  1. The selection at Gander varies greatly by location. Call Jon's - see if they'll be around: http://www.littlesalmontackle.com/
  2. That's about what I figured - thanks for the confirmation.
  3. Hypothetical - could you still net that fish legally right at that moment? You're swiping with the net as the line breaks and you still manage to get it in the net. Would it have to be released, technically? Could it still be counted as a Derby or Pro Am fish?
  4. ya grouper and scallops yum yum ! wait do i have too scuba dive for scallops or can i just run a pro troll with a fly and get em like i do with all the other shell fish that are always stuck on my hooks Just a mask and snorkel, free for the taking in shallow water - unlike our nasty, bottom-hugging zebras. I see you often at Sandy, headed out as we're launching the boat. I'll give you a yell next time.
  5. See lots of people moving up or down each season - 14 to 16ft, 18 to 20, 21 to 24 and a big jump to 10 meter. A handheld should still pick up NOAA and reach the Coast Guard since they have the highest receiving antenna. Get the more expensive one - it floats.
  6. Handheld is ok for a backup in a ditch bag but your main radio should be boat-mounted and have at least a 5 foot antenna. VHF transmission is line-of-sight; you might not be able to raise another boat if all you have is a handheld.
  7. Thanks, Dick. Looks like it was roughly a ten pound increase in the average size, over the course of 17 weeks.
  8. Welcome, Claude. I started in a similar fashion last spring - there's so much to learn....
  9. I believe you - you managed to acquire 50 lbs of tackle tape
  10. I've been in tackle shops that have less of a selection. Maybe you'll find someone interested in buying the lot and then breaking them up.
  11. Thanks, Len. I've still got 30 years to work on a trophy room like yours...
  12. They're the "other" aluminum boats, welded plate - make our riveted ones look like tin cans. http://www.blacklabmarine.com/
  13. Three species of salmon in Lake Ontario - coho, chinook and atlantic. Pink salmon are listed as well but I haven't seen any posted. http://www.seagrant.sunysb.edu/glsportf ... io2012.pdf
  14. LOL - Let's see - at 16, I was pier fishing in the old ESLO derby. It only took another 27 years for me to catch my first salmon! Nice work.
  15. "Brake! BRAKE!" Welcome back. It looks amazing...
  16. The two we landed Sunday were naturals as well.
  17. +1 We've got Magda combos for the riggers and planers - 'cuz they were 4 for $180. They work but you definitely get what you pay for. Our dipsies are on a Sealine and a Convector - MUCH better quality.
