Could be - they're about the same size. Saw one stand up like that on a hunting trip Northwest of Ottawa, took a look around for maybe 30 seconds, then dropped back into the bush and wandered off. Very cool.
Think I'll plan on it for next season as well as taking any observer class that's offered. I've done lots of the reading but need more time on the water.
The only report I see was a tweet from Fishin Magician and he found pretty much the same you did, bait between 20 & 50 fow with a few brown trout bites. He did mention some laker action out around 110 fow.
So jealous
A) at work B) haven't cracked 20 lbs yet
Oh - if you ever find yourself in the neighborhood, this is my favorite spot for fish n chips: http://www.yelp.ie/biz/beshoffs-howth
Assuming it's a good spin doctor/fly combo, I'd experiment with trolling speed and leader length. Keep in mind though, some days, they just want something else (and that I've got more reading under my belt than time on the water).
State record - impressive shark.
I always forget they're up here too. I spent a lot of time fishing in Florida as a kid and always sort of think of it as a southern thing.
