Welcome to the site. You'll find a few other kayak fisherman here as well - check out the guys trolling in their kayaks off Sandy Creek for salmon last fall: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=27616&p=161438&hilit=kayak#p161438
I had the trigger replaced on mine years ago by the gunsmith at Gander Mountain. I'd stopped by to ask his opinion of the drop-ins vs. having him do some polishing and he had one on hand & gave me a discount. I think it cost $100, installed. Made a huge difference...
Any centerfire is legal in NY but you assume a certain responsibility when you hunt. Use a caliber that will deliver more energy at impact - you want to maximize your possibility of a clean kill.
Google "chemung county pistol permit". Looks like it's possible, just not without a lot of time and what should be unnecessary effort. I got mine in Monroe County and although approval took 5 months, it was just a matter of waiting, impatiently.
We have carp here because they were imported as a popular game fish (and food staple) a hundred years ago. Now we're about the only place that doesn't eat them. Google "carp fishing"...
The air activated ones are great. They take a while to warm up so I open them at the car and stuff them in my pockets for later. They never get too hot to handle but are just right for keeping the frostbite at bay. Brought her home for dinner tonight:
Have a Hurricane at Captain Anderson's for me, my favorite restaurant on the planet. My mother's side of the family are all in Panama City. Congratulations on the first grandkid too...
They did some half-assed bait & shoot with police sharpshooters from 1993 to 2003 while the crazies yelled about darting them with contraceptives instead. I find some mention of a "Town of Irondequoit managed bow hunting program" in 2003 but I can't find details or anything current. I'm a resident - maybe I'll try the town clerk's office. Wouldn't mind filling my freezer locally for a change.
*** found this mention from last year: http://www.irondequoitpost.com/features ... -under-way
Hell, we have the same problem year round with whitetails here in Irondequoit. The herds in Durand-Eastman Park can't be hunted, have no predators and wander the surrounding neighborhoods freely, day and night. Been argued over for years.
