I have 12 Daiwa 47SH reels that where all cleaned and lubed by Tuna's, while in there they added their carbon drag washers. 6 of the reels have 30lb Floroclear, 6 have 20lb Floroclear. A couple are missing a small trim piece but function perfectly. Again these are the SH model (SUPER HI-SPEED). $45 each for 1, 2 or more $40 each. Free Shipping in NY. I rarely check here text me at 585-747-8178.
With the pen rearing going on at many different ports it would seem as though that the attraction towards the East end would be dwindling some, unless that many more fish are pen reared in that part of the lake. Makes sense that if equal pen reared amounts where released at each port that the amount of fish available would be equal, The fish are homing in on their birth water, there is no other reason for them to be attracted to the East end.
I think that your problem here is that IMO you trebles are to small and to "stout". I think the 5/0 Gammy are fine for the single but I promise you will be MUCH happier if you use 2X- 1/0- Gammy trebles. Anybody reading this you are having better success with the singles because of the fact you are using bigger hooks on those rigs. Upgrade the size of your trebles and you will re-think the whole thing again. Also using the higher "X" # makes the hook point fatter thereby reducing penetration potential. Using thinner hooks always helps penetration, this is another reason it appears as though the singles are a better option as everyone uses the standard or 2X versions. Tie your rigs with the 5/0 single and the 2X- 1/0- treble and use Gamakatsu hooks and you will be liking the results. I will agree that unhooking fish with both hooks engaged is tough at times
I like Gamakatsu trebles very VERY sharp. A successful charter captain and tourney fisherman told me, use the trebles, your hope is to pin their mouth closed, cannot breath well with a closed mouth so they fight less.
I have 12 Daiwa 47SH reels in excellent shape, some missing the 47SH badge, all reels just at Tuna's, they cleaned and lubed everything, they also installed their carbon drag system on all.
6 are spooled with 30lb Floroclear
6 are spooled with 20lb Floroclear
I will take $300 for each set of 6.
As for the scales, unless we catch one we believe could win fish of the day and be an overall top 5 we throw everything back to fight another day. Our 21' lber has a clear scar from being snagged by a treble hook years ago, not sure if it was a break off or if somebody netted and released it, but it is proof that they can survive to fight another day.
Yep that is our boat, I saw your post and recognized the name, I am glad you got back up to the big O and had some fun. I am going to be selling some more reels I will have 6 47SH's that just came from Tuna's for a clean lube and carbon drags....
My team and I fished the last 5 mornings out of Wilson NY, we where not expecting great fishing because the water temps seemed low. Well fishing was off the hook, we where threw the 4 man rod rotation the first 2 mornings in less than 20 minutes, we boated at least 30 fish on days 1 and 2, it slowed to the 20's for the rest of the trip. We pounded them on most anything you put down there. But Mt. Dew, Green Double crush, White Green Dots, Dolphin, Green Chrome spinnies with White and Green Glo flies where getting it done, several spoons did good as well. Probably 8-10 Kings a day, a few 17's and 18's. We put 2 Lakers on the board a 21 and change and an 18 and change, we released tons of lakers 15-18, We killed it and had fun doing it, we did lose a BIG king, we saw it on the surface, it was over 20, but it was not to be, also broke off a good king on on a deep diving Yozuri off a planer board, we tried the new super hi speed Okuma's as wire reels and they are awesome getting more for rigger rods. Wilson is hot, get out there soon if you can, my advice is to not start to close we never fished less than 85 FOW, caught the biggest Laker 121 ft down over 154 FOW.
