. I have been told that that's the way it's supposed to be. I so have to adjust my trim up and down and sometimes use trolling bags to get my speed. If you find out otherwise I'd be happy to hear !!

I have a Trophy with an I/O and last year I put her in on 3/17. There were days when I went fishing and had frost on the windshield. I was told as long as the water temp was 40 or above that that would help keep the water from freezing and my boat has a doghouse that insulates the motor as well, didn't have a problem last year
