  1. It's posted here: http://www.irondequoit.org/images/TownB ... oating.pdf The rest of your quote was ..."in a manner or at a speed that causes a wake... but in no event at a speed exceeding five miles per hour, unless for the purpose of enabling a person engaged in water-skiing to take off or land." There's also an exemption for owners, and their guests. Scuttlebutt says at least one of the town board members is an affected property owner - they're trying to pass a resolution that directly benefits themselves. They scheduled a Public Hearing at the regular Town Board meeting on April 17, 2012 at 7:35 pm. This is the affected area:
  2. Left-handed crescent wrench and a quart of fresh halogen fluid...
  3. Ditto - chained to my computer most of the time. That's why you almost always see me online; it just runs in the background.
  4. One of the many reasons I own a kayak - which I've taken a safety course for.
  5. The friend I fish with (the boat owner) caught the bug the winter of 2010. We did a charter last year on April 30th and for better or for worse, had about the best possible day you can. We caught all six species of trout & salmon that morning with a lone smallmouth thrown in, something like 40 fish by lunch. Been hooked (lol) ever since. He's definitely spent more than I have but I buy gear and help foot the expenses. It's been worth it - I love the time I get to spend hunting and fishing.
  6. If you're a detail person, the Precision Trolling Big Water edition will give you depth charts for everything. Dan Keating's books on trout and salmon fishing the Great Lakes walk you through everything at a beginner level; I found them really helpful to explain all the stuff I'd been reading here. Most guys here run dipsies on wire to get the most verstility on depth but braid will work. It just won't go as deep. The rods you choose to use will need to to be able to handle the strain - Medium Heavy or Heavy action. Shimano TDR, Diawa Heartland and Okuma Classic Pro GLT are all popular choices that don't cost too much. Sounds like the top of the line is a custom Fish Doctor roller rod but I've never seen a price mentioned; just lots of drooling. Take the time to read all the info you can on this site. You have to weed through it a bit but I thought it was worth it.
  7. Seems like most use the length of the rod, say 8 - 10 feet. Are you planning on using wire, superline or mono for your Dipsies? We just set up a pair of wire rods, also using the Walker 107s - just waiting for later in the season so we can use them.
  8. Their intent is to kill the large-scale boat partying that goes on all season in different spots from Durand Eastman Park to Irondequoit Bay. It's gotten pretty wild over the last ten years. I don't think they understand the impact the proposal will have on fishing.
  9. You said it, brother. In the last year, between the two of us we've purchased spoons, flashers, flies, stickbaits, rods, reels, releases, swivels, line, wire, dipsies, divers, planer mast & reels, rod holders, vhf radio, antenna, fm radio/cd player, fish finder, kicker motor and gas tank. Wish we were done...
  10. That's exactly where we were this time last year. We had the boat, two riggers and two inexpensive Okuma Magda combos. We booked a spring and summer charter, did a ton of reading here, read both of Keating's books and asked a ton of basic questions. Oh - and spent a ton of money. Lots and lots of money.
  11. Catch the 7pm trolling lecture at the Gander Mountain in Cicero next Wednesday night. Too much of a haul for me but you're 5 minutes from there. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30880&hilit=gander I'm interested to see what recommendations you get from the guys here too.
  12. I couldn't Now that I've had a chance to use it, I'm thrilled. Very well made and just what I needed to keep me in the boat, not hanging over the well in back.
  13. I'm guessing because it didn't freeze up this year, we're seeing the result of an extra four months of wave action.
  14. It's only about 4 feet between the pierheads, deepest to port if you're headed out. It gets shallow fast to starboard - we hit silt last weekend & had to raise the outboard in an 18ft Starcraft.
  15. I stocked up on Big Game at Ollie's of all places. Got 2 rolls of 30lb, 2 rolls of 20lb & mailed out a pair of Berkley rebates: http://www.fishusa.com/Promotions-Berkley_c.html That should cover leaders and fleas for a least a couple seasons.
  16. Hey, there. Yeah, when we launched the lake was about the max we could handle... and then it got worse and we were two-thirds of the way to Webster Park. Thought Charlie was going to christen his boat bfr we made it back to the bay I wish we all flew LOU flags so I knew who to strike up a conversation with. Get nervous walking up to a stranger and going "Psst. You on LOU?"
  17. Massena? You're practically Canadian! Welcome aboard, Jeff. You've got some really good fishing right there too. Take an ultralight and some spinners over to St. Regis Falls around Memorial Day, after the DEC stocks.
  18. Def see difference between photos & good to know the tail spots can vary. Thanks for the input Tim; I'll get it eventually.
