deans cove , took my neighbor fishing this morning . newbie to trolling also a little afraid of being on the lake . we got to deans at 5:30 got launch and starting setting up in 70 fow . i got out my rig rods out , he looks at me and said what are we fishing for with those rods . i had a big smile . so i showed him how things go, we were in the fish right away .i help with the first fish doing leaders . after we finish with the first one i said its all you now . fishing was hot non stop for the first 3 hours . he did pretty good only threw 1 leader to the fish gods , not bad for a newbie . we called it a day around noon , the heat was kicking in time to go . he had me save a few lakers and a few silvers witch i clean them for him to take home . i had lots of fun watching him fumble with the rods and the fish and spending time chatting . i think he got the itch to go again , i am looking forward to it .
deans cove , wife and I hit the lake around 5:30 am set in 90 fow in front of deans . was using seth green rods and michigan stinger spoons in alewife . green jeans , pink tuxedo easter egg to name a few . we zig sag from 90 to 250 fow working south to sheldrake pt and then back to deans cove and called it a day at 11:30 . silvers and lakers were active all morning long . we keep three silvers for dinner . i seen hook jaw charters boat that is for sale at the launch very nice ride . if i only could hit the lottery lol .
plastic rod holders are not for trout or salmon fishing . i have seen a hard brown hit rip one off the side off the boat . a quality dipsy rod holder like big jon is what you want . i am with sk8man i tether every rod that is in use
you can try a thumper rod down the shute , take a 3 way swivel 1bl weight with a dodger and lure . watch the tip of rod when it starts thumping your speed will be in the ball park .
stick with olcott ideal way better fishing . two riggers and two dipsys will work just fine . run your spoons off the riggers and spin doctors and flies off dipsys . stop at one off the bait shops by the launch they will get a good starting point .
we fished from deans cove today (sunday) was silver action and a few lakers . most of silvers were shorts but did put a few in cooler for dinner . we used michigan stinger spoons in uv pink , blue and orange down 40 and 50 feet over 120 to 150 ft . fished east side and west . the east side seem to be the best for us
to bad a cat owner does not have to be responsible like a dog owner . cats should be license like a dog . owners let them tear up the neighborhood and the law don't care .if cat owners got fine they sing another tune
was going to ontario but with the north wind we decided to fish from deans cove . set up in 100 fow in front of ramp trolled north . we pick up one laker then trolled to east side and made a south troll , we end up about 3 miles south of long point . it was a steady pick of lakers , land locks and one brown . end up with 16 fish for the day . then it was a bumpy ride back to deans cove . [
went from geneva set on east side , the sonar was filled with marks , hit 3 lakers and then it went dead . the fish was there but had lock jaw . bout 2 hours went by and pick up our 4 th . called it a day by 10:30 to beat the boaters coming in
showed up at geneva at 5:00 am no one around got boat ready back down to launch boat notices beer case and beer cans in ramp. pick them up and went to throw away in trash can and knew why the cans and empty case were in the ramp trash can over full sure the wind blew stuff around . my buddy showed up and we were off set up on west side sonar blank hit one laker down by roys in 140 ft . we cross to east side found fish from 130 to 170 fow ended up with 6 lakers and one land lock , we used seth greens and one board , the board had a double jointed rapala the seth green had cow bells and gambler spin & glow and michigan stinger spoons
being a weekend warrior you fish when you can long as you can stay safe. that being said a buddy of mine and i show at the ramp water braking over the harbor wall . i said to friend forget it way to rough , come on he goes , ok you be sorry . we made it out beating boat and us set up 15 mins later i look at friend , you dont look so good . i think you know the rest of the story
