How would you fish for gar?
Deaf Fisherman replied to tbulhead's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
yes, rope fly is way to go. as I recall, is there someone who wrote about fly-fishing for gar on here? I seem can't find it to support my answer! Maybe someone can chime it in. -
Braddock Bay Pike - what am I doing wrong?
Deaf Fisherman replied to dkalweit's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
I don't know what you did wrong with it. It happens sometimes. However, I almost never basically use any kind of leader for pikes. Big spinner/flukes/popper/live minnows is better tied directly with main line. But spoon and rapala is better off with small swivel to snap on lure from line (no leader). It worked for me well lately. My catch rates seem gaining more better than before. Only two thing for me to target pikes, I left my drag little loose than normal that I put drag pressure on bass fishing. My hand is only play major factor to control the drag to slow it down and let pike run one or two times to worn out. Also, when fish strike, I put hand on spool to ensure my strike is strong enough to embedded the hook into pike's mouth. After that, you are pretty in control on pike's battle. Secondly, pay attention to how you reel motion, slow-fast receive. You want to put your lures just surface from weeds. This is require lot of skills and patience. your evidence will pay off with tons of hits. However, this is not only reason, pay attention to your lure motion if it give more action or not. I found many spoons that refuse give any kind of action if reeled slow.. I found couple of it and worked so great for me! I guess, this probably help you little or not. -
panfisher - yeah, I always used jigs for anything except bass. I must be skunk fisherman being with jigs until now. haha But at least, I can use them all for any species.

One of my friends fish there often. He said bass are not in spawn mode right now even through it is close to be spawn. They caught them on split-shot or those slow fishing presentations. Hope this helps.

I went back to Massachusetts for my internship again. So, I went fishing when I was set up the dock at my backyard. One of my friend told me to try jigs. In which, I really hate them! Never work well when I fish them unless it is another species of fish that I'm targeting after. Anyway, he told me that I am really good with jigs if i tried it. I explained him that I did tried them several years now. Not Single Bass BITE on my jig. I gave them up big time. Anyway, he told me that I am really good with texas-rigged grub presentation. Now, all I had to do fish jig like as I did with texas-rigged grub presentation. Within 15 minutes, 11 largemouth bass was already hooked up and landed them all! All caught was in less 25-30 casts. I was disbelief for while about jigs. After I set up the docks into the water, landed another 15 bass in less an hour. This one is my first bass ever caught on jig. Sorry, no ray k version in this photo! Ah, last bass being caught before sipping those delicious homemade margaritas! I wish I knew how to do it at long time ago! My fishing success would be rise over roof! But for now, I'm not complain about it because I am finally able to understand how jigs works! Thank god that I didn't threw two plano box that was full of jigs away. Look forward what this 2012 summer fishing will bring to me! I'm all prepare for you, fishes!

This is definitely white bass. Because of many horizontal stripes. White Perch only has one horizontal strip but it wasn't color, its blend with own skin color that look like the straight line. Nice Catch!

gotten bored seeing the same monster pike caught in scattered locations by only one photo or couple of it. Don't you get exciting to see couple DIFFERENT pikes that GREW into huge size?! God knows that I am. I think my fish that escaped but caught by someone on photo number 17. But in seriousness, all photos is amazing. So, I found those on under google.com I don't know how many of you guys actually use google. But here is the 20 photos.

You should be happy that I did introduced you to this pond! hahaha. Fishing was unbelievable on this pond. Its seem impossible to be grow that huge in this size of pond. Let along with forge foods for predators nor survive through winter. But Hey, I'm not complain about it because they are stuck in there! I can sneak out of few minutes between class changes or after classes.

Deaf Fisherman replied to Deaf Fisherman's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)

rolmops - oh really? I probably will check it out sometime soon. before, I get back to Boston for another internship. Mortigan - yeah, I am. Nemesis - yes, they actually does in here. But I prefer to released it back so someone can catch it again later. I'm not in this money, only passion. Except if I'm fishing in saltwater. Money comes first.

