  1. I served two years on the board of directors for a small local organization that at the time had about a thousand members. I'll never do it again. It's thankless, time-consuming, not any fun and when you're done, somebody's still whining about something. I don't personally know any of the people involved with the Pro-Am's but I can tell you this how it works - 'cuz people are basically the same. You've got a large group of people with a similar interest - fishing Lake Ontario for trout & salmon (how many - say 3000?). There's a much smaller subset that enjoy competing against each other while fishing (200 - 300?). Out of that group, you've got a few that are willing to put up or shut up - they volunteer their time to organize a competition. How many - 20 bodies? They're just people - they've got opinions, they've got egos, they've got issues. There isn't a master plan - they're just doing the best they can with what they've got. If you don't like something - JOIN them.
  2. Pretty slow - everyone waitng for the lake to set up. Seems like they're deeper but haven't seen that anyone really has them dialed in yet. The weather's been all over the place the last week or so and keeps stirring things up. Keep an eye on the reports and good luck.
  3. That ad was from 1986. You can only find them used now but they do still show up for sale on the various forums. They were copying the popularity of the Northport Nailer which is still in business but seem pretty similar now to everyone else on the market: http://www.northportnailer.com/store/index.php
  4. I have to run Ray's posts through the Babelfish translator program to make sense of the spelling.
  5. That's nicer than most of the apartments I've lived in.
  6. My wife and I walked the trail from Turning Point north to the bridge and back on Saturday. I used to run that whole area 35 years ago when my grandmother lived on the hill (River Heights). We saw the dock area spotted with porches, pavilions and tiki thatch and I wondered - do the fishing boats tend to group together? Looked like a cross between the tailgate section at a NFL game and Margaritaville down there...
  7. Here you go: http://www.laketroutderby.org/2012_current.html http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2012/ ... _firs.html
  8. I saw a post from Motoman earlier and they did exactly that - fished Saturday, went to weigh-in and found their cell wasn't connecting to the network. They hadn't caught much though.
  9. They've been wrong more often than right this season - pretty bad odds.
  10. They're also in all the fundraiser discount coupon books.
  11. Dumb question, sorry. When you start getting into the high-end fish finders, is it normal to want a separate chart plotter for gps, waypoints, etc...? I looked these models up and considering the prices, was surprised to see that they don't include a transducer and they need to be connected to a separate plotter.
  12. You're right - I also have 2 of the old 209s (downrigger back-ups) and was shocked when I saw the lack of quality of the new ones.
  13. Yankee Troller has them listed as a sponsor but I can't find anyone selling that specific product. Maybe they dropped it?
  14. Any fisherman can decide for himself what to keep vs. what to release, within the state regs. A charter captain is running a business, first and foremost - let them.
  15. Found it: http://www.outdoornews.com/May-2012/Sma ... tdoorsmen/
  16. Welcome, Frank. Good people here....
  17. Navionics has map apps for IPhone & IPad. Precision Trolling supposedly has an app being released this month.
  18. I've never heard of a lamprey trying to attach itself to a person swimming or wading. Have you?
