Just read your report again and realized I didn't pass you out there because you got off the water at 10am and I didn't get in the water until 11am. I am sure we will see each other out there some time.

Good job! My brother and I went 12-14 we probably passed you while you were out there. We were in the red Polarkraft. My buddy was out early in the morning and by the time we showed up around 11am he had pulled because of the thunderstorms. When we arrived at the launch the rain stopped and the sun came out and turned out to be an awesome day on the water. We stayed until 5pm and had a period between 1-2 where it slowed down so we moved down to the east side of the power plant and got back on the fish. Be out there again this weekend maybe. But will definitely be back out next week when most folks will be at work.

Oh yes.... went to Oswego on Sunday and dropped out of Selkirk yesterday. Both places had good fishing... 12-16 on Sunday and 12-14 yesterday.... biggest one was 10lbs 8 oz and we lost 3 other big ones of equal size due to 10lb leaders. Swapped back to 20lb leaders and didn't lose any yesterday due to broke leaders. Not many boats out yet and very enjoyable fishing on the water.

I don't know if I would risk my boat for some fish.... it hasn't been great out there anyway.... went out Sunday and went 12-16 and again yesterday on 3-15 and we went 12-14 on the browns. And I did listen to advice about running 10lb leaders for browns and lost 3 monsters... I am sticking with my 20lb leaders and getting the fish to the boat. Good luck with you decision... I have an outboard and not too worried about it.

Just wanted to know if on the Cannon 10a downriggers if I can take the 12-18 boom off and replace it with a telescopic boom that goes out to 52 inches? I have a set of Walker's now and I either want to keep them and add the Cannon's and run 4 downriggers this year for the kings... or swap the Walker's out and just keep the Cannon 10a electric ones on. I got a good deal and will be picking them up next week. Thanks for any advice in advance.

I am going to upgrade my downriggers this year from my Walker's to a set of Cannon 10a downriggers but they only have about a one foot maybe 18inch boom on them. Can I buy the telescopic booms that extend out to 52 inches and swap them out? Got hooked on the kings last year and I was thinking about running 4 downriggers with the Cannon's off the side and the Walker's straight off of the stern. Or I might just use the Cannon's and get rid of the Walker's if I can get the extended booms on them. Thanks for any advice in advance.

There were 3 of us on the boat. Was heading to Sodus but decided on the way down to hit Oswego as we were familiar with the launch from duck hunting the last few years. Got to the public launch when it was still dark. Met another fisherman at the launch and he gave us a little update and where to go. Left the harbor and headed towards the power plant and hit one monster on the way there and lost it as it broke our 10 foot mono leader. So much for changing up from my normal setup. No more hits until around 930 and that was a double with the first fish on the boat weighing in at 10lbs 8 oz, great way to start off the season. We ran all little planer boards with the sticks between 50-75ft behind the boards. Most hits were running with the wind at our back and only had a couple running into the wind. Ended up going 12-16 and we lost two more big fish on the 10lb leaders. Needless to say as they broke we strung 20lb leaders back on and were in business. It was one of our hunting buddies first time brown trouut fishing and he caught the biggest fish for the day and is hooked now. Hope to get back out there a couple more times during the week and hit some more fish. No photos today as my phone's camera decided it didn't want to work anymore. Glad we went and glad we didn't listen to the weatherman!!! We kept 2 fish a piece for dinner and released the rest for next time. One fish came on board with a lamprey and 3 or 4 of the fish had lamprey scars on it. Kind of strange as last year we only had one or two lamprey scars for the whold season. ====================

==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Just wondering if anyone is catching any fish between Mexico and the trench in Henderson? I got hooked this year on catching the kings and just as I was getting it all figured out the fish vanished. Labor Day weekend caught 5 kings, two at 18lbs, one at 21lbs, one at 24lbs and my biggest so far was 27lbs 8 oz. The weight was confirmed right inside the cut when the DEC boat was weighing, measuring, and taking scale samples. Any info would be great as I was hoping to keep catching kings though the end of the month. Tight lines and good luck! ====================

It was non-stop with 5 double hook-ups and one triple. Only me and my brother were out and the fishing was unbelieveable. I don't think it mattered what you had in the water the fish were just ripping the lures and the planer boards were going crazy. Been fishing the same area and north to Stoney Creek for the last 4 years and never had a day like this. Always thought that I was doing something wrong. After 4 hours we had 23 for 28 and headed in. My son met me at Wigwam and jumped on the boat and we headed back to the spot again. Got two lines in and dropping the 3rd rod and we had a double right off the bat. Then another double and picked up a single. We fished for an hour and he was ready to go home. Total for the day was 28 for 33 and I was having flashbacks of tuna fishing in San Diego. Can't wait to get back out there this week. No monsters with most of them between 5-8 pounds. Only landed one fish with a lamprey mark on it. All chrome fish and all put up a good fight.
