The EZ Steer option is probably the easiest way to go. I have the older Raymarine SPX-5 autopilot with the helm drive to control the main motor, and the EZ steer to connect the kicker. I like the EZ Steer, sometimes I have to adjust the rod to make sure that when the main motor is straight the kicker is also steering straight. Other than that have not had too many issues. The Raymarine on the other hand.... I am not a big fan of that unfortunately.

I recently replaced my spark plugs and noticed that the rear lower cowl bracket was mostly missing, only about 1/3 was left and the rest was gone. All three mounting bolts had sheared pieces of the bracket left under them. I bought a replacement on eBay figuring I could replace this myself. When I removed the lower cowling I found that the front cowl bracket had also sheared in half. Does anyone know what could have caused both of these brackets to break like this? I have never had a major incident with this boat or motor. When I tried to remove the bracket mounting bolts for the rear bracket I found that the bolts are too long to fully remove from the motor. It appears as though the entire powerhead will need to be removed just to replace these brackets? Is this correct? Does anyone have anyone near Rochester they would recommend for this work? thanks

Yes!!! This!!! And do a do a "dry run" of how you are going to install it before applying the sealant. I thought I had a good game plan but after I applied all the goop and installed the transducer into the hole, I realized the wrench I had planned to used to tighten down the nut did not not exactly fit into the bilge area like I had hoped. That left me scrambling to come up with a plan B while the clock was ticking... not fun....

I was running the HST-DSFBL 50/200KHz transom mount. After a few years the returns started getting worse and worse and I was loosing bottom while on plane and not marking fish as well as I though I should be. The thru-hull gets a much better return.

I have been out a handful of times this year and I am very satisfied with the B60. On plane I use 200KHz and track the bottom with no problems. When trolling I switch to 50KHz and I am getting very good returns. I have yet to mark large bait pods while on plane, but I think this is mostly because there has not been much bait around the last few times I have been out fishing (been about 3 weeks since I was out last) I look forward to seeing if I can mark bait while on plane now that I am reading reports of people seeing a lot around.

Started late, around 10:00AM. Lake was pretty flat with lots of boats out in front. Set up in about 70' of water with a mix of 2 riggers, 2 divers and 2 short lead cores with 2 Spin Dr's & flies and the rest were spoons. Was not expecting much based on the few reports that were out there. Caught 1 small steelhead in about 90' of water on a 3 color and Stinger spoon. Second fish was a fat laker close to bottom in around 110' of water with a Live Wire Spin Dr and fly. After resetting the same line about 85' down it fires again. I gave the rod to my father in law and we thought it was another Laker, until it got close enough and we saw all silver. She decided to start putting up a fight at the back of the boat. Took a couple of tries to net her but we finally hauled a nice unexpected King on board. It had a pretty red belly like it was hugging the bottom. I had made a contraption with a pair of fish grippers, a 5lb ball, and some heavy line to attached the fish to and revive them over the side of the boat. Well, when I went to use it on the Laker, I hooked it up, lowered her in the water and didn't have the other end of the line tied off good. So, when I turned around to hose of the deck, I just managed to catch of glimpse of the Laker, my grippers with a 5lb ball, and about 15' of orange para-cord heading down to the bottom.... The King was released healthy and shot right back down. We were off the water by 12:30.

I did get it installed earlier this spring, but I have only been out for a quick shake down trip in shallow water so I cant say much about its performance just yet.

Check out Panther Marine Products, they make a ton of kicker motor mounts.

I bought an Airmar B60 thru-hull this winter and I am about to cut a hole and install it as soon as the weather is nice enough. Cant necessarily recommend this as I have not used it yet, but I am very excited for the thru-hull versus the transom mount. I felt like I just never could really get as nice of a picture with the transom mount, especially when on plane.

He does have a website as well, hope this helps. https://spooncrankbox.com/

Keep in mind that bass season does not open until the third Saturday in June. In Jefferson county you are not allowed to target bass outside of the season, even if you are practicing catch and release. If you are up there for opening weekend it will be busy!! Every year there are more and more local derbies and local bass clubs having tournaments. Bass are usually still in the shallows with many still on beds. Other than that I don't know Chaumont bay so I cant give you any particular details.

They can be run on the copper, lead core, or on the leader.
-
Divers are not run off copper. Check out adding a Michigan Stinger Dive Bomb or Torpedo Diver weight to the leader to get the 300' copper down deeper.

I think I am ready to pull the trigger on getting a thru-hull transducer. I have never felt like ever got a great sonar picture from my transom mounted unit, even when it was new. I dont think I have ever been able to mark fish or bait while on plane. Any recommendations on thru-hull units? I have a Lowrance HDS-9 GEN3 unit. I was thinking the Airmar B60 is the way to go? Also, this year was the first year I have ever kept my boat in a slip, I have always trailered it until this year. The amount of algae and lime/calcium build up on the hull when I pulled the boat was unbelievable. Even the lower unit was covered in lime/calcium deposits. Will the same build-up happen on a thru-hull transducer? I am concerned this may be a problem? Thanks for any info.

Sold / Closed Trailer Tires ST175/80 D13
EKoselny posted a topic in Classifieds - Buy, Sell, Trade or Rent
Carlisle Sport Trail ST175/80 D13 trailer tires. I have had these tires for about 7-8 years. They came on a new trailer that I bought for a 18' boat but I swapped them out for a larger size tire. They have at most a couple hundred miles of use. They have been in my garage ever since I took them off the trailer. $75 for the pair. Located in Greece NY. -
Mine does the same thing, it makes the steering wheel very hard to turn. I talked to Raymarine tech support last year and tried to send it back for repair, but they wanted payment up front just to look at it, and there is no guarantee they could do anything to fix it. I pulled the drive unit off the boat and took it home and opened it up to see if there was anything obvious that was causing it to be so hard to turn. Unfortunately I did not find anything that looked out of place. I lubed everything inside and put it back on the boat this year but unfortunately it is still the same. Very annoying, but I also don't want to go without an autopilot. I would love to know if someone has a fix for this.

Use the MAPS tab above, it has pretty good detail of that area. I fish out of Henderson for opening weekend of bass fishing every year. We stay at Henchen's marina in the harbor. I have never stayed on Association Island, but as a whole the are is very nice. The Henderson Harbor boat launch is a nice launch and its free with lots of parking. Sackets Harbor is a great place to go. The Bassmaster Elite series just fished out of the St Lawrence a couple weeks ago. If the weather is nice you can get to most of the places where the pros fished.

I loved the live coverage, but wished the cell reception could have been a little better for the boats out in the lake. That final day looked like a hell of a bumpy day on the lake, I am sure it was a wet ride back to weigh in!!

Association Shoal is a long narrow shoal just off Association island on the lake side, and is a great place to fish for smallies. That time of year the high banks are usually pretty good a well. If you are only up there for a couple of days you always run the risk of not being able to fish the lake side at all if you get bad wind both days. There are some areas on the bay side that hold fish but probably not as productive as the lake side.

Adding another line? Dipsy the way to go?
EKoselny replied to Garyf's topic in Tackle and Techniques
Make sure you have a decent rod holder for the diver rods too. That looks like a nice boat so I am sure it has a nice rod holder set-up. Divers pull hard so make sure the rod holder is built for it. I have been running a mag sized slide diver on one of my wire diver rods and like that one a lot as well. -
