  1. It's OK to let it out Capt Carl. You don't have to hold back.
  2. Another tough one for our last weekend at the Oak for this year. We seemed to have another Lake O noob each trip this year, but this time we were honored to take out an Oak veteran - Jack Rossman of the Agitator. Jack had some health issues earlier in the year and did not get his boat in the water this year. It was a real pleasure to have him on the boat for our last trips of the year. After fishing inside for a little with no results, we ventured into Jack's favorite waters and hit the 34 line Friday and Saturday where the guys pulled in 12 steelhead on Friday. We did not get as many on Saturday - our bite shut down early and we had three steel and one two-year-old king and a couple of drops early and then nothing before the building seas sent us back to the harbor at noon. The bite was mostly spoons and the hot one was orange crush. Other bright colors worked as well. We did have a few bites on a white spinnie with Mt Dew tape and a white fly and on a chrome spinnie with green tape and a green fly, both out 220 on a 3 setting. Li'l Bit is home now and I will be making some minor modificatiions to the track system to get her ready for the fall striper season on the Chesapeake, as well as changing out the tackle. We will be anxiously awaiting our return next summer to the Oak for what has come to be a fun filled time of year for the whole crew.
  3. Congrats on the title. Thanks for the honk Sunday pm. We had found a small pod of browns and were doing circles trying to catch something, anything.
  4. This was by far our toughest weekend of the season. Had a granddaughter up for her first experience on Lake O and she did manage a 26 lb king on a white crush spinny with a white glow fly with a little purple in it out 180. The only other fish on Saturday were a steelhead and a small king released in the back of the boat. Sunday wasn't any better and the only fish caught were a mid teens king caught in 65' of water on a Finger Lakes Evil Twin down 60' and a couple of browns in 35' of water on the same spoon just off bottom Plan to be back for one more try this weekend before hauling the green Sportcraft home for the fall striper season on the Chesapeake. 7. Depends a lot on currents. Sometimes the currents are pulling a corner rigger to the center so I may pull a corner. I like to keep the center of the boat clear for landing a fish. After all, I'm the idiot net man who gets all the blame if we lose a fish at the back of the boat. I also may pull a wire if it looks like it may get crossed. If we get hit while setting lines - and that has happened a lot this year - we usually stop setting on the corners until landing or losing the fish on. We will still set our out-downs and our divers if the currents are ok.
  8. Should have said all fish were in about 120' of water just a little east. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  9. Back at it with another group of Lakr O rookies. Christie pulled in this 16 lb king with a hammer time spinny pulling a green glow fly out 240. Then Josh caught thus 24 lb king on meat off our probe rigger at 100. Then we doubled on Tim's 19 lb king off the same meat rig and Josh's 12 lb coho on a mupped up flounder pounder at 80. Skies darkened and we got off the lake just before the thunderstorm. Good morning. Be backs at it tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  10. I really like the Chamberlain's. you can really crank the line down tight and they will release on even the small fish. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  11. How about the "Because I booked with the Yank I now own a boat club"?

  14. Started the day inside in 150' of water and had four early screamers that pulled hooks. Had our coated rigger wire replaced so we knew we had 63 degrees down to 120'. Picked up and ran out to 350' of water and put out our program and had our first fish on a meat rig before the second rod was set running over a nice temperature break from mid 60s to 51. We continued working the thermal break and picking up fish each time we circled thru over the next several hours. Ended the day with five fish over 20 and we caught them anywhere from 65' to 115'. Meat and magnum flounder pounder were our best lures. Back to SC PA for two days work and back to the Oak on Wednesday. 15. We have it another try without our subtroll again today but we did have a great bunch of kids along. 12 year old Mikayla fought a 22 pounder all the way to the boat. Dylan had the heaviest fish at 23 pounds. Sara had the longest fish at just under 40" and also at 22 pounds. All the fish were on king of sting or a hammer time spinny with a white hammer glow fly in150' of water. 16. We caught three browns in 150' of water today out of the oak looking for kings. Yankee is right about things being messed up after that NW wind. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  17. Pretty lumpy and we didn't have a functioning probe but we went out this morning anyway. We had a couple of hits on a king of sting at 115' and we pulled in one fish on a hammer time spinny with a white hammer fly out 280. 18. Don't tell my grandson. He already thinks I don't know how to get a fish in the boat.
  19. I should also admit that the best fish of the day was lost right at the back of the boat after an epic battle by my grandson when the net man (me) wrapped the spinny in the net eventually catching the hook and letting the fish slowly swim away while all looked at the lowly net man (me) with disgust. 20. Caught several nice fish on this spoon yesterday in 350-450 ft of water from 9 am to noon NW of Point Breeze. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  21. Back home in south PA for ten days. We have two happy boys still talking about their trip. We fished a little on Thursday afternoon and caught a 24" steelhead that was Jonah's first lake O fish. Then we stayed close on Friday due to the electrical activity in the atmosphere. Still manages a small king and a few small steelies. Best day was Saturday and the boys and their grandfathers were all quite happy. 22. First trip of the season and we had a really good day today fishing 350-450 feet of water NW of port. Biggest fish were 16, 18, 20, and 22. All the rod work done by my 13 yo grandson and 15 yo great nephew-his first trip to Lake O. The boys had a blast. And tired arms. Best lures were king of sting at 110 and carbon 14 at 100. Also did well on 42nd spinny with moonshine smitty fly at 220 and hammer time spinny with atomic blue glow hammer fly at 180. 23. Also make sure your grounds are good. If grounded through a grounding buss bar make sure all of those connections are good and tight as well as corrosion free. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United mobile app Age and treachery will always overcome youth and enthusiasm.
  24. Great Report! Hope to be on some of those fish beginning Thursday.
