  1. If you are running braid backer of 30 lb, likely fits about 75 yds...here is what I do... wrap spool in duct tape, I use 50LB braid and put a handful of wraps (maybe 20ft), albright braid to wire, reel a few times of wire, one thin wrap of duct over wire where it hits spool as a sort of breaker are if I ever got into the spool that deep, then the rest of my 1000' wire. It's close enough to full that I don't worry I can fit another 50 yds of braid. I have been out 800' on a fish a couple times but with the sizes of kings now, hard to believe a risk being spooled if you know what you are doing..... unless maybe into mid 30lb fish. Just me as I rather not have that wire on the brim of the spool edge and get loose/wrapped in spool gears on the water.... speaking from experience By the way, for a mid-price between a Tekota/Fathom/Saltiga vs low end reels, they are a huge step up over a coldwater/convector etc.... if you own 15-20 outfits, saves a few bucks from the top line reels and they are more than sufficient in the 4+ years running them. And I also fish squall 20's with 65lb braid for 40-50 lb stripers in late fall in the Chesapeake Bay as well... 20's more than handle those size fish if that tells you anything about the drag and durability.
  2. I have had some terrific mid-summer bites between 5pm-9pm as I increased the frequency I fished late. Here are notes I keep for myself…. I have done best over 200-300 early in the evening and moved in as time went, normally finishing the night over 150’, mostly mature kings, suspended fish in the top 100’, bright to start while I added glow into the spread after 6:00 pm., mix of spoons/flashers, kept one high red spoon as I have taken some large steelies during those times, occasional jumbo brownie late as I get shallower. July is when I fish calm evenings. Have fished June evenings with limited success…. Those are my notes…. I experience either a wide open bite or a grind for 3-5 fish. That time of day is 5-6 hours after the mid-day bite… kings like to eat.
  3. Sorry, live out of state and not really interested in shipping since it's 4' booms. I forgot to take down ad.
  4. Most eels I have seen fishing the Oak this year. Lots of kings with bruiser eels that wouldn't let go this year. Sent many back to the lake in pieces.
  5. someone can comment on flasher/fly/meat but to give you a few spoons Dreamweaver, Moonshine, Stinger, Warrior Kings - Black/Green, White/Glo, Silver/Gold... many spoons in those color combinations that work. Vary sizes based on time of year... Carbon 14 (and variations), NBK, Green Jeans, Green Slice, Seasick, Lazer Spook, Rodfather, Green Menace, Oscar, Bad Toad, Shelly Snack, Spearmint, Chicken Wing to name a few. See common color theme? Steel - brights high in water column in early season (red, orange, yellow, green). Same as kings when they are deep works just downsized slightly but they hit mags as well. Really once you find the location with them, circle back through as they are often in pods near the temp breaks. There are many threads to review and just look for common mentions in peoples reports if you search old threads
  6. location on lake would help due to species distribution and seasonal patterns
  7. I run what Zinger runs.... #5 Chinook as low and #4 Chinook as high.
  8. A whole lot better eating though... grilled, fried, baked, or par-boiled and turned into a "crab cake" style fish cake. Almost impossible to ruin a rockfish.
  9. 10 reg sized spoons.... 4 stingers, 3 Yeck, a Warrior, and 2 Dreamweaver SS $30 shipped to you via paypal. PM if interested
  10. 7 Raider and 3 NK 28 spoons. $30 shipped to you via paypal. PM if interested
