  1. Good practice for me. Forgot to commend the catch - great lunch break.
  2. NOW I've got to have fish for dinner! Thanks, guys.
  3. I've watched the rigging video on the FishDoctor site but I haven't tried them yet. I only own two Walker 107s at this point; maybe I'll grab a pair of the Slides to compare this season.
  4. Never tried walleye fishing but a buddy does a summer charter each year out of Ashtabula. Sounds like fun - and I've heard they're great to eat.
  5. Good question - looks like Warren's Hook Line & Sinker Brown Trout Derby ends this weekend. I think the Wilson Harbor Invitational is close - May 11th & 12th?
  6. I was skimming the dipsy section of Keating & Porter's "Great Lakes Salmon and Trout Fishing" this morning. If I remember correctly, they mentioned mono dipsies for getting down 30 - 40 ft, braid for 30 - 80 and wire 60 to 140. They did make a point though that both braid and wire can be run shallow as well and the harmonics are different. The fish will choose what they like best from day to day.
  7. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

  9. I think most braid users here run 30 to 50lb. The thinner diameter increases the flea issues.

Try the Magic Eraser Snitchols suggests. I've seen that work on more materials than you'd believe...
  11. From last season... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=26711&start=0
  12. I run an old pair of 9' Fenwick Riggerstix with twist guides and have read that they're built from 10 wt fly rod blanks. They're great downrigger poles.
  13. Most guys will send you here for the knot video: http://www.fishdoctorcharters.com/templ ... ctor=video I just used an overhand knot at the reel with a wrap of duct tape under it. I should have said Hello at Gander last week. I was sitting a bit in front of you.
  14. Gotcha - I did misunderstand. Seems like the top choices these days are the Takota/Talora combo (as you mentioned), Okuma Convector or Catalina (30 size) w a Classic Pro GLT or a Daiwa Saltist on a Heartland. Length is a matter of preference as is roller vs. twilly - valid arguements on both sides. Lots of old threads here if you search debating all the choices. Whatever you pick - good luck.
  15. That's true. Guess it'll just depend on how bad the fleas are on a given day.
