Lake Level - Taughannock Falls State Park - 4/9/17 My buddy took this picture yesterday at Taughannock Falls State Park.. Lake is very high and the docks are underwater. -Pete

All I know is they wanted nothing to do with our jigs on the drop or the retrieve. Not sure what they did want but it wasn't any of the 6 fluke colors I tried or the jigging spoon. If they were lakers, they were full ones. Sent from my iPhone using Lake Ontario United

Launched from Myers around 6:30am and quickly realized that the battery used to start the main motor was dead. I ended up jumping it off of one of the trolling motor batteries with some cables I borrowed from a nice guy at Myers launch and headed to the power plant. We had great screens of bait (maybe too much) - pics below. Not sure what to do when the screen is full of bait/fish but none of them are on the bottom or biting. The answer may be trolling and we did throw a dispy out for a bit around 50FOW, no luck there after making 3 passes through the below screens. I even hooked up the old black and white FF to the transducer on the trolling motor to confirm my main FF wasn't acting up again. Around 9:00am or so we headed for the west side (using the trolling motor as the battery was still too dead to start the main) with the hope the fish were biting over there. First fish came around 10:00am and by 12:00PM the pleasure boaters were out in force and chewing up the lake pretty bad. I hooked up with a brown around 2:00PM and we continued jigging till 4ish when we packed up. We ended up with a total of 5 fish in the boat, 4 lakers and the brown (biggest laker pic below). Lakers were all clean (no recent lamprey wounds) and all were released unharmed. The brown is largest brown I have caught out of Cayuga, ended up weighing in at 8.8lbs on the digital scale. Was happy to catch a brown Jigging, my buddy hooked up with a salmon as well after that but one jump and it was gone. I discovered during the day that the main motor battery was not charging while the motor was running but had enough juice to keep it running after it was going. After we were done and ready to head back to Myers I tried jumping the motor again off the trolling motor battery (borrowing cables from a nice guy at Taughannock) but having used the electric all day, it also did not have enough juice to start the motor. Ended up having to take one of the trolling motor batteries out and start the motor with it directly to get back to Myers. I showed my two year old the brown when I got home, I'm happy she was willing to pet it despite my wife's strong objection . Hopefully she'll want to come out with me and catch one herself in the coming years. Hard day of fishing for the ratio of hours to fish in the boat and it was not a calm day at any point really. Was happy all the fish we landed were good sized though. Waves were rough and wind was gusting pretty hard from the south as soon as we got out there. Good day overall even with battery/motor problems. No idea why the FF pics turn sideways when I upload them, I have tried everything to get them straight but the site keeps turning them. PS. If any of the people I borrowed cables from happen to read this, PM me and I'd be happy to take you out sometime. -Pete

I have also been struggling with them. We went out last week and got nothing but I chalked that up to the Fish Finder issues I have been having (wont see bottom correctly anymore). Glad to hear the bite is on! Thanks for the report

Here's what Cayuga/Myers looked like this morning, we made it to the peer and decided we didn't want to die so we turned around.

I wasn't going to post on this thread but I was also under the impression that pro status was for professionals or at least semi pros. I will happily pay 20$ a year to support the site. This site has always been a great resource for me going on 5 years now. From the question of what fish finder to buy, to how to set it up, to what trolling motor to get, to how to start trolling, to what depth to start looking for the fish, this site is great. It's likely I'd still be "fishing" from a jet boat with an ugly stick (unsuccessfully) if not for the site and its many helpful people who have always been (and continue to be) more than willing to teach me how to better fish Cayuga. Went out jigging yesterday morning, launched at long point around 6:45am and headed north. After two hours of looking for bait in 70+ FOW, I found it in 50. Packed up around 11, all fish were returned unharmed. 3 fish total. There was so much bait the FF was reading it as bottom sometimes, that made seeing your jig hard to do. Best method we found was drop and reel through it. All fish came on Hermit's white 1oz jig head with white fluke, seems they didn't want anything else. Had my cousin with me who had never caught one so that was cool. Biggest was 27" -Pete

My buddy and I went out last night (5/30/16) from 6:00PM - 9:00PM. Tried the power plant and Taughannock, marked very few fish and bait was very scattered. Ended up with a few bites and no fish in the boat. I scouted around for 2 hours in anything from 150 FOW to 50 FOW with no different results or solid marks/bait pods. Was a bit disappointing as hes never caught a laker Jigging but hopefully next time. On a different note we ended up casting for an hour from 8:30 - 9:30pm near north point in the shallow water and marked a ton of bait in 20FOW. I even turned down my fish finder sensitivity because I didn't believe it at first. Not sure what to make of that. -Pete

I use a Field and Stream Tech Spec with 15lb power pro braid (diameter of 4lb mono) tied directly to a 10lb Visaline fluorocarbon leader (8-10ft) I also use white 1oz jig heads from Hermit with a white body most the time, you can buy (the best) jig heads heads from the site below. They have very sharp hooks and are top quality, better than anything I have ever been able to find in a store. You can also buy flukes also at the link below. I use some flukes from the site below and/or zoom flukes, white is always a good color but I have had success with others as well. Green/chartreuse jig heads are also good at times. Ended up with this 8.5lb laker a few weeks ago at the salt plant Jigging, nothing of size since. Was in 80 or so FOW then. Have tried the power plant and some spots on the west side since with no luck. I agree depth is all over the map, one day they'll be in 50 FOW and the next in 150. You'll see a lot on bottom with but getting The big ones to hit has been a challenge. Have killed my fair share of lamprey though this year, they seem to like the small lakers.

I had the same thing happen on a rapala a few weeks ago (when the water was low) and this happen Sunday. Fish was gone and Lure came back with no hook in the middle. Not sure what to do, it was my opinion before these problems that rapala's were made well...

I stopped by Myers launch today to check the water level and debris situation out. Here you go. Water is still down quite far, lots of sticks and such in the launches but did see two trailers so it's doable for the right boat. -Pete
