  1. That's great, and my next size goal. Thought I'd never crack 25 and once I did, that's as big as they get ( for me!). Great fish!
  2. When Northwoods has them in stock, they're usually the cheapest by far. Been that way for a couple seasons...
  3. Nice - I'm retraining now as a machinist. I might attempt a version of this: http://alzenfly.blogspot.com/2010/03/diy-priest.html
  4. Your probe is lying to you. You should give it to me for punishment...
  5. Jim Kennard is a LOU member - "SHIPWRECKWORLD". Search his old posts; he's posted some pretty interesting stuff...
  6. We were taking steelhead this weekend with spoons on 5 colors of leadcore. Of course, we were running everything else as well, hunting for kings.
  7. Wonderbread: http://northwoodsoutlet.net/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1188
  8. Ahhhh - the old d*ck-out ploy.... Very shrewd move.
  9. You remember correctly. It's possible if the hook moves just right for the leader to get trapped where the bends of the hooks meet and break. Some put a drop of epoxy there, some tie their snell so a loop of line runs through that spot, most don't make any change.
  10. That just looks wrong....
  11. There were 46 boats fishing the Sandy Creek Shootout yesterday morning. We were probably one of the boats you had to dodge - what kind of boat are you in? I might have a shot of you...
  12. My first Shootout and a great time. Nice meeting you yesterday and congrats on big fish...
  13. Thank you for a VERY smoothly run tournament and congratulations to both the winners and all the competitors!
  14. It was for us too, fishing off Braddock's Bay. We had steelhead just shredding purple spoons. When the wind kicked up and the temp dropped, our bite disappeared as well.
  15. I was casting for browns last spring off Bear Creek and a couple guys showed up with one that looked like a long walking stick with a screen on top. They stuck the end in the water and could see a few browns schooled up off the mouth, farther than I could see (or cast, for that matter). Interesting tech... I think it was this http://www.shipstore.com/SS/HTML/bot/bot1200.html
  16. Many teams will keep their 4 fish (ours will) but another option would nice. I don't know of anything like Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry that would take a large fish donation.
  17. Had the same last week (but 10 lbs lighter) - came in like a laker, mouth open and corkscrewing. Also revived & released
  18. Not an easy answer - depends on what cell carrier you have, how far you are from the closest cell tower they own & whether there's anything in the way - and the boat's moving. I'd recommend a boat-mounted vhf and 5' antenna first. They're not expensive, are usually more than four times the wattage and vhf is line-of-site; the antenna height is key for getting decent range.
