  1. i bought a set of dual axle from a charter cap . the bases were lose after taking the swivel base apart and loctite up the bolts and snuggling them back up . i got to give them a try out this past weekend . i ran a seth green rods out of them they work out great i like them .
  2. Both of you to avoid Collision or tangling your boards. Once pass each other go back to your fishing. Sent from my XT1609 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. i can't say for lake Ontario what works best . i don't target lakers when i there . on the finger lakes i prefer the 4/0 over the 5/0 . i do run both and have better luck with the 4/0. with Gambler rigs .
  4. Todd i notice the battery pics don't have covers over the battery post . think its one of the coast guard safety checks . if the battery came out of the battery tray being so close to to the aluminum splash well / transom it has the potential of causing a fire

  6. my buddies and I splash their 221 starcraft islander today . last time it was out last year at the lou all in the boat had some running issues . after a little winter TLC happy to say the boat ran perfect today . so we fished 7 to 10 am . the temp was 36 degrees . we set up with two seth green rods with suttons spoons . targeting lakers we found them deep as they seem still wintered up . we did 11 fish with having a triple and a double rest singles . we did drop a couple at the boat getting the fish in with out a net. we consider then caught any ways as we were catch and release , witch was a good thing for the fish we didn't handle them and for us the water and wind was cold . was super great to be out on the boat again and hope winter doesn't show her ugly face again till next January ....
  7. Rome wasn't built in a day. I've had my saber 14 years now. Every year I try and do something new to it. I started off with a set of Big Jon Dipsy rod holders I bought for for $35 off a retiring Charter captain. My second set of Big Jon Dipsy rod holders I bought Here on Lou I think I paid 75 bucks. Recently I just bought a pair of Canon dual axle ratcheting holders . I rather buy good used equality equipment. Then buy a piece of equipment that will fail and you end up buying another set of rod holders that are quality that'll work and hold up to the abuse of what we put them through. 9. i guess you could say there is pros / cons to both systems . a good water fuel separator will take care of water and contaminants in any main tank . i 'm set up with both ,i have a saber and took out the helm side box pedestal seat . i made a large box seat and mounted a swivel / slide seat . witch holds under the seat a 3 and 6 gallon portable tanks . so have plenty of room and not tripping over tanks inside the boat . one reason i wanted to use the main tank to run my kicker is i was going to the gas station very time to fill the portable tank/tanks to go fishing . ( the four stroke is way better than my 2 stroke was on gas but still a pain filling tanks ).. the main tank to the saber is 40 gallons and i could fish 8 trips without even thinking of getting gas with running on the main to where i want to set up and fish on four stroke kicker , having no room for a portable tank in the back of the boat or having to bungee cord it down and hopping it don't fall out of the boat when on your way could end up having no tank when you get to the ramp . ask Sk8man ....
  10. i also was looking at the ck valve to use .i was told that the in line anti-siphon has the potential to still draw air . so i played it safe and went with the shut off valve . Hank was one of the marina mechanics i talk to before doing my install . how about a inline shut vale on the kicker fuel hose outside the transom .any ways i wish you good luck with the upcoming job .
  11. i did this last year . i have a 8 hp tohatsu and a i/o . i used a 3 way valve to stop each motor drawing air from each other .main gas to water separator then to 3 way valve then to each motor . i have a primer bulb to the kicker after the three way valve . ( have read post on lou that can eliminate the 3 way valve with the use of two primer bulbs . i went with the brass 3 way rather than relying on rubber parts ) ..now here how things went the first year with it . kicker ran prefect 3/4 of the season, until the kicker ran out of gas . it took me awhile to figure out why cause it was intermittent . turn out the fuel pump on the 8 hp tohatsu worn out didn't stop working all together but wasn't strong enough to pull from main nor just the 3 gal can. i replace the fuel pump and was back in business. so i got thinking it was to much work for the kicker fuel pump to pull from the main gas tank. so i went to the way i had my 2 stroke set up. ran another fuel to the kicker and used the 3 gal tank to the kicker and finish the season with no problems . i left the 3 way set up as is . i saved the original fuel pump to the tohatsu and order replacement diaphragms to have a spare pump . going to give the main tank a go again . if the fuel pump wears again i done running the kicker off the main fuel tank ...........
  12. first like to say nice job on restoring your boat . looks great . if you still want to see your gauges . look into the Ram mount available . w.rammounts.com
  13. x2... barrett marine is very good . pricey but worth it .
  14. i don't think i seen this before on a boat sure it been done . looks pretty cool no dead batteries for you while boats sites idle
  15. my dog loved the boat. i hook the boat up the night before going the next day he be trying to jump in the truck thinking he was going to left behind . our dog was family to us . yes it more of a task to having him with us.its a pain watching out for his safety and well being but i think it worth it . just don't do what i did . i went out of west port bay. went out in the lake and had a great fishing morning was back in by 11:00 . when i got to the dock my dog yank the leash out my hand and took of down the shore line interrupting all the mamas fishing . son of gun even sold a sunny din't think either one of us was going to make out alive .. i ended up giving up my three kings i keep to make amends with the mamas . got the dog and boat loaded and got the heck out of there ........my bad .

  17. seems like our spring is the worst part of winter LOL if that makes sense .
  18. i believe scent helps the catch rate . i used smelly jelly for a long time . its a must to wash lures after use . i switch to pro cure scents now i like the uv enhance . for the scent on your hands i wash hands with lemon dish soap before i leave home once on the boat i don't like to touch any thing with gas or oil . when time to set up i will put a bit of pro cure on fingers before handling rods or lures . after first catch its all fish scent on hands just wipe with clean rag . what better scent can you use than a real fish only takes a day or two to wear off . i been cleaning fish as we trolling i throw the bait and guts from the fish bellies behind the down riggers and gotten hit while i'm cleaning fish . might be a coincidence but has happen several times . my buddy is a mechanic and wears is wash jeans form work with ground in grease in them . its seems my setup out fishes his most of the time . he won't handle a fish with out a rag between hands and fish for a pic . where i will so yes scent make a difference ...

  20. heard in the news this morning east end of Lake Ontario could reach hurricane force winds and flooding could occur. I for one I've had enough of this type of weather Sent from my XT1609 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  21. its a saber thing , looks like mine when i got the boat . if you lose power rewiring it there is a good size main fuse in the top left under the dash hard to see with wires by the tons if i remember right its a 30 amp power comes from the main plug by motor to the front good luck with the job ...
  22. not missing much this week . weather guy said 40 to 60 mph winds , 10 to 12 foot waves for the big pond . thinking when done there be some nice brown fishing with all the stain water ..