Deaf Fisherman replied to Deaf Fisherman's topic in Musky, Tiger Musky & Pike (ESOX)
one of my buddy just sent me this. -
No explanations. Photos will say everything. same pike as above. my fishing buddy-girlfriend caught those, but had my help to hold on that rod to battle on first pike at first photo. second pike, she landed it all herself. Will upload more photos after two of my buddy sent me their photos. This is for now.

I was appeared on Leo Roth's article on D&C last sunday. He was talking about my 10.2 pounder Koi that I caught recently. This Koi hit on my texas-rigged white grub like as my snake hit on green grub. They must be loving my texas-rigged presentation method to catch bass. But hey, if this KOI hit it, Snake hit it, and it must be perfect method and timing! So here is the photo. Hey hey! stop drolling around! I saw three of them after I caught one. They are in various spot, one Koi that I caught was in RIT campus. Another two Koi is at somewhere in Rochester area. If you went fishing on shore that long enough to see orange dot swimming around one of those big pond and river. You know they are THERE!! I almost landed second Koi in another pond in Rochester, but hook come loose!!! But I'm not complain because I got one under my belt! What's about YOU!?

Since Pike Opener, been catching those bass along with pikes along with fishing buddy. nize girth but small bass. 3-4pound range 6.14 pounder. (sorry for crappy shot, that's only I could take while fishing alone.) 3 pounder bass. 6 pounder plus. (he is 6'4 and 300 pounds, don't confuse with size of bass!) 4pounder bass.

Yeah, I know! Pretty awesome! Irony is that, I met Fisherman21 at several days ago and become friends. Starting to have fishing buddy and next thing that we know, we are on the D&C newspaper. We didn't know that until Fisherman21 texted me that we are on D&C newspaper. Either way, it was pretty awesome fish that I caught Snake while Fisherman21 caught that crazy-size Bowfin!

Yeah, I think I saw you couple of times, I was fishing in the inlet and outside of inlet. Caught bunch of catfishes at last weekend! They are definitely here now. (look at the photo, you might recognize me) you was sitting at far end, I am highly doubt that catfish are there. Need to wet line in deeper area on edge of shallow water. It have been working for me if you can manage to avoid the sunfish bites. Bunch of northern are making swim into inlet because all of sunfish are cramp into boat loading area right now. I saw couple of big northerns sitting behind the big sunken tree between inlet and boat loading area. I assumed that all of catfishes are behind the northerns. Since it have been working well so far for me.

No, I have been fishing for last two saturdays on this spot. No bullheads yet.. I haven't see anyone catching it either.. Except bunch of sunfishes.. [ Post made via BlackBerry ]

Conesus Inlet - Underwater footage for walleyes
Deaf Fisherman replied to Deaf Fisherman's topic in Walleye
I already talked with one of my friend who let me to take underwater footage, he said his Android can submerge in water for less 15 minutes orwise it will damage it. when it come out of water, it is dry as there was never touch water before. Really Amazing phone. I think I'll buy this phone in the future when my contact ended. -
I just went fishing for bullheads and stuck out. only caught bunch of sunnies. So, we decide to go visit conesus inlet, recorded the video for walleye/pikes swimming around. But only took walleyes shot. since all pikes are in the panic mode right now. Saw one walleye could be NY state record. probably in between 15-18 inch girth and more than 2 footer. Couldn't believe it when saw that walleye hiding side of grass edge on river. until another walleye sneak up on that walleye and that walleye tried to defend the hole for herself. Really cool sight. unfortunately, no photo for it. enjoy the video. Surprisingly, it was from phone. one of friend suggest to use his phone to do this. I couldn't believe how smooth video was after I shot it. Anyway, just learned that water current could press button to end the video shot. so I had to retake couple of time until I got this one right.
-
They are definitely there! They haven't done the spawning yet due to cold temperature in the water lately. The number are down for them at this year however, it is really big size walleyes at right now. probably 4-7 pounders. they was look like weeds in river until look closer view. I'll post video on them soon.

I haven't caught one but wish for one. I saw one person landed sturgeon in Sodus or I-Bay (I forget which one) from 1-2 years ago. They said they estimated it was 50 lber on 2 pound line that supposed to catch perch - ice jigging. They couldn't pull out of ice hole. so they was unhook it and released. It was insane sight that fish face stuck on ice hole!
