  1. In this weeks episode of Lindners Fishing Edge they were using them to catch browns in Lake Superior. Looked like they worked pretty well.
  2. I just installed the SPX-5R last summer with the wheel drive unit. So far so good. The wheel drive is a little loud, but if you dial down the response sensitivity so that its not constantly reacting back and forth then its not too bad.
  3. I just installed the Raymarine SPX-5R last summer and the only downside I can see at this point is the noise from the helm drive unit. If you installed a hydraulic unit I don't think you would have the noise issue. Either way I love the autopilot and the noise is a very small minor nuisance to put up with.
  4. Do these retro kits have the same style plugs as the ones on the old Mag10's? Can I buy just the motor side replacement and still plug it into the existing battery side plug that is already installed. Or are the plugs a newer style which means I would have to buy both ends? Thanks,
  5. Thanks for the replies. They are dried and cracked pretty bad so repairing them really isn't an option. I will look into trying to do something with an outdoor extension cord, but it looks like I might just have to suck it up and pay the money. That is what fishing is all about right......
  6. This fall I noticed that the power cables on my Cannon Mag10's were very badly dried and cracked exposing the wires in several spots. I cant find a replacement for the older style cables anywhere online, and replacing them with the newer style cables looks pretty costly. Anyone have any ideas for a replacement cable that isn't too expensive or any other recommendations for replacing the cables. Thanks, Eric
  7. This might be a dumb question, but what do the smaller numbers next to the depth readings mean?
  8. It only took a couple of hours to install the SPX-5R. It really is pretty simple. Hardest part for me was finding some room to mount the course computer. I wound up buying a Navpod to mount the P70R control head because I had no dashboard space to install it. That took another couple hours to cut out and drill all the holes. To connect the HDS7 to the SPX-5R you just connect the 4 wires labeled RS-232 (in the same blue plug as the power) to the NMEA 0183 terminals on the course computer. One other thing I learned that wasn't quite clear in the instructions is that you cant wire the P70R directly to the course computer. You have to hook up both the course computer and the P70R to the SeaTalk 5 connecter block, and then plug in the blue plugs to any unused terminals on the 5 connector block. Also the course computer does not supply 12VDC power out on the SeaTalk cable, so you have to use the SeaTalk power cable and plug that into one of the terminals on the 5 connector block. I dont know if this all makes sense or not, feel free to contact me if you need any info.
  9. Your SPX-5R should be able to talk to any GPS that has the same communication language that the SPX has (NMEA0183, NMEA2000, SeaTalk ng...). It doesn't have to be Raymarine or Lowrance.
  10. Hooking up your SPX-5R to your GPS will enable it to use the pattern modes (circle, U-turn, zig-zag, ect.). I hooked mine up to my HDS-7 with NMEA-0183 which is built into the power cable. It was pretty easy once I figured out what needed to go where.
  11. I have been running them with some good success this year. I run them behind 11" flashers with a three fly teaser rig, but I have also put them behind an 8" Spin Dr with the same teaser rig. I usually pack them with tuna in oil, but I was thinking about trying some sardines in oil as well. I rig mine with a bead chain and a siwash hook. Last weekend I lost two screamers on the line and both times I reeled in the bait and found the bead chain intact and the siwash hook was gone. Now I am using 5/0 hooks to try to keep them on.
  12. Try this site, its pretty cool. The latitude and longitude coordinates are shown in the lower left corner so you can tell which lines are the ones you're looking for. http://marine.geogarage.com/routes
  13. Trouthunter, sent you a PM.
  14. Just pulled one off my boat and replaced with the SPX-5R. The unit worked, just could not keep a straight course to save its life!! Where are you located? I am in Rochester.
  15. Does anyone have any recommendations for an outboard motor lock? I just bought a new kicker motor for the new boat I bought at the end of last summer. The guy I bought the boat from had the kicker motor stolen, so I want to try to find a good lock for the new motor. Thanks for any info!!
  16. I better bring more money to the LOTSA show!!!!!
  17. Has any one ever used a Powerwinch brand electric winch?? I am looking into the RC23 for a 21' walk around boat. http://www.powerwinch.com/powerwinch/controller?action=product&c=9&p=2 I like the wireless remote control and the light on the unit. Thanks for any feedback.
  18. At last years LOTSA show the guy from Northern King said to get size 6 rings for the NK28's they were selling.
  19. Gregg, did you ever figure anything out to fix this problem? I recently bought a boat with Lowrance unit that does the same exact thing. I suspect that I need a new transducer, but I just wanted to check to see if anything else fixed this problem in your situation. Thanks, Eric
  20. Fished Henderson Harbor opening weekend and we hammered the smallies. There were lots of them and they are BIG!! The goby diet must be working pretty well. Top 5 in the derby were all 5lbs and better.
  21. I am pretty sure Gander Mt had a bunch of them last time I was in there.
  22. I use the following link to check wind and wave data. Use the map and click on the lake bouy to get the real time wave height. http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=rprn6 I also check out these web cams to see what lake looks like before I head out. http://www.lakevision.com/camera_14.htm http://web.live.weatherbug.com/LiveCame ...
