  1. I've been lucky in my life growing up in NW Indiana right on the tip of Lake Michigan. I could going hunting during the rut and literally see 5 to 10 nice adult bucks in one sitting. Pick of the litter pretty much where I hunted growing up. It wasn't unusual for my dad or I to shoot a doe that field dressed ard 175 lbs. every year. Deer are just bigger out there due to the land and amount of crops. Now living in the Southern Tier I don't see as big as bucks or deer but still nice to go out in my woods and know I will see Deer and a chance at a decent buck. Yes, everybody where I live around me has the brown it's down attitude. There is a TON of poaching around my area also, which I think does a number on the bigger bucks that hunters won't see that follow the rules. That is one of the biggest reasons I think I don't see the big big bucks is because they are taken down at night in the summer around me. I know guys like to be hush hush on that stuff I bet it's also one of reasons others don't either. Just my two cents.
  2. I live in the Southern Tier and there is more deer here than you can throw a stick it. To be honest they need to be thinned out where I live. I drive home 30 mins from work and I can literally see 200 hundred plus deer in the fields in the summer. It's crazy the numbers we have. I live around a lot of Amish and they do a good number on them in the summer too and still have crazy amounts running around. Not to mention the bears and coyotes that get their far share of the fawns.
  3. Could be wrong but I don't think he's paying.. Just looking for someone to fish with.
  4. I always here guys say that, but it all depends on weight of down rigger ball and depth for blow back. I use a 12lb torpedo and I can tell you its not 45 degrees when I'm fishing 100 plus ft specially dependent on current. Least for my boat and down riggers/weights. I got a Fish Hawk my 3rd year into fishing Lady O and I can tell you my hook up rate went WAY up.....
  5. With the size of my boat he suggested the 28" size.
  6. If you want to give me ur number I can let you know how I'm doing Oswego at that time so you can make a decision on the run. I'm betting they will be a bit deeper than that wt this weather. I could be wrong though. Hazards: sailboats. Sailboats. Sailboats. Jet skiers. Rec boats if weather is nice. And channel is only 5 mph which took me abit to get use to as I use to come out of Oswego for along time.
  7. I do fish for them in Sodus, but buddies always rent out of Oswego for week so I head there. He is right about the boat traffic in Oswego many many more fisherman in Oswego than Sodus. But you don't have to deal with the sailboats in Oswego like the armada that is always in Sodus. To be honest. Seems like Oswego is better that time of year, but like I said people still catching fish in Sodus and wt the weather this year Sodus probably be better this year at that time.
  8. Thank you. Ordered two today.
  9. I can understand that. I actually have my boat in Sodus bay and will be motoring it over to Oswego for the first week of sept to stay there. I've fished Oswego for a week for the past 5 years and always hear good reports out of Sodus during the same time. It's all subject to change like everything else in life.
  10. Looking to get some. Who makes some goods ones? The old bucket and holes I've been using past few years isn't working that great wt the bigger boat I got.
  11. Why did you stay in Sodus to fish Oswego? Wrights should have slips right in Oswego. Seems like a long run everyday and hard on gas.
  12. Wait. Then the marks for fish at the depths they are at if at angle from the boat are not actually at the depths it shows on the fish finder?
  13. Was Sunday as rough on the lake as sat? Sat was pretty bad but still stuck it out.
  14. Just curious as I have my boat slipped in Sodus for the year(first time there) but at the end of August I will be going to Oswego for a week. Anybody run that in their boat ? How long does it take? Trying to decide to troll over, motor up over, or trailer it over. Any advice/info be great.
  15. Thanks for the info guys.
  16. Thanks for all the advice guys. Some good stuff to think about there.
  17. It seems harder and harder these days to get people to go fishing. Till my son and daughter get abit older I might have to do some solo trips, which I've never done before. What's the best setup? Two downriggers and one dipsey or 2 dipsey's and 1 downrigger?
  18. I'd be start setting up my paddle program then. Spoons will work, but you probably should have some paddles down. Most likely they will out perform my spoon program right about that timeframe.
  19. Awesome. Hopefully it stays nice. Doesn't look like it's going to be a bad day on the lake. Went out Friday ard 6:30 didn't move a rod till noon. Then noon to 1 put 7 in the boat, was odd. Hopefully the rods start moving for you today. Thanks for info.
  20. How's the lake today ? Looking to bring the family up today.
  21. What do you use to reseal it when putting it back together ?
  22. Is that an easy fix? Something I could myself than ?
  23. Yeah. I was thinking maybe water got into it. Was hoping it would dry out and work ok. But nope still acting up.
  24. My Downrigger is acting up, it's has a mind of its own all of a sudden. Goes up or down by itself. Is there Somebody who works on them close to Sodus ? Or anybody have advice on what's wrong. Glad I didn't sell my older ones have a back up.
  25. Looking for 4 Cannon Covers. Will take whatever you have.
